At some point I think we need to cut the cord though. I don't think both Macrae and Steele in our midfield are getting us anywhere soon, and getting more midfield minutes into Pou/Garcia/Boxshall is what's needed.
Only thing stopping Pou from getting midfield minutes is his body. No player on the list is going to prevent him from playing there when he is fit enough. The others, they need to prove they more then VFL mids before we start moving on players so they can 'get minutes'. Reminds me of the constant calls to trade players because Bytel needed midfield minutes.

You dont spend $1.7million on a ruckman for him to, potentially, have to ruck to Sandy's midfield of this year.

If nas does leave to Adelaide , what are we genuinely going to get from either club?

Port
Bergman+whitlock/berry+future 1st is probably the best we could get there.

Crows
2025 1st, 2026 1st+ pedlar/c.edwards/z.taylor

Our depth probably improves, but we lose our only star player.

Under no scenario is losing Nas even a break even.

Would prefer Nas over Butters, Bergman and their F1

Shaun Burgoyne leaving port after 157 then went on to play 250 more for hawthorn.

Nas is of that ilk along with Winmar, McLoud and very few others.

Having only played 85 games at the end of this season, he could comfortably play 280-300+ additional extremely high level games.

The certainty of his ability, proven consistency, developing period well completed and with scope still to improve makes him at the highest value possible from this point in his career.

Our interest in Rowell is confirmed here. No one can blame the club for a lack of trying. We're doing our best to take it up to the big VIC clubs

1.7 million/year...again

"Rowell took the interest from St Kilda seriously given he is aware of what the club is attempting to build under Ross Lyon."

Hopefully this doesn't impact TDK's thinking somehow

As i mentioned in late January. We presented a compelling case, just wasn't the right time for him

So even if everyone was fit where do you see us at ? IMO that's still a 13th - 18th team and i say 18th as the eagles did beat us

If that team played played every game at full fitness but other clubs had a normal amount of injuries then I think we'd finish 5-8. But that's fantasy as injuries are always going to happen, so take out a handful of important players and have a few others hobbling around on the field or not match fit and we find ourselves in the bottom 4.

And if we had no injuries but neither did other clubs? We finish around 12-14

My takeaway from Dilena is that the manager is trying to squeeze as much money out of the club as he can.

It's hardly surprising if we're throwing huge money offers around that our brightest star wants to get paid.

I'd be really surprised if Nas went elsewhere.
Yep, very confident he stays.

Also got the feeling the manager is a bit of a putz.

I've personally been confident NAS would stay since he said this to AFL.com.au after the Melbourne win in Alice Springs:

"I am happy playing here. I've got great relationships with the boys. I love Ross, I love all the coaching staff. I want to be part of something special here at St Kilda," Wanganeen-Milera told AFL.com.au after passing a SKAT5 test at TIO Traeger Park on Sunday night.

"This is obviously a step towards it. We've got a good young crew. We are all self-driven and want to be the best Saints ever. That's what we are striving for. We know there are going to be ups and downs. We just want to keep sticking at it and getting to work.

"Obviously the media talks, so we just try and concentrate on getting to work on building out our future. I try and let my footy do the talking and try and avoid the stuff. My manager is back in Adelaide so we will talk over there."

I personally feel like less would have been said if he wasn't staying at club or wasn't sure. Things can change, but I hang my hat on this.

Also, for the doomsayers, if NAS leaves to Port it's not going to be great but I'm comforted just a little bit by the form and potential shown by Bergman. Yes, ideally we want both NAS and Bergman. But losing NAS and gaining draft capital and Bergman is not the complete end of the world.

I’d give a late first for Bergman in this draft.
Limited exposure, looks every bit a midfielder ready to break out. Age fits a list need.
I’d also trust that port offering him an 8 year deal speaks a fair bit about their level of confidence.
Just as likely to draft a bloke who’s delisted in 4 years time.
A couple months ago I'd have said a future 1st no problem. That was when l thought we'd likely be a top 8 side in 2026 and that the flow of crucial injuries couldn't possibly continue for so long.

I hope we keep Steele & Marshall ... we still need experience

Aleer needs to show more for mine
Still got Wilkie, Wood, Sinclair and Hill. TDK is no spring chicken either. Their experience is valuable but time waits for no man and we can't afford another year from Steele like the last 2

How's that female Blues supporter behind SOS and DILOS having a sneaky listen to what he's saying on the phone? Bet she's recounting it on the Blues BF board right now!

"What's that, Rossy...yeh TDK told me he will even take a pay cut now to get out of this shit show...yeh,,,uh huh...second rounder for Walsh...yep..."

I'm not as bullish on the potential recruits as others here. Glass half empty as a longtime saints supporter probably. Hope I'm wrong.

Re: Aleer, just remember when Melbourne traded in Jake Lever and Stephen May. The Hawks got in Barrass and Battle. Here we are offering big money on potential to a guy that's barely played any games. Is Aleer going to be as good as Sam Taylor, Jack Buckley, Paine from Brisbane etc? I don't think so.

Re: TDK, does some good things, but how different is he to Marshall when playing against stronger types like Cameron and Sweet? Is he worth $1.7m? What does this do the culture of the club and how do the other saints players perceive that? Will they feel slighted?

Re: Bergman, yeh he did some good things last night, but he also missed a few targets. Another tagger? Once again, he has potential to be a good mid but how long can he sustain it and how good can he get? Seems okay but as many in here refer to 'moving the needle', I don't believe he does that.

I just think we've become impatient when for so long we were on the right track of drafting quality youngsters and doing moneyball picks like Max Hall which is great. I think we need to continue on that path a bit longer and keep looking for low price gems rather than go on what seems like a panic buying spree. Like how GWS got Bedford from Melb and turned him great. But what would I know.
This is not "glass half empty", it's just common sense and realism.

Ollie Lord is also a Sandy boy.

Hasn’t really got a run this year though.
