I’m generally not a fan of the ultra long contracts, but that’s the industry standard these days for the gun players.

At least with LDU we can be pretty confident of a [PLAYERCARD]Clayton Oliver[/PLAYERCARD] type situation not occurring. He’s a quiet lad, but he’s also a solid professional.
Also, given what he went through with the passing of his dad as a young AFL player (not to mention being front and centre at NMFC over the past 5 years) you can bet he’s got the resilience to handle himself in adversity.

Happy he's signed. I never really doubted he would stay based on his comments in the media and in person.
It won't look as big money when someone else signs for 1.7-2m like TDK/Reid and the CBA keeps rising.
This will have a pretty big impact on guys like Colby, GW and Zane I would think.

The fan base it at a crossroads of where we have been so shit for so long some are looking for a savior instead of improvement as a whole.

LDU is a victim of being the most talented player in an otherwise inconsistent team. It's not on Luke to lift the team, it's on the team to lift to his level every week.
I'm rapt for the club and LDU as we still haven't seen his best football imo.

No, I don't buy that. You don't "develop" at 27 (or whatever he was when he left us). He was pretty well developed.
But wasn't well coached and well utilised. Plus was very injury prone.

Lyon is a very good coach. In fact I admit, I have underestimated how good a coach he is.

Not only has he shown that he can adapt to a different game style that he was well known for, but he has also proven that he can adapt to the way AFL football is changing. The game has changed so much over the last 10-15 years, much more so than it has in the previous 50. And very few modern coaches have adapted to that. Huge question marks on Clarko in that regard.

When there were rumors we might be interested in Ross I wasn't keen at all. But in hindsight, I was probably wrong.

Ross isn't doing the gameplan stuff. The assistants come to him with it and he challenges their plan where needed.
He's basically a director of coaching at this point who just oversees everything.
I'm sure he makes some coaching moves and has the final say, but his assistants are having a big impact imo.

To have all of these guys commit to the cause means a lot. You can see how much it means to Larkey.
