I just think we've become impatient when for so long we were on the right track of drafting quality youngsters
1/ To be fair, TDK, Bergman and Aleer are not old. Plus our list is out of balance age wise.

2/ And We have a weaker draft hand this year's draft, and that is going to limit the "quality" of youngsters we can land.

Currently 4, 40, 60 (and then late picks if we have slots left). And with all the FA Compo Academy Players, NGA's and FSs they will all 4 & 40 will slide. Probably quite dramatically.

I am hoping that our first pick stays low enough to draft a gun young mid.

On the plus side we get Fincher at a discount when we match.

So our ability to draft quality youngsters this year is going to be somewhat constrained.

and doing moneyball picks like Max Hall which is great.

Worth noting that we took no mid season Draftee this year (Sharman, Hall).

If we are ever going to land some more FA's then this really needs to the year to do it, especially as the Club has set up the "War Chest" to do it. I am hoping the club has someone else in mind in addition to TDK.

There's every chance that our F1 is a top 5 pick. I wouldn't count on sudden improvement.

Yes we should see some young players improve, but 10 players in our current best 22 are 29 or older, and some of them will begin or continue to drop off. We may also lose a few to trade/retirement.

If we bring in TDK, that's not much of an upgrade on Marshall, if at all. Bergman is looking like he could be a good acquisition, though if we lose Nas that's a net loss. Aleer doesn't look any better than Caminiti in defence.

I wouldn't necessarily bank on us being better than anyone other than Richmond and WC next year.
I’m definitely counting on improvement. Particularly if NAS stays and we have luck on the injury front.

Thing is they’re not going to give Bergman away and we need to definitely keep this years first.

What Dilena said probably makes me the least confident I've been about the Nas situation. So hes single, his housemates are whipped and not hanging around and he misses family. It's the perfect storm.

Any chance we can get channel 7 to do a series of 'The Footballer wants a (Victorian) Wife' over the summer?

Yeah nothing there makes me think he's staying. 90% sure he's gone

Big Tony said to be patient and no need to panic. There was nothing in that interview that indicated to me that we should be worried. Remember he signed an extension with us at the point he was most homesick. He seems to be a very mature, level headed guy who is being looked after well by the club.

Aleer seems like even more of an odd choice considering Hammer is showing a bit in defence with no experience there.
They must think he has levels to go to. His size and ability to impact contests is huge. We definitely need more height back there, Hammer showing good signs but needs help.

Carls comments provide a little bit of context, but we already know if Nas was making a purely footballing decision, then Port wouldn't be the destination (compared to Adelaide, or staying). Port might have a bit of turmoil ahead

I think people said the same thing when we went after Xerri & Draper.
They may have said that about Xerri but not Draper , he has just had a bad run with injuries .

Xerri has grown a leg in the last year , wish we had him

Realistic best 22 right now if everyone was fit

B: Webster, Howard, Wilkie
HB: Nas, Caminiti, Sinclair
C: Hill, Steele, Wood
HF: Higgins, Sharman, Hall
F: Butler, King, Owens

Foll: Marshall, Macrae, Phillipou
Int: Windhager, Wilson, Stocker, Clark

29 or over

Webster
Howard
Wilkie
Sinclair
Hill
Steele
Wood
Butler
Marshall
Macrae
So even if everyone was fit where do you see us at ? IMO that's still a 13th - 18th team and i say 18th as the eagles did beat us

I prefer Bergman over Aleer as a priority. We still have Howard who is 28 tauru and Barrett developing plus caminiti.
Mids on the other hand plus his family are lifelong saints
I love Doug, but he is is 30 at the start of next year and hasn't played a full season since 2021.

Aleer does worry me, but his long arms and leap make him a unique option, he is closer to a 200cm backman than his official height suggests.

I’m gonna read into this heaps. When port played us in the pre season at Moorabbin. Bergman was running off into the room before the game and I yelled out at him “ see you next year Bergman” he looked at me and smiled. He’s coming
