Recap at a glance:
  • Harley Reid has signed a two-year extension, which keeps him at West Coast until at least the end of 2028.
  • He still has one season left on his rookie deal, the new extension kicks in for 2027.
  • Cal Twomey reports that the deal could reach up to $2m per year if Harley triggers all incentives (e.g. this is not a base $2m per year deal).
  • This is a straight two year extension, with no player option for a +9 or anything similar.
  • Get a big dog up ya, Victoria.

Conspiracy theory but Harley/his manager putting up an unrealistic counter offer may have been done so the narrative can be "I wanted to stay but they didn't want me" to avoid all the shit JHF copped if he asks for a trade end of season.

imo he wants to stay for the medium-term, with the option of him leaving back to Victoria, and has a high opinion of himself hence the massive counter contract, if we're still dog shit in a few years he will leave via the clause.

If I'm West Coast I'm pushing hard on having that get out clause coming in after 3 or 4 years, not the 2 years proposed.

The additional 2 years is actually (in some ways) an olive branch to WC to make the +9yrs option more appealing.

He becomes a free agent after 6 years (I’m assuming restricted, but that really matters little) so 3 yr rookie contract + 3yr extension would be a disaster.

At 5yrs he still needs to be traded if he wants out.

Ideally the 9yrs would have a 5+4 structure with player and club options, but we aren’t really working in the world of ideals.

I would also say that the AFL marketing budget (I believe $300k x 3 players) would 100% be part of the offer (I.e. guaranteed for contract duration). Easy now as we probably struggle for 3 marketable players - but he moves to a Hawks or Geelong and there is a lot more competition (and some egos who would get crabby!) for those $

Suma heard that at the McGovern after game drinks that everyone was talking that Oscar has never even been offered a contract by the club and is really upset about it
Also Harley doesn’t want to be here and will just fleece the club for two years before taking off
has the manager agreed to terms?

why would I waste time doing paperwork when there is no agreement in principle?

not offered a contract isn't same as not being offered to extend a contract.

oh yeah and Suma is an idiot.

I don’t have specific details about the contract itself. Only that it will be signed and is likely to be finalised early next week.

I realise how unhelpfully vague that is but I’m not going to make professional people uncomfortable by requesting details of their work for the sake of internet points. All I was really interested in was whether it would be done and when.

Geez pantskyle with all the foreplay and beatlesmith with the sex.

This isn’t how it was supposed to end.

  • pantskyle with all the foreplay
  • beatlesmith with the sex... but doesn't care if you finished or not 💦
A little bit of after-care wouldn't go astray 😉

beatlesmith used to brave the windswept 3rd tier at Subi with me in the 2010 spoon days which makes him the most trustworthy type of individual.
What are the opposite of halcyon days?

With that being said, has there been a better night at the footy than Naitanui’s breakout game against Hawthorn in a monsoon?
