We can not win finals with clogging list with mediocre player like Motlop . He is not our need . We can pick better players than him in the draft . We should only pursue A grader in trade .
There is no A grader for those positions to get this year unfortunately and Port don't have the draft capital to do so. Next year there is though. Or 2027 when there's a crap tonne of players who are restricted or unrestricted free agents.

You’re using career stats, I was referring to both players most recent season. My stats were accurate and represented properly.

The season after which we cut the player averaging more goals than Motlop.

Motlop played 23 games in 2025, McEntee played 6 in 2025
Motlop played 63 games in career, McEntee played 52

There's literally nothing in the 2025 comparison. I'd take Motlop over McEntee everyday. He is not the standard we should compare to but thats besides my point.

Then we do not need to unnecessarily bring duds to Port . We can pick Pickett or someone with potential in this draft and then can touch base at mid season draft if we requires it . We have Berry , Richard's , Sam Power, Barnett , Cochranes , DBJ , Anastasia and others . We just need to give them opportunities and see who belongs at AFL level and weed out non performers .

The problem we have is Carr has been dealt a sh!t for his first draft.
People have called for players to be cut of which he has.
Now he needs to refill the list with not much on trade value in regards to his draft haul.
Yet people are already complaining about what he might bring in and comparing us to the saints.
Had we had a 1st this draft I believe Carr would possibly used it to get player A.
However he can't.
Just remember Carr didn't create this mess but I do believe he we get us on the right track.
Now let get to work and all rebuild our once great club

FWIW, if there was any draft in which it'd be ideal for him to have a bad hand, it'd be this

I'd happily take Motlop for a third rounder. He's played some good games.

Something popped up on my feed. Bickley reckons crows should trade Scholl for Hollands. Reckons it's win win. My question is, would anyone here trade Drew for Hollands? I would and think it's win win as well.

I'd also have a crack at Cook from the Crows. Not getting a game there but makes our starting forward 50.

If you gave him the choice between Luko and our first rounder this year, it would be interesting to hear his thoughts, given how poor and compromised this draft apparently is.
I mean hindsight is a wonderful thing. If Luko can stay fit I'd still take his talent over any in the first round this year.

Not opposed to Jesse Motlop on the cheap at all. Feels like he's been around forever but he's still only 21, has plenty of room to grow. Guys like Willie Rioli and Liam Ryan weren't even in the league at 21. Stephen Milne didn't play his first game until he was 21.

Soldo for Motlop done deal
That, I’d probably do
To be fair I'd trade Soldo for current day Daniel Motlop.

Since Josh was in list management for the 2024 season and given the choice to take Luko or a first rounder this year and chose Luko (so far it has been a colossal **** up) I think we have to assume he's happy to have chosen a tissue paper forward over pick 7

Was Josh in list management for 2024 season? I am not so sure. The succession plan was only developed post-trade period as far as I know so I highly doubt it was Carr's decision from the coaches side.

They were planning for him to take over well before the announcement in Feb 2025, even to say there was wheels in motion in 2023 for it to happen - there's absolutely no way they would just yolo spending a million dollars of his playing list on someone he isn't interested in.

As it stands I am very uninterested in having him wasting space on our list and in our salary cap

Yeah but at the same time the board and footy committee didnt have a date on which to give Carr the reigns. In November 2024, there were discussions around what the pass mark would be to give Ken another contract. It was in the new year once George joined the board in December that things start taking a turn and there was a collective that decided to put the succession plan in place.

I'm guessing it's somewhere in between our statements

Warren has alluded to the fact the wheels were in motion well before his time on the board (early 2024)

Carr was earmarked as the next coach for sure before Warren got on the board.

But when he was going to take over was up in the air until December/January this year. So whether Carr had involvement in Luko's recruitment knowing he'd takeover in 2026, I very much doubt that was the case but if it was, then he needs to live with the decision.

People acting like Motlop is 25+. The kid is only 21 and has already played 63 games. He definitely has potential. More than happy to give him a shot. Straight swap for Soldo is not as crazy as it seems, they need another ruck on their list now.

Soldo for Motlop would be good for Port just to get the bloke and his contract off the books regardless of how effective Motlop may or may not be for us, but I can't see the blue baggers coming to the party on that deal.

IMO Soldo is no better, or just as likely even as good as Carlton's current back up ruckman (Pittonet?), so the club may have to face the prospect that he may have little to no trade value even if offered up as steak knives in an attempt to sweeten a potential trade.

A lot of the blokes we should be using as carrots to get back in this or next year's draft had years so bad if they had worth last year they may as well have negative worth this

Lord, Soldo, Mead and a few others all regressed so incredibly far.
