True. If we ripped it off from anywhere (and we definitely did) it was from the British & Irish Lions rugby tour in 2001 which was played at the Gabba. Such is the overlap of sporting support in Brisbane that many of our members would have there that night.
How many ways can you chant Lions? It’s not exactly a trademarked chant that has been stolen…

1. Lions! (Clap clap clap) Lions (clap clap clap).
- so 80’s, and in today’s age who can be bothered with all that physical activity.
2. Let’s go Lions let’s go!
- 🤮
3. Lions-Lions-Lions, Oi-Oi-Oi!
- the “fanatics” killed any enjoyment of that by chanting it every second point for any Australian at the AO tennis
4. Liiiioooonnnnssss….liiiiiooooonnnnnsss…

That’s it. There’s no other options (unless the British & Irish Lions brought us in new material last month).

Last time we played Geelong it was just after Payne had done his knee and we just went with the two tall defenders. But also Starcevich and Answerth both played so I imagine we will keep it simple and roll out the same back 7 as Sunday night, simply to maintain cohesion as much as anything.

I think the only reason we ended up with the two talls down back that game was because Gardiner was a late out??

That one's fine. The siren doesn't matter, it's the umpire's whistle.
There was some drop kick SEN caller complaining that if the umpires threw up the ball instead of bouncing there would be 2 additional seconds in the quarter (because of the extra flight time of the bounce) and Ginnivan’s goal would have counted. 🤪

It was 100% lifted from the British and Irish Lions supporters. Been attending Brisbane Lions games since there have been Brisbane Lions games to attend and it only started after 2001.

The long and rolling Lions chant was made famous during the 2001 British & Irish Lions tour of Australia... The inspiring nature of the loud and proud chant ringing around the stadium by the visiting British & Irish rugby fans was soon adopted by Lions members and supporters at the Gabba and deployed to great effect from 2001 to 2004. In those days it was a lot more drawn out and intimidating. Now, I think it's too quick and misses the mark.

I'm not claiming borrowing a chant from someone else is a bad thing. It's a tribute in a way. Way back in the annals of history, someone came up with the clap-clap-clap chant and was copied throughout every VFL club. As an aside, that person probably felt rightly chuffed when it spread.

Record with Sam Day in the team: 10-2.

Record without sam day: 5-4-1.

Sam plays an important part structure wise and like McStay you can see the difference when he's not there. Goals from these guys are/were a bonus but not essential. Same with Hippy - see the difference with Morris when he's not there to take a key defender.

In case Lester calls it a day, the quickest way Doedee can re-pay our investment is to shadow Lester all off-season and learn from every single play and how he handles it. It's no shame in trying to understand a working model from the incumbent expert so you can replicate it for the following year and beyond.
Doedee’s problems lie in his body and his confidence in it. He was a better player than Lester before his second and subsequent third ACL. Lester has been incredible so please don’t take that as a slight against him.

He was an aggressive intercept player with a good boot at Adelaide. Vice captain and one of their best players.

I noticed this also. One from Starce particularly glaring, but I think it's because he's presenting as the easy down-the-line option, whereas we really want to be hitting the corridor. He's left open partly because he's a newbie, but also because that's where our opponents would prefer we kick it.

It is the gameplan for our wingers to get really wide to create space and stretch the opp horizontally, and then hopefully we get to ignore them and rush through the corridor.

Its why putting Clug back on wing shifts would be a dumb dumb idea!

What happened to “1-2-3-4 who do you think we barrack for? 5-6-7-8 who do we appreciate?”?
It's a step away from "hey Brisbane, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind".

Need to bring back the chant champions from 2010. I swear the chant champion assigned to our area tried once in the first quarter, got no reaction and then gave up and didn't do anything for the rest of the game. Apparently the club tried this for a second time which I don't remember.

Without Hipwood I like Gallop in the team just because you would think his absolute baseline (ie if he's doing nothing else) is in embarrassing the fellow members of his forward line to bring that pressure and defensive attitude, when perhaps some of them waver in that regard at times.

You don't necessarily have to be old or experienced to lead.
Go with youth - look what it did last year.

How VFL-ish for King to latch onto that one "controversial" decision that went our way.

Apparent silence on the ones that didn't

- the blatantly incorrect fee kick and goal to Lewis
-the after the siren goal to Ginnivan
-the HTB atrocity against Fletcher and that after a series of non-deciisions with Hawthorn players clearly caught red hot.

Nothing like cherry picking to suit a narrative eh Kingy?
Remember the 1983 Qualifying Final - Bernie's greatest quarter - when we got dudded. Karma.

Amon incident was a clear free kick.

Mitch Lewis getting an absolute gift in the second quarter also not spoken about. Yet the Amon call cost them the game apparently.
Spot on havent heard anything about the Mitch lewis decision. Worse was Logan Morris should have got a free kick on the boundary for front on contact in 3rd quarter. Commentators comment well if Lewis was a free kick Logan Morris HAD to be given a free kick but nothing.
