Might as well have a crack for JUH and Tarrant Thoms as well then.......

Depends what the issues are. For anyone to sit here and definitively say either way is a bit dumb

As far as Im aware he isn't anything like Thomas at all so pretty silly comparison. JUH will definitely have clubs looking and doing diligence on. He may be too much hassle but Hollands might not

Why would we expose our young playing group to a fringe player like Holland who has drug issues ? Pass for me

Watch Geelong get him for peanuts and turn him around
You spelled "Hide his drug use" wrong.

WC are a risk adverse club anyway.
Can't see us going near him.
So much this.

We're probably the most play it safe conservative club in the league. Have been since day one and still are and require a bigger refresh than we've had to change this mentality to be trend setting entity.

In saying that, having a massively young group of emerging stars mean I do not want people who are rumoured to favour the coco. They can stay the hell away from our group.

Does Flanders count as 'senior body in the midfield' or are still looking for those Steele/Beale types? Or are we viewing him more as a flanker who can play mid?
Flanders isnt a flanker, hes an inside mid who has been forced to play elsewhere just to have a spot in the side.

It's obvious the issues are drugs.

You definitely think clubs will definitely be looking at JUH whose on $800 000 a year?
A lot of judges reckon he won't get picked up and he's a lot better player than Hollands.

I've said Geelong will probably pick up Hollands for a pick in the fifties.

Can't see us going near him TBH.

What "due diligence" would that be?
When a club as bad as Carlton are trying to push him out under contract, it tells you something.
Assess the situation and see if we think we can manage it to where Hollands would be a net positive for us?

What do you think due diligence means?

Maybe, maybe not

That's how I see him as well. I was curious as getting him would likely shape the Ryan trade and our draft strategy.

Two other clubs couldn't manage him.
With the greatest of respect to our group, it isn't like he's gone into a club known for benchmark standard leadership. We aren't that either. Too young and in limbo.
With the exception of being a completely different location with a clean break from his known associates, I don't see us being a strong fit with the strong and established leadership.

Collingwood, Geelong, Brisbane? Yep absolutely. I'd back their structures in to be likely to have an impact.

Looking at Flanders stats it's certainly a case of role. Sometimes he gets a gig where he is in the clearances, and importantly centre clearances, then he'll go a month without a centre clearance as they play Rowell, Anderson, Touk, Swallow, types and he can't get a go in there and goes from 10+ contested possessions to a couple and 20 uncontested when he's put back to half back.

A new location, with different people at our club vs the people at Carlton.

We may believe we can manage him, thats why we should be doing our due diligence
What magic bullet are you hoping for here?

It is a known fact via a court of law that he has been a known cocaine user.
He has been out for personal issues and repeat issues this year. Whatever happened between round 6 where Voss gave him credit for bouncing back and now is clearly just not a kid suffering from some mental health issues. That wouldn't cause a club to want a player out, much less a young potential A grader.

So. What gives you any credit or hope we're the right environment for him aside from geographical isolation?

Also worth reiterating it isn't just Carlton, it's Carlton AND the Gold Coast.

Wish we would have sat duggan down in his exit interview and said we will have 5 players ahead of you next year as medium defender. If you don't want to be starting in the wafl then look around for more opportunities
Has a team ever traded out 2 captains in one off-season. It'd be a year of firsts for us
(Yes I realise Oscar isn't being traded but close enough)

What the club learned through the Ben Cousins era is just how hard drug dependancy is to overcome.

Ben was the most determined footballer I've ever seen. He would run till he puked and then run some more. Our captain, a star of the competition and one of the highest paid footballers of his time. And despite everything that was at stake, how mentally strong he was to be able to work so hard at training and on the football oval, even he couldn't turn it around.

If Hollands is a drug addict, I doubt we can turn him around if Carlton couldn't.

I think Duggan's days are numbered but he's a good resource to have at the club. Half of Bacchus Marsh has followed him to Perth. He's almost the poster boy of Victorian kid moves to Perth and loves it.

Wouldn’t mind him getting in the ear of another Bacchus Marsh free agent…

have no idea how we achieve it but we need a senior mid that racks up 25-30 every week consistantly and can help with the development of our young mids.
We cannot rely on Yeo to be this and or even take the risk that Yeo could be this.
We must trade a good player in the midfield. Our young mids need serious help.

I agree

He just can't be a coke head.

Unless that's coca cola in which case play on.
