Players certainly can cash in as a free agent

Especially with a number of clubs with young lists on low-priced contracts. Remember, there's a salary floor that's not far below the salary cap. Are the Eagles or Essendon or Richmond 95% as good as Adelaide, Collingwood, Geelong or Brisbane? Not even close. But you have to get up to that floor somehow, which results in paying significant overs to mid-tier free agents (because the actual good free agents are in very high demand and aren't going to sign with the dregs of the comp).

Tbh i dont think any of those guys you mentioned are gettable, other than Howard or maybe Walter if he asks(unlikely).

Happy enough to just go Blight or something as KPD depth and carry on developing our own talls.

I didn’t watch Freo vs WB but it sounds like Busslinger had a stinker. Prior to that he seemed to be trending pretty well for a 21 year old KPD. If Silvagni goes to WB then Buss will get pushed out again. Otherwise he is OOC end of next year which gives us leverage but on the flip side if he starts playing consistent senior footy his price will go up by then.

Being a first round pick WB might ask too much anyway in which case I’d be happy to pick up Blight for nothing and see Brock/Blight/Bazzo thrash it out for the 3rd KPD spot alongside Edwards and Ginbey. Starcevich addition and Hough back to defence would be a pretty strong backline with the dash of McCarthy too.

I've always thought Logan Mcdonald was meh.

Something about him, he lacks intensity and is just a soft gumby or something. Bit like Taberner MKII.



Jed Walter on the other hand.... just missed his teams a huge win to lock away a maiden final, which he will also be left out of.

There was a moment in time when Logan Mac had some currency but I don’t see it now. Neither WA team would be a fit for him.

Agreed on Walter. He was a monster in juniors and especially like that he followed up and tackled hard for a big bloke. Probably has found out he can’t bully the seniors like he did as a junior but a couple of preseasons in the gym like Thilthorpe did and he could be a real weapon. His non-selection would be hurting even more with some academy team mates taken later in his draft playing in Rogers and Read. Especially Read playing in his key forward role ahead of him.

Walter, Waterman and Shanahan would be an imposing tall forward set up with Archer as chop out ruck or behind the ball.

Not to mention the possibilities with pick swaps for points etc involved with GC.

He's got a pretty slight build and was battling for midfield time in a very good team. Hard to really draw many conclusions.

Imagine its because they finished top and aren't playing kids unless the deserve it. Looks like he's had some good games in the SANFL.

I still rate him highly, but he did need to put some size on given his build. Expect he'll still be a very good player in time.

If it’s straight up for our first at roughly pick 22-25 we absolutely do it in a heartbeat. It’s exactly what his current value is. Late first round pick.

Saints would be the ones holding it up but if they really want Flanders they’d be dumb not to take it and use it to bring guys in they want.

Both good points, and you're probably right however I wish him no success unless/until we land him for a packet of chips in a few years time

That would suggest that Draper is staying or it’s definitely not band 1.

They aren’t going to dilute a top pick for Starc.

Clubs wants to keep it's picks for some reason, maybe it is planning on using them to move up or they are expecting one NGA to get a look in at the second round.

If any of our NGAs get bid on in the 2nd round we shouldn't match .
