List Mgmt. Welcome Campbell Chesser (Pick 14, 2021 National Draft)

Looks like Campbell’s going to be on board for another two years. Thoroughly deserves with what he’s worked through. WCE_18 all over it on the trade thread.

“After winning a career-best 22 disposals and 10 contested possessions against the Western Bulldogs last Sunday, the Eagles are understood to have tabled a two-year offer for the 186cm midfielder through to the end of 2027.”

Welfare check on Jez probably required.

Would be a massive boon if he can go on and improve from here.

Looked really good since the shackles have ben taken off.

The big if is whether his body can hold up and he can maintain this level of drive. He has be psyching himself up all year, and his motivation to save his career is stark against how demoralised the rest of the team is.

We’re pretty desperate for any positive signs - let’s hope this is a legitimate one and not just a few decent games late in a season

He's shown more in these past 3 games than he has in his entire career but making the decision to interrupt his season and instead get his ankle right appears to be paying off.

Then there's the fact the Mini seems to actually be using him properly, unlike Simmo who just told him to guard space and run away from the ball.

He’s literally the prototype McQualter wants. Athletic, good tackler and fast. Needs to stay fit and a role that suits his strengths. That’s it, he’ll do the rest. Looked like the best kick at speed on the team the last couple of weeks along with McCarthy.

Gavin Bell talked about the ankle injury Chesser suffered on SEN yesterday

It’s something that has, and always will, need ongoing management which limits his ability to train fully

Hopefully the surgery he had earlier this year has got it right and it doesn’t trouble him to the same extent it has in the past
Ankles generally heal very well in time (except possibly heel spurs can continue to niggle) I fully dislocated both mine, each took at least 18months to get back to 100% but never had an issue after and I’m now over 50 (I’m sure it will come back to bite me one day lol) one just looks odd with scar tissue)
I started stretching the ligaments during games by standing there and rolling on them at any opportunity as a precaution, so incase I rolled one they were pre stretched and (in my theory) less likely to tear. Science may say otherwise but I never tore anything again even when I’d roll one so it seemed to work.
I’d not be surprised at all if CC’s injury held him back for 18 months but with the minor surgery and AFL level rehab I’m betting by now it’s feeling a heck of a lot better and will continue to, and it’s showing! (Especially if he does my in game stretches 🤪😂)

Bit of luck he has a full season next year by the end of which he will be ~60 games.

Same as Hewett and Reid.

Reubs ~85
Hall ~40 games
Hough ~100
Maric ~75
tmac ~ 35
Dewar ~ 45 games
Archer ~ 35 games
jobe ~ 35 games

Obviously not all these guys will play every game , but we should be starting to see improvement in the squad in the back half of next year and into 27.

Crazy that Hough has played 75 games already!

I'm hoping this year is the low point for that reason. It should almost be impossible to stay down too long in AFL as long as you pick the obvious top talent and then develop them. The only time this happens is when teams muck up draft after draft. Carlton did it for a while and Brisbane got stuck around 10th/11th for years so never got the top talent.

I know it's fun to mock North but I just don't see how they won't move out of bottom 4 next year based on the talent they have and the number of games they've played.

To be honest, I thought that last year...

Surely a 2 year contract gets me sponsor of the year.
It took big balls to pick Chesser well done. My boy Davis did well this year I'm very pleased for him. Which poor son of a bitch got Owies? Pretty sure he was taken before my pick otherwise I probably would've gone for him lol

Freo stayed the youngest team in the league or thereabouts year after year by constantly winning the draft (trading out middling players for decent picks...see Acres and Cera). The trick is convincing your youth to stick around and take the losses.

Posted this in the positives and negatives thread in response to some casual Campbell slander
He was fourth in clearances, had basically a 50/50 split on contested/uncontested ball, was fourth in meters gained.

Not saying he doesn’t have a bit to work on but he’s developing a rounded game and shown more in last month than the previous three years. There’s a player there

I’ve thought about it further and I’ve decided who he reminds me of….

Hugh Mcluggage. Well a Temu Hugh Mcluggage.

Big bodied winger with a penetrating kick and running power who transitioned inside.

Would like to see Chesser move further inside in the preseason in preparation for next year.

He is definitely growing in confidence.

Shame Papley got him HTB would've been great of he had bursted through.

Hes backing himself more and more and trying things (the kick to Shanahan was 👌)

Hope he has a massive pre season with the mid group, could be a breakout year
