Side note: remember when I suggested we look at Darcy Fogarty and everyone was convinced he was not worth it? Good times
Was a good call from you.

The issue with getting him would have been Neale or Henry wouldn't be required and we look committed to them.

But... Fog is better and yeah, would be nice to have.

Look hawthorn have the cap space no doubt to match but they are also overloaded with inside mids and guys like ward and hustwaite dominate but can't get regular games in there. They might just be happy to let worpel go especially if they get Allen.
I can see a world where Worpel gets to us, fills an immediate need
If ask Huswaite the question too

Yep. It wasn't all that long ago that the masses were saying TDK isn't worth a first round pick and was only a minor upgrade on Stanley. I get a fair bit wrong, but those comments perplexed me then, and obviousy more so now. He was always going to be a star if his body held up. Still not worth $1.7M, but a gun all the same.

I don't think they could get rid of Oliver if they tried.

Pert copped a lot of flak for what I think history would remember as the right option at the time
Glenn Bartlett is looking more right every day.

No disrespect to Neale but if it meant we get Fogarty and Neale has to play second fiddle the rest of his career, I think most are doing that deal in a heartbeat.

I dunno man, this contract and player combination is so bad it's unprecedented
It will happen like when Collingwood had to pay part of Grundy contract... Going to be interesting come at end of the year with Oliver and Melbourne..

I'm so glad we dont give our any contracts over 5 years

The other consideration with Harley is that he has had a couple of years in what I think looking from the outside appears to be a poor club culture/system.

That depends on how you look at it though. Glass half empty its bad habits from a poor system. Glass half full its someone that hasn't even scratched the surface of what he can do yet and will improve out of sight in a good system. It depends how you want to analyse it.

The difference with Grundy is while his contract was bad it wasn't astronomically bad like Clayton's is. I don't think Clayton is realistically tradeable.

I don't mind worpel. He's not A grade but as another poster said for free he would definitely fit in our side. I would absolutely kick the tyres on alex Davies too-good ability and isn't having a career unless he gets out of there.

Surely you need to show games played against goals kicked for this to have any relevance. I have no idea what it would do to the stats but needs to be part of the discussion.

Agree, and suddenly things don't look as clear cut regarding the notable forwards drafted that year

Forwards -
Ollie Henry: 75 games, 110 goals, ave 1.5 per game
JUH: 67 games, 103 goals, ave 1.5 per game
Logan Mcdonald: 70 games, 93 goals, ave 1.4 per game
Josh Treacy: 60 games, 85 goals, ave 1.3 per game
Riley Thilthorpe: 58 games, 73 goals, ave 1.3 per game

And here's a few of the midfielders from the same year
Midfielders -
Errol Gulden: 93 games, ave 22.7 disposals, 63 goals, ave 0.7 per game (0 games this year, 27.1 disposals last year)
Archie Perkins: 83 games, ave 13.7 disposals, 50 goals, ave 0.6 per game (18.7 disposals this year)
Max Holmes: 81 games, ave 18.8 disposals, 39 goals, ave 0.5 per game (24.2 disposals this year)

No way Henry is a key forward though. He's only 189cm tall and would never be able to play as the first or second focal point.
All those other players are 6ft'5 and above.

I was trying to work out the right word to use as I agree Henry isn't a KPF, but he is seen as a forward target

Maybe I should change it to notable forwards

Absolutely
There are decent players not getting opportunities who would jump at the chance of getting one with us!

Yeah but Grundy could play and was owed comparatively much less. This is a different level

I think both need to go. They are done at Melbourne. At least get something for them whilst you can. The alternative is they continue to wither away at that club.
(Can’t believe I’m about to say this) Dermie made a good point re the Dees earlier today about the players running the club. I tend to agree with him. Christian Petracca the number one culprit too.

Trac will go …Oliver’s contract will sink them either way I think he will stay

Gawn will be the interesting one as it really does appear he has checked out

Pickett is leaving to Freo

They are in a rebuild they just won’t admit it yet
That occurred to me this morning seeing that locker room footage. A couple years and mentoring roles. Take over for Stanley so he can retire. Do he like the country, or maybe a surf coast cafe? :winkv1:

Like I said his contract will sink them either way even if they have to cover some of his contract if he’s traded

They have done it to themselves

It was a fork in the road moment, similar to when Gaz jnr was offered crazy money to go to GC.

Melb re-signed Oliver at the peak of his value at an amount that was always going to be a problem. They could have let him walk if he could get that contract elsewhere. Instead they tied themselves to him for 7 years at crazy money.

We probably could have done a similar thing with gaz, but chose to let someone else pay him the crazy money. We held our nerve and moved on. It was clearly the right decision, as much as it hurt to see him leave.

Melb weren’t prepared to accept the short term pain of seeing him leave, and it may have sabotaged their club.

Seeing what Tom Atkins did on Thursday night and how impactful it was on the game is further reinforcement for me why we need to go hard at rowel
I still see Clark becoming a player like that in time he just needs the body and experience but yes go hard at Rowell either way.

Sadly I don’t see it. He is just not taking any genuine steps forward yet. He has stalled and it is of some concern.

He will be given every chance to develop, but the signs aren’t great

On a different note, many here are measuring Reid by the wrong measure. Just like Gary Ablett Senior had a huge impact on me and countless others, so will Reid on a new generation of supporters. There will be kids from (weak- or teamless-) football families jumping onto the bandwagon.

This Ganesh idol was made by kids in a migrant family and their parents became gushing Cats Supporters.
