List Mgmt. Welcome Jobe Shanahan (Pick 30, 2024 National Draft)

Maybe some of the old fellas can call in JK for some part-time mentoring.
Jobe's hands with JK's forward craft.

As much as Lloyd is a moron in the media he really helped out Jobe last year. I'd be very tempted to see if even if it was just for the off season if he was interested in coming over and helping mentor in separation from opponent and leading lanes for our young forwards.

I was of the view that people were going overboard on this kid... that they needed to cool their heels and let him develop in the WAFL... and that there was nothing wrong with the club looking at him as a potential key defender.

I take it all back.

Has AA CHF written all over him. Get his signature ASAP.
He looks damn good as a forward. I'd be looking at moving Reid instead of Shanahan.

They never were attempting to develop him as a KPD, according to his comments from his debut. They played him back there so he got a better understanding of what his defender would be doing/thinking.

He said they always intended to play him as a KPF long term.

People just latched onto it from his comments earlier in the year about having a better year as a defender pre-draft.

Not entirely, Mini seems to genuinely rate his ability to play both ends. Also recall Riley Beveridge saying on the AFL draft broadcast that clubs saw his future as a defender.
Hopefully he continues his form up forward and makes it hard to make that decision

He's a very good defender but Jobe himself also said it playing back for a few weeks was for his long term development as a forward.

“The way he attacks the ball and the way he’s got the confidence to kick those long-range goals. He’s kicked a couple of goals from outside 50m already which is already a pretty big confidence booster for a young player.
“His work-rate which is really high as well which is one of the things that impresses me most about Josh Treacy.”

Also they both come from the same mighty Talent League club.

I can't stress how highly he was rated internally at the Pioneers during his time here.

Now just need that signature.

Now just need that signature.
We messaged two weeks ago when I congratulated him on his first game.
It would be very presumptuous of me to ask him directly about re-signing. Although if I was a betting man I'd say he is likely to stay. He is loyal and I think Perth would suit him more than Melbourne, knowing his temperament.

Who is the banana from the West comparing the great Shanahan with Treacy?

Shanahan will never be dropped from this team until he’s played at least 250 games.
Wish I could agree but I have seen some seriously bizarre selection decisions from Mini so wouldn’t at all be surprised if Shanahan randomly finds himself out of the team at some point

JK always applied great pressure for a big ****er. Jack Darling a beast there too.

Couple of HTB frees in his favour three games into his career. Not sure they show him to be some sort of relentless chase down machine yet, but he can already stick them when they’re there.

Glides on the ground and in the air. Marks everything. Beautiful kick.

Set and forget forever thanks.

His body posistioning seems elite. He’ll lose a 1v1 but isn’t getting monstored and there’s been so many times he’s out pointed bigger players but due to strength has missed out

Remembered this post from eaglespremiers on Shanahan from October last year before we even drafted him:

“Interesting re. Shanahan. I agree with you about needs. But from a purely personal perspective I would be stoked to pick Jobe.
He is IMO the best key forward in the draft and TBH I would place him at a level above Archer Reid as a KPF option, despite him being drafted a year later than Reid. What this would mean for Reid, I'm not sure, but Jobe is genuinely menacing in marking contests and I don't think it will take long for him to stamp himself at AFL level.”

Spot on. Wealth of knowledge on the Bendigo boys with a good eye for talent and didn’t miss here.

It is, along with taking the ball at his highest point like JK and Oscar. He’s filled out so much just over 6 months, hell be an absolute nightmare matchup in a few years.
