Imagine overlooking Scott Pendlebury or Elliot Yeo because their brother's were just ordinary state league players 🙃
That’s a bit of a misleading comparison.

I don’t think people are worried about Duursma because his brothers aren't guns.

From what I can tell, there are two concerns that are influencing how people react to him.

1) They perceive that his brothers were super hyped juniors, but got shown up at senior level, and worry the same will happen again.

In reality, Xavier mostly got media hype early on because he was part of an unusually strong draft cohort alongside Rozee and Butters (largely a cheerleader effect) – plus his trademark goal celebrations amplified that.

Zane was highly rated in his draft year but hasn’t shown too much yet. This would be fairly normal for most draftees of his type, but he’s in always going to be in Sheezel’s shadow.

I also think there’s a fair bit of ‘name bias’ going on and, along with Xavier’s celebrations, it causes people to somewhat unfairly attribute a sort of hype to them, compared to if they were Tom, Dave and Mike Smith.

2) People think he’s a flight risk because Xavier requested a trade to Essendon, and there’s rumours Zane might be asking for a trade too.

Again, in reality Xavier was starting to become on the outer at Port so it's not like he bailed at the peak of his career.

Yeah don't over think it too much, I was having a laugh

We seem to be just thrown in.

Richmond key defender Tylar Young is being chased by three rivals including North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs as the Tigers attempt to re-sign their young emerging defenders.

Fellow mid-season pick Jacob Blight missed a games-based trigger on his one-year contract and is yet to be offered a deal by the Tigers.

He impressed early on as a key tall who could play at either end and even pinch-hit in the ruck given his huge tank.

Former high level soccer player Young returned from an ACL reconstruction to play the last seven games in Adem Yze’s senior side and rated in the top 20 defenders in the competition in that time.

West Coast is also asking about his availability, with the Roos and Dogs both keen to strengthen their backlines given their issues this season.
only on a rookie contract apparently, either Young or Blight would be decent pick ups on the cheap end of the draft as looks like 3 clubs into Young.

Wouldn't have been taken at all by people who didn't rate his brother's and thought that meant something
Neither of their brothers even made an afl team .

All the duursma's play at the highest level and the only one drafted interstate requested a trade in contract to go home.

It's not just the go home factor it's the fact their are 10 vic teams that will throw stupid offers at Willem inflating his value.

In the future we wont be able to pay big overs for payers when the salary cap squeeze hits or you end up like GC and GWS shedding players every year

Love your optimism mate, but if you think we're going to get Lachie Neale for a 3rd round pick, regardless of coin, you're in Laa Land.

As for Brisbines salary cap, they have OA, we don't know where Draper will nominate, and Essendon have said Ridley is not getting traded.

After Ross Lyon's great speech about not trading out contracted players, seems highly unlikely they will push their captain out the door.

Ah Chee is gettable.

If it's correct Essendon have offered Starcevich 1.1 million per year for 5, he's out of the market for us I'd imagine.
If L Neale comes it will be on an extended contract as his current 1 expires 2026, offer him 2 years and whatever is a reasonable price, take on the remaining year of his contract so BRI can land their targets.

And as with what BRI did with L Hodge back in he day they paid a 3rd round pick for him.

If we get AH Chee as well we could certainly make sure they get the picks/points they require.

Same with Starcevich, its seems its between WC and BRI where he ends up and if AFL doesn't grant WC exemption request for FA compo not affecting OA comp then we could do a trade with them that is suitable.

Doable if BRI and WC want to do the deal and we take 3 players off you hands and we offer decent picks that they wouldn't get for Starcevich because their FA compo will be wiped out by OA and co. coming in.

I want to like Freo so bad, and obviously will be happy if they go deep into finals over Vic teams, but crap like this makes it hard. We should be banding together to get better deals with fixtures and travel and instead we get this horse twaddle.

Remember the away derby where half our team was seriously injured and we had Ryan running around with half a leg because we had no one on the beach. Meanwhile Walters and co were doing these huge goal celebrations, pretty distasteful.

Shuey (hamstring), McGovern (hamstring), Cripps (ankle), Witherden (concussion), Ryan (knee), Chesser (knee).

Congratulations champions, I suppose that's the only way Walters could get a goal. Pretty sure Freddy did a back flip too. What a bunch of losers.

Rationally West Coast, Fremantle, Adelaide and Port Adelaide should be a unified block off field when it comes to AFL politics

Need to lock-down Barnett again A$AP - before the squeeze comes in.

The eaten up by bidding part I don’t get. If they match our bid, isn’t it their picks they’ve gathered in the 20s that get eaten up?
Picks are eliminated top to bottom, so if they hold say pick 15 and a bid comes, that pick is used before any others. So in this case current pick 19 (which is 22 after compensations are handed out) is used up when bidding, so yes 7 does get pushed back depending on where they receive bids. It will likely be 9 or 10 when draft day comes.
Then that 7 just gets shifted back to 8-9 if those two picks take Uwland and Patterson? So technically we’d have like 8-9 (trade up) and 11 (hawks pick)?
the Hawks pick (natural 11, 13 with compensations) is part of the trade to get pick 7. 13 + 22 + 52 I believe I had in the original post which nets them an extra couple hundred points.

I wouldn't compare the situation with Hodge and Neale.
Hodge was out the door and Brisbane are still in premiership contention.

So you don't think Starcevich would consider the huge offer from Essendon?

It might be a stupid idea but if we are concerned about Duursma.

On draft night we take Cumming’s at 1, then we get on the phone to Essendon and say if you want Duursma you can have him but it’s a straight swap for 5 & 6 otherwise miss out. Gives them **** all time to come back with a counteroffer & they are under pressure to make the call on the spot. If they don’t bite we just back ourselves to get the best out of him or maybe another team comes calling.

Hopefully Richmond then took CDT & Lindsay.

We then grab Sharp & Farrow.

Use all the other picks to Get Suns port pick & use that on Schubert or Barker.

Cummings at 1 would cause chaos & to be honest it doesn’t seem like a massive reach.

End up with Cummings, Sharp, Farrow, Shubert/Barker.
Sure thing Sonny Weaver Jr.
Are we going to make insinuations on the fact that nobody came to Duursma's birthday party?

I watched the 2018 GF at a pub in Freo. There were plenty of Freo fans there but the vast majority that I spoke to were staunchly in the Eagles camp.

There was one Freo fan tosser who was loudly barracking for the Pies, and actually getting in the faces of Eagles fans with over-celebrations. Needless to say he enjoyed the first quarter. But when the Eagles fans got in his face after the result he tried to get physical and was ejected to the cheers of the rest of the crowd.
Watched the 2020 EF at the national and while I tried to wipe my memory of that night with copious amount of booze, one thing I do remember to this day is the late Cam McCarthy barracking for. In fact the bloke looked as devastated at the loss as all the Eagles fans there. Not sure if it was due to TB’s involvement or if he had some on the game

Again, your last point makes no sense. Are we not drafting any vic or interstate elite prospects ever again in the fear that we will have to pay them to keep them? Such a stupid argument for not taking him.

In regard to Xavier leaving as has been mentioned he was on the outer at port and PAFC were more then happy to facilitate the trade. It’s clutching to use him to draw a conclusion that Willem is a flight risk.

I thought reported over the weekend it was down to BRI & WC

So rumours floating around is that Brisbane want jordan ridley .

To make this happen Brisbane is going to get draiper band 1 compo so essendon get pick 7 compo . Then essendon give ridley to Brisbane for less than they would normally probably just a future 1st.

Essendon with all their cap also want starcivich as part of the deal offering him big money to change his mind as west coast is his preferred destination.

Smart by all parties if it goes down like that.

Draper band 1. (Wins $)

Starcevich (wins $) and F1 for Ridley (gets to where he wants)

Essendon win more out of it but Ridley is an upgrade on Starcevich if they can get him out on the park.

I'll probably just give up on footy if Carlton get Band 1 compensation for Jack Silvagni, the most 'okay' player in history.

Has our list Management team lost the plot? If Ryan is held to his contract, Cripps, Chesser and Cole sign the deals offered,. How many Main list spots are we left to fill.

We have McCarthy, Hutchinson, Brock, Maric and Newton as Rookies (McCarthy offered a 2 year deal, Main List?) (Newton offered a 1 year deal, Main List?) Then 3 NGA's in Livingstone, Champion and Dewar?

Ryan will leave one way or another. If STK are dickheads he’ll probably end up at Essington. Chesser is more likely to go than stay (I hope he stays) and it’s odd the club hasn’t announced extensions for Cole and Cripps so they may be waiting to formally offer those contracts.
