Why would Nas sign when his value is rising each week?
Exactly.

Cal Twomey said NWM will delay re-signing for a while longer. No need to sign now if he doesn’t want to.

I’d be very surprised if NWM doesn’t re-sign with Saints. Probably for 4 years to take him to free agency.

If, in a worst case scenario, he wants to go home then draft picks alone won’t cut the mustard in any trade. The nominated club will have to offer decent players.

Not ideal I know but I’d be asking for Rachele from a player point of view.

If we failed to attract new players and i was list manager, i'd be paying what we need to keep Nas, then i'd be loading up the likes of Webster, Wood, Steele, maybe even Jones, not because they deserve it, but because we know it will free up again in a short time.

If we have an excess of salary cap, we bring contract payments forward until we hit the maximum amount that we vacant push into the following year.

I'd love TDK, I'd also love to get some currency from Marshall. I am however very wary of the affect that spending a tenth of a yearly salary cap (on one very good player) would have on the rest of the list.

TDK is a very good player, but he's not top 5 in the AFL.

Essendon's 'warchest' went on McKay, Gresham, Durrsma and Goldstein. Shows just because you can spend money, doesn't mean you should if it's on - the wrong one.
So we should forward pay the contracts of everyone else in the HOPE an absolute superstar decides he wants to come.

Completely ignoring the list of players that includes Stengle who already said no.

That sounds very much like something this club would do. Finally get one on the hook and throw it back thinking we could get bigger and end up with a goldfish on massive money.

Crows don't have any players I'd want and they don't have a 2nd rounder either. Currently have pick 16.

Hopefully butters leaves port, to any team with multiple first rounders. Like the bombers.

Who currently have 7 and 9.

So Berg, pick 7 and pick 9 for Nas.

I'm not sure I'm even satisfied with that, I think we need at least a top 5 included.

Taking a B grader on the largest contract in history sounds more like this club. Create an environment that others want to come to and players will want in.

In the meantime find a few cheaper list fillers for while the kids develop. Keeler is making TDK a lot less appealing by the week right now.

I think NWM is gone, sadly. It’ll be a big blow if he does leave. We’ll be able to use the returns to hopefully build out the list for the future, but I hate seeing good players leave the club.

I hope I’m wrong.

Club has nailed its talent ID in the last few years.

I’ll be perfectly happy to back them in.

We are a kpf short, Ro / TDK rotating solves that. Plus insurance re: max getting on the park.
If Keeler keeps playing like yesterday, we might have a KPF too many as it is.

Once Max is back, do we have space for Max/Keeler/Sharman/Owens/Phillipou all tall or mid sized forwards?

We do have an issue at back up ruck, but it's only an issue if Ro gets injured

I'm hoping Dodson develops fast and between him and Boyd we can be competitive even if Ro's out for a few weeks.

TDK.

Looks like we will finally land a player (TDK) and people want to throw him back in the water (fishing analogy) and try and catch something better.

Oh ok, i was doing a hypothetical "if" we fail to attract player, how would you deal with the cap.
Obviously if we get TDK that won't be an issue.

I'm not over the moon about TDK, since i can't see both him and Roma fitting in the squad.
So to me the improvement of the team is the little bit that TDK may be better than Marshall.
The upside is we should be set for some years into the future, whereas Marshall is on limited time i suppose.

Hoyne from Champion Data was talking about rucks a week or so ago.
He was basically saying that the data suggests having your ruckman , and then selecting the best 21 non-ruckmen.
You then choose the one of those best suited to backup ruck.
Backup rucks on average attend 1 centre square per quarter, and if you lose anything at all from your side by having a second ruckman its not worth it.

How many centre bounce attendances did Mitch have? I know he had 3 hit outs with one to advantage. ( Mitch attended 11 ball ups , but not all were centre square ).

We’d have 2 big contracts, not half the list like Carlton.

Please have a lie down!
King + NWM + Vibes

=

3 big contracts including the highest paid player in the AFL

Meanwhile we've played more 22 and unders this year than any other club, and they'll all need pay rises in coming years. And we'll still need have other list needs like midfielders.

Where was Max Gawn in this data set?

Max’s deal is front ended and incentives based on it’s not flat.

And most clubs would have more than 3 big contracts.

In no world is TDK a B grader, he is a very good player. If nothing else his athleticism makes him genuinely unique and sets him apart from other rucks. Him and Keeler could be a great combination.

Source?

When a "big contract" would be 60% of Vibes proposed deal, it's more accurate to say St Kilda would have 3 1/2 or 4
Mate the Pies have Perryman on roughly 900k per year for 6 years. On top of Daicos Houston etc

Jack lukosius is on approx 900k for the next 6 years on top of Rozee Butters JHF etc

The dogs have a few.

Saying we have TDK King Nas and making it a big deal doesn’t make us stand out of the ordinary against the rest of the league

Breathe easy everyone - NWM resigning to be announced on Tuesday week. 6 year contract.
And why are they waiting to announce it till then?
Not that I don’t want to believe - but I’m waiting for an official statement.

After yesterday’s win would’ve been a perfect time.
