Top 5 in this draft are very good, but compromised. Would have liked one of Annable, Uwland, Patterson and even Dean this year if it was open.

From early rumours, next year is not so compromised and an extra early (top 5) pick next could be of interest. Would rather St Kilda's for Ryan.
Doubt that will happen. Whisper is that St Kildas 2026 second pick is what is being offered.

Sorry I thought the players you're talking about were the ones drafted when we were good but had a poor draft hand because we were good and/or traded for the likes of Redden and Kelly.

I feel it's players in that age bracket that are the ones we're lacking, not the ones drafted since we shat the bed.
That's a good point

Warner doesn't want to end up like Tim Kelly where he comes to us on a big deal, and supporters expect him to start winning Brownlows because of how much it cost us to get him, and then he gets tagged every week because the opposition can afford to tag him because he is the only damaging midfielder we would have. No point tagging him at Sydney because all that does is give more space to Heeney and Gulden. Thats why he is not tagged at Sydney. But he would be tagged every week if he played for us. He wants to wait until he is just the highly paid cherry on top in a few years time (if our midfield develops) instead of being expected to be the whole cake and the cherry on top.

Another measured response. Harley won't be worth tagging like teams have been?

Chess won't make it if he leaves.

The blues will discard him the moment he starts sh*tting the bed in multiple games or gets injured again.

At least here he'd still get 1st team action and more time to develop.

If he goes the Willie route then good luck to him, turned out well for Mr Gatorade.

I think opposition coaches would see Warner as more of a threat than HR at this stage going into 2026. HR has shown flashes of A grade talent. But he doesn't produce that for the majority of games in the majority of games right at this moment. I am not knocking him, he is only a second year player at this point and still developing. So if i was Warner i would be thinking it is more likely than not that i would be the one getting tagged in our midfield if he played for us in 2026. That might change for 2027 if HR has a break out year next year.

Have a think about it. Warner could have signed a long term deal with us or Sydney. It was in his financial best interest to sign a long term deal with one of us. But he went for two years instead. He could get injured in those two years and it could cost him a lot of money if he did. That says he plans to leave Sydney and come home but doesn't want to do it right now. Even to the point where he is incurring significant financial risk by delaying leaving. Why do you think that is?

The good news is that Chesser is not a FA, therefore Carlton will need to trade for him. No point in threatening to walk him to the PSD!!!

Carlton will likely get 2 x R1 picks in FA compensation. Pick 9 after Oscar FA becomes pick 10 (band 1 for TdK) and end of R1 so around pick 22 (band 2 for SOS). They have Harry Dean (F/S) who is fast looking like a top 10 pick or worst a top 15 pick that could well be swallowed up to match a bid. So from a club that looked like it had poor picks, they suddenly have a decent hand and will be a points player in November.

Plenty of options for us to deal with them on a trade.

Didn't expect a supposed "bidding war" for Chesser lmao.
He's uncontracted, and was firmly on the chopping block not long ago, so it's an interesting scenario.
I hope we don't get baited into a longer contract if Carlton improve their offer.
The years part make me nervous... Hopefully it's only 2 years max, but I was expecting just a 1 year extension. Interest from other parties probably changing that.
He had a pretty decent (promising even?) end to the season, but I wouldn't want us overcomitting based on a very small sample size.

Rhino on HBG

Predicting we should get Starcevich in. We ain’t putting much work into Erasmus anymore. Dev a possibility.

We might move pick 2 into next years draft…….
Doesn’t really make sense to trade pick 2 into next years draft, because unless we’re trading with ourselves the future pick can only be 2 or worse next year.

But the more I think about it I conclude that we can’t rule out the possibility of future trading with ourselves given the muppets that are in charge

I’d hope the Hawks picks over Blues picks **** up would deter us from trading in future picks if we can avoid it, and certainly for a pick as valuable as #2.
It’s just too hard to reliably predict how a team will go the next year, and if we’re trading out pick 2 we’ll be banking on the other team being awful. Which poses a lot more downside risk for us than upside.

Yeah it’s what he predicts the club might do in the offseason. Didn’t say he had intel but said this is a prediction of what he thinks they might do as this draft is weak and it’s not what he would do.
So he's basically just doing what 99.9% of Bigfooty nuffs do, and making shit up

Agreed don’t overcommit.
If you look at the larger sample size he is either injured or a spud.

Even the small sample size of the last 4 weeks I think some are overrating, due to the low expectations.

If the offers are similar, Chesser will be staying.
Media blow up for mine (probably Manager driven)

He seems a very loyal type and Carlton are in the same predicament we are (in some way their future may be more bleak)

I'd bet Dark Sharks account on it.
He'll also get a Prince Albert if it happens.

I don’t want to trade Campbell but if he requests a trade and the 1R of the draft next year is protected I’d tell Carlton it’s pick 10 and your F2 for pick 13, our F4 and you must take Owies back now that you have the cap space.

I would 100% be prepared to redraft Campbell through the PSD if this isn’t agreed to and I’d make Campbell aware of that.
