Walshy's on the record as saying he despises Geelong, given he grew up in Ocean Grove (in part).

Wonder if this kind of stuff matters in 2025?

If he would rather go to somewhere he hates than stay at the Blues....sheesh

It’s not utter crap, Ollie is a ball butcher who the opposition want to have the ball. Cripps knows this. Another bust of a first round pick, a winger with good endurance running who we knew at the time of drafting him was a poor user of the ball.

Our issues stem from having Acres on one wing who can’t kick and Hollands on the other who can’t kick, so much so we’ve sent him to the backline so we don’t have two wingers that can’t kick.

We have a full team of players who apart from a handful are ordinary kicks and were known average kicks when we drafted or traded for them.

An indictment on our list management

Cripps himself ain’t exactly a surgeon with foot skills. There’s a fair number of our players who’d have good secondary careers working in a butcher’s shop

Yep, I can understand drafting a winger like Xavier Lindsay with a high pick.

Not so much when the player is not only a poor kick, but regularly slips over, cannot stick tackles, has no breakaway speed and is uncompetitive in the air.

A little unfair on OH. He has laced out many passes in his time, and not bad on the run or in play at goal.

Don’t think it was hiding him in the backline but using his run and ball use was not a negative. His defensive efforts and shutdowns have been pretty good (despite his frame).

His issue mainly is being smothered due to getting ball to boot.

He’s a pretty talented sportsman and will improve his disposal as his career goes.

Maybe it brings entertainment and enjoyment to you to watch them losing 0-60 but it doesn't to me...

Either way, both positions need you to be elite at something...

He’s not a wingman this year. Nor is Acres unfortunately due to rancid form (back surgery hindrance).

Further holes in the team that need redeeming.

Don’t like the HBF for OH but he has taken some big scalps this year for what it’s worth. Thought he was good at HF, while it lasted on Sat.

He’s a bit vanilla, yes, but has the endeavour to work at improving. HP team to build him in up for the tackles to stick and break them and for him to choose the right footwear to prevent the slipping.

I'm absolutely shocked you're advocating for another bottom finish.

We're in this position because we had a haul of early picks being told 'they wont be judged on wins & losses' and that it was okay to lose, as long as they did their best.

Now we have the same players saying they're 'in no rush to win a premiership'.

Look at North - they're about to finish bottom 3 for the 6th year in a row.

Losing breeds losers, surely we've had enough of the overly complex list building methods via bottom finishes. Put your best side out on the park, back your drafting even if its a few picks lower, and just try & win every week.

He's a leader and he knows that Hollands is running free for a reason, it's exactly the same as in a basketball game when the center (who is usually 7ft/214cm tall) is let free when they decide to go out to the 3-point line. No one thinks they can shoot from out there and the defense is quite happy for them to try!

Cripps saw Ollie and didn't want to kick it to him, as he knows on average what would happen next.

Many years ago, Sam Mitchell gave a pre match address to my son's u/16 team.
He was asked, "what's the most important thing you can tell the boys?"

His answer was simple...."what can i do to make my teammates better players"
It doesn't matter what you think of them as players, if you don't try to assist them in improving, they never will.
It's as relevant to junior footballers as it is to AFL players.

Personnel or System? Bit of both
Play a slow contested style that simply doesn't stack up
Need to win 9 of 12 to make finals
We are 6-14 from last 20 games and only Top 8 side we have beaten is Geelong (2 x WCE, 2 x Nth, 2 x Cats)
We won contested ball by 38 on weekend and lost by 28 points
Ball use inside fwd 50 a major issue (WOW, I have been going on about this for 2 years)
Who is ever looking at forward structure and skill development needs to have a good look at themselves
Development is an indictment (Hird)
We play "big headed, selfish football" (Hird)
Long way off having a finals "system"
Teams have worked us out since 2023 finals run and we still play the same

Bottom line is we are a poorly drilled and coached side

My god, I get there's a lot of frustration but there's some awful reactionary takes.

People getting stuck into Ollie, who while far from perfect, is one of the ones lately constantly busting his gut and actually trying to provide options all over the park, is pretty wild.

I think I'll have to take a bit of a spell reading some stuff here, lest I end up savaging someone.
