We dont "really want draft picks". We have draft picks with the option of splitting those picks to get more picks if we need to.

We want and need quality senior players because we dont have any.

Most teams arent going to let go of quality senior players for a pick between 10-20 in a notoriously weak draft.
That...is our conundrum.

Saints i can see being the pain in the ass here but maybe you guys or us throw in a sweetener with pick swaps between the three of us im sure it could work out.

Saints really want Ryan, we really want Marshall, you guys really want draft picks.
Seems like a win for all.
That's probably how it works out. We swap future thirds with the Saints or the Hawks' R2 with the Saints' R3

Sounds like you guys need a pick in the 20's for Ryan, we have a pick that'll end up in the 20's for Rowan Marshall.

Just saying!
Ryan is contracted so it's pick 8 with a second coming back or he stays

Happy to trade Ryan. He wants to go whether we like it or not. He is 30 and injury prone and therefore not a key plank in the timeframe we are working on (i.e. 3 - 5 year horizon). He is not worth pick 8. Lets be honest. But he is worth something useable. 3rd rounder in a weak draft is borderline useable. And he is under contract which adds a premium. Something in the 20's is acceptable.

By himself is Ryan worth pick 8? No

But he is under contract, and Saints are offering him 4 years on decent coin so they want him and we should play hard ball

Pick 8 for Ryan + R2 pick

or Saints F1 for Ryan + F2

Use his contract status and their offer to leverage trading up what we have

No! We want Marshall!!! We don’t need you.Cut out the middle man!

Elijah Hollands……..I think that we are at the point where we need to take risks, and it is no doubt a risk.
But that boy can play.
Really, with such a young group would be a disaster bringing that kind of possible influence on our group.

Massive pass and doubt it has any legs.

I like it. The one thing i'd change is Starcevich. I just think we are loaded with defensive flankers. It's also Hough's best position. If we paid a little more i'd be happy to go Alex Davies instead.

Great summary of where we are at though. Great work.
I've read that one of the reasons Starcevich is looking at moving is because he wants to play more midfield time which ain't happening at Brisbane. I reckon he'd make a pretty good mid.

He would not.

He's never been a mid, and never been a possession winning player at Lions. I did the count and posted a while back, but he has a serious lack of games in his career over 20 touches. It's a single digits number from memory.

Honestly even Geelong first on traded for ryan would be a bad deal . That pick will end up after 30 which makes it a speculative pick .

Saints would be happy they trade marshall and get a know quantity. Ryan who has been all Australian, has at least 3 years left and puts bums on seats .
We aren't trading in picks above 20 to take them to the draft, we are gathering these for points to trade for the GC pick or trade into next year. I doubt we take more than 4 players at this draft plus our NGas

Lockdown defenders generally don't run around picking up copious quantities of possessions.

Liam Ryan died from age related illness not long ago, I was at his funeral

A win for all? No chance Geelong would go for it then, they have to dominate every trade by a mile. You had a better chance of a fair trade with Dodoro era Bombers.

Nah man. Not this one. Let’s not introduce a cocaine user to a very young group.

The risk is far greater than the reward

Guys, Liam Ryan’s twin sons have requested a trade to the saints, but they’re both 28 years old and past their best. 3rd rounders at best

Liam Ryan came out of retirement last year to play football. The man was 76 years old. Liam Ryan always used to lie about his age.
