Our attrition rate has gone beyond the concerning stage at the wrong time of the year.

Still others get a chance. We'll give it a crack with what we have and be competitive.

It is very concerning that’s for sure. Hopefully aside from Answerth and Payne, they’ll be good to go when it matters though.

ASADA’s probably keen for that too!
When the Barometer takes off his shirt as the sub, watch out.

Nearly makes up for the easy ones he misses.
Normally these kinds of snide remarks are absolutely in my wheelhouse.

But in Cam's defence on this occasion I think it's worth pointing out that his shot in the third quarter from 25 out directly in front was from almost exactly the same blade of grass at almost exactly the same stage of the corresponding game last year, with a very similar margin on the scoreboard.

That evening if I recall correctly, Cam missed terribly (he may have hit the post?). On Saturday night he split the middle. Absolute chalk and cheese.

(Just checked AFL tables... Cam's goal this year came at 16:07 into Q3 to give us a 14 point lead. Last year his miss came at 17:45 into Q3 to give us a 19 point lead. Zac also missed a relatively easy shot in that same quarter in 2024 but kicked truly this year. Seizing the moment matters!)

That was not a snide remark. If you could watch all of Cam's shots this year he misses too many gettable goals for a player of his stature. And both he and Bailey are players having shots when team mates are in prime positions.

I love Cam but he does has teflon coating when it comes to doing one thing really really exciting compared to doing 5 things really really bad. His disposal by foot against Collingwood and The Suns was not good and hurt us sevaral times. Some players can get away with it while others need to be hung for their foparys.

Isn’t it similar to how Zorko has a license to go for tough kicks knowing that it won’t always come off and could hurt but the good will outweigh the bad?

Cam is an attacking player, will take an attacking kick and or handball 90% of the time. When you play that way you are bound to make mistakes.

If the future could be now - best inside mid going around in the reserves the last couple of weeks Daniel Annabel.

Second best before and after concussion protocols Dev Robertson. I'm for keeping the team functioning as is and moving the less number of magnets as possible so everyone stays in the roles they know. Dev into the midfield rotation, Doedee in for this game.

Agree. I then depends on how damaging your mistakes are compared to the positive ones he does.

Hope he gets more time at CBAs with Lach out. Think the more he touches it the better his good looks and the less his bad hurts.

...but do we have an inside mid in the seniors playing out of position who can wear Lachie's boots for the remainder of the H&A season and do a better job than Dev?
I'm not anti-Dev, but there's a reason he's been pushed down the pecking order. If he does get picked then I hope he plays out of his skin to give himself the best chance of a contract next season (with us, or someone else - wherever he'll get the best opportunity to continue his career).

Watched Dunkleys pod last night apparently Lachie damaged his quad in the 1st quarter. Says two things his ability to play under duress is remarkable and the injury must be on the more minor side.

Almost as if he plays better with an injury considering his finish to last season when he could barely walk during the week

I watch Ads and Dunks most weeks, provides a difference to the Matho and Mitch Robbo Podcast.

All terrific characters in their own way.

I don't have the stats .
But I would say that the benefits of blazing away at a shot on goal say on the fifty or just outside verses spotting up a free player, with little to no risk of not finding him ,is on the wrong side of the ledger of percentages.
Ok, sometimes the player that you have kicked it to may miss, drop the mark so possibly you could say a more direct fewer kicks to goal is more efficient , but for mind if you have a player in a better position and you have the option to give then give it.
There is a thing called team first , and when you burn your own players to take the glory , considering the player made the effort , may feel unrewarded.
You know like Gunston in out team, pretty much ignored the bloke.

Depends maybe on what drives you.
Some people love bringing in other players and that's a massive reward, others go for glory.
I honestly believe you need both or can be both, someone has to be able to sniff out a goal from nothing and that is usually the striker( Soccer I know).
Nothing wrong with going for glory , just don't burn your mates too many times.
It might just be the difference in the game .
This may sound a bit knit picky, I know, but we need to oil the machine and fine tune her.

I think this is the way. If Lachie was out for the whole year would definitely agree with a reshuffle with the likes of Levi, Marshall or Bailey getting more time in the inside. But we need a placeholder not a long-term replacement so would go for Dev - a plug and play type so others can stick to the system and keep refining the roles they will play in finals given we're already on the 'runway'.

Also would love to see Doedee, had the highest ceiling of the options and there is a chance playing AFL again might have a psychological impact and help him make the leap to fully trust his body again and get into game day flow-state instead of playing in demo mode in the VFL.

This comment is a little different to the point I was making but I agree with most of it.

Cam’s game against the Suns was riddled with clangers. It wasn’t clangers related to ghosting players in the team, it was clangers simply related to bad disposal. His 3 goals late in the game were good but the errors he made throughout the game cost us.
This extends out from my initial post reagrding how Rayner and a couple of others are forgiven significanlty more than others because they are more exciting& entertaining to watch than others who just go about thier roles as given.
That said, I love watching Cam Rayner when he’s on fire.
