C'mon. The first three games were complete and utter destructions of 2 weakened teams (Saints/Essendon) and a perennially shit team North.
The number of goal kickers is always bigger in absolute thrashings. Its like arguing we were a better side offensively in 2024 because in our drubbings against North and West Coast we had 12 and 13 goal kickers.
You are accusing me of spinning it?
We played a top 4 team on the road and scored 90 bloody points and kicked 14 goals. There is no way to spin it that our scoring dried up.
Look Murphy sucks. He probably cost us that game by being invisible in the last quarter yet again. But to think he changes our structure completely and our scoring dried up because of him is laughable at best.
Replacing a contributor with someone who isnt capable of performing at the level, even on their best day means we lose that impact. Which means Nicks is likely to be shuffling the deck chairs. So if Murphy comes in he is likely to slot straight into the HF role he has always played. Is this the best we can do? no!
The clear answer without a doubt was Dowling. He is easily our next best midfielder and his match history suggests he would have provided a decent full match contribution. Good coaches find opportunities to bring in next generation talent. Not sure Dowling can do anymore than he has done than what he did last year to prove he has what is needed for a long AFL career. Murphy is the opposite.
