FURTHER NORTH podcast:
“The number of the pick doesn’t matter…”
“This is a shallow draft.”

Also FURTHER NORTH podcast:
“We have picks 21 & 22…”

Hahahaha we swindled you guys. This draft is terrible (all the good talent is around the 20’s where we hold two picks!) and Whitlock is guaranteed star.
Yes the best players are in the 20s...putting aside how stupid that is, your picks will be in the 30s lol

Hes been dropped...twice 🤣🤣🤣

You traded pick 3 for a guy that can't get a game in a bottom 3 rabble.

On a more serious note, North really have stuffed up their rebuild. They were terrified of not taking the 'best player' in the draft so chose midfielder with their first pick each and every draft. Sure they are building a great midfield but, like the Dogs proved, a strong midfield doesn't win you a flag. We won our flags by almost ignoring clearances completely and just concentrated on forward half turnovers.

We've been blessed to have so many early choices in the one draft so we could cover every area of the ground but we proved in previous drafts that we targeted our backline first, not our midfield.

I feel we have tried to shore up our talls early with Trainor, Faull, Armstrong and Sims all taken in the last draft. Even Smilie and Lalor are tall and, particularly Smilie, were taken with the understanding that they would take longer to develop.

This draft should be all about the midfield. I hope they use our two firsts to get two natural ball winners/users. They may take a half back (Lindsay?) and a ruck (Duff-Tyler) but I hope not. I'm hoping for Sharp and Greeves.

Anyway, North needs to trade in/draft more young key position players to compliment their midfield or they will hit their ceiling quickly and never make it far into the finals.

We should never ignore best available talent just to the positional player the team needs for next year or the year after
Always take the best talent irrespective of position.

If CDT is best available talent at out pick - We take him
If there is 5 players rated similar on our board and a trade down is available to gain extra collateral and select another kid rated similar - Trade down

I don't think we can say Norf stuffed their rebuild by going Mids first. They showed they are miles ahead of us (as they should be, being more advanced in their rebuild). We have taken the path of KPP's first, only time will tell if that was a smart move.
Miles ahead based on the last game in Tassie where the only player missing from Norths best-23 was Larkey… Is that what you’re basing it on?

They won half a game more than us and basically our entire young midfield didn’t play : Lalor, Hotton, Smillie and McCauliffe.

We’ve got better defensive depth than them. A better spread of KPF options. And better group of small forwards.

They’ve got us in ruck and current midfield, but that’ll be short lived.

Their list build is a shambles. They’ll jump up the ladder as how can you not affer 6 x bottom 3 finishes in a row and elite picks galore? But they’re not contending seriously in the next decade.

Tell me who wins

Pick #4 for picks #27 + #31

If you are counting the picks we traded to them as 27 and 31....then the pick we got from them will likely fall to about pick 7 by the time it is activated at the draft. Also, I don't think our Rd 2 pick will fall as far as 31. It is pick 20 now and after all the FA, father-son & academy insertions it could fall to around pick 30. But there will likely be picks before that used to match bids, so by the time North use that pick it might be around pick 26 or 27.

This trade in isolation absolutely suits both clubs. The value has likely fallen our way in terms of draft points. But when you factor in the 2024 draft is thought to be a lot stronger and deeper than the 2025 renewal, there might not be as much disparity in this trade as first appears the case. Not a shadow of a doubt the trade suits our ends though.

Mate they could have used the pick they traded for Caleb Daniel to draft Whitlock. So they traded pick 3 for Caleb Daniel and a 20 something. He's not worth giving away a top 5 pick in any draft ever. It's a massive fail of list and draft management.

Should trade us another top 5 pick for a dud and pick 30 so you can swindle us again

Nah. If we initiate the matching of bids, it’s irrelevant what the pick falls to. We will still have the third best player in the open market. We will determine what the pick falls to. Pick 7? Highly doubt that.
Our second rounder could easily fall into the 30’s. We win this trade by a country mile, no matter how you or Norf supporters sell it. Matt Whitlock is an ok player, but he ain’t worth what they’ve ended up paying. For example, Dyson Sharp or Whitlock, I know which one I’m choosing
