Levi switched to the sub.

The Suns came to win and we did not. Complete lack of effort. Kind of sums up our season really, we either win from behind, or don't win at all.

Omac is clearly not up to it and shouldn't play again this season, full stop. Why we kept putting him in the ruck baffles me, when Fort was there. Fort wasn't great either, but at least he wasn't tapping it repeatedly to Suns players. Going for a complete reshuffle here for the rucks, as that was just bad. Day seems to be a lucky charm for us, so hopefully putting him in helps, but we can't keep running a two ruck setup, won't win us a final. Henry Smith deserves a go if he can get on the park.

Really badly need a goal kicking coach in the off season.

Not confident coming into this Collywobble game.

Didn't think about it until I saw your post, but Zorko looks to be injured. May have to play Beecken.

That would be good. Not sure Beecken's going to get a look in now, even if Zorko is injured. Was a bit shocked by Fages in his presser before the team for the Bulldogs game was released. He was asked about options in covering Answerth and Bailey. He responded with a list of players he could consider as defenders and a list of players who could play wing. Did not mention Beecken as a defender at all but as a wing option where he's never played. Must have caught the VFL coaching staff by surprise as now he's turning up on the wing a bit.

One ruck, i don't care who, but Oscar looks way out of sorts, so probably Fort.
I doubt they play Smith as sole ruck, and i never really like 2 rucks.

Day in or we go small with Hippy ruck relief.
Choose one option and run with that for the rest of the year barring injuries.

Marshall to wing relief as i doubt Lohmann will be back next week.

I would also like to give Beecken a run but can not see anyone who deserves dropping. As stated earlier I do think the back line mix feels and looks off to me, Payne/Answerth sorely missed, could be the straw that broke our back2back chances sadly.

But the most important change would be the midfield stepping up and applying manic pressure up the ground and running back with intent.... like we know they as a group are capable of.

We will only win this if our forward half pressure is elite and our midfield wins well. I don't think our backline can hold their forwards without a lot of help from the pressure we provide up the ground. We're capable of it but we will need to be at our best for 4 quarters to have a win. I hope we have a plan for Nick.

Starcevich is terribly out of touch. His form doesn’t warrant selection for what is our biggest game of the year. There can be no doubt that Gardiner tries, but he lacks polish, gets caught out of position too often, is a poor ground ball player and gives away far too many silly free kicks. Having both in the same side just doesn’t work. Both will be MURDERED next week against Collingwood. If ever there was a time to bring Coleman back into the team it was against Gold Coast, to not bring him in against Collingwood for an out of form Starcevich borders on negligent. With Doedee (who is supposed to be good), Brain, Reville and Joyce waiting in the wings, there is no excuse for persisting with out of form players in defence.

I went to yesterday’s VFL game.

Reville was disinterested and played lazy football for most of the day. He’s capable, but just not putting in.

Joyce is several rungs below Gardiner in terms of quality and game sense.

Brain has gone backwards a bit. He’s as willing as they come, but he needs to work on his disposal.

The best players in our reserves are Marshall and Day, followed by Henry Smith.

Coleman is a mile off it at the moment. I believe he possibly needs to gain more confidence in his body, then his game will follow.

Doedee is even further away. At the moment, he hasn’t shown he’s regained his leap or agility. Currently, there’s not a chance in hell he could cover for Starcevich.

Edit: Yes I’m aware Marshall didn’t play reserves yesterday.

Smith is not ready to solo ruck at AFL level. He was comprehensively beaten by Moyle in the ruck yesterday.

And the only teams that I can think of, that don’t have an AFL quality ruck are West Coast, and Essendon due to injuries.
