Love how our league supposedly values equalisation yet giving support to the worst team ever is controversial and geelong making yet another prelim is just grand.
"ohhh dont you just love it?...Pies & Cats hosting Prelims at the G is good for footy"
Every Vic media nuffy over the next fortnight.

One of my offices is across the road from Ikea. On Wednesday I decided to pop in as we need a new stand alone cabinet.

Anyway climb the escalator into the showroom and get smacked in the face by a pungent smell which becomes abundantly clear either someone has shat their pants or has shat in a display toilet. As I've been there a few times I know the shortcuts to GTFO of there, as I'm making my getaway I see a middle aged Karen looping out at the staff coz she "just wanted to leave and can't find her way out". The schadenfraude of watching her suffer in the faeces stench of a maze was the highlight of my working week.
Why does this read like a metaphor for being drafted to North?

I irrationally dislike Geelong more than most, probably the team I'd least like to see in the GF, but to be fair they their success is almost all their own. Plenty of late draftees, rookies and recycled players out there doing their part in important finals. They attract talent well, trade well, develop players well. Brisbane are the team with the handouts out there.

They [Geelong] routinely travel the least in a competition where travel is becoming an increasingly significant determinant factor in the era of soft cap austerity.

They also consistently receive far easier fixtures than would typically be expected.

Most teams would overachieve if provided with similar circumstances.

If Crom can't get it done after finishing the season on top of the ladder, playing against dad's army on their home deck in front of all their fans...

There's zero chance they do anything remotely interesting in September, let alone on the MCG. Hope it was worth it Rankine
Rankine wasn't the difference. They looked miles off it.

Collingwood v Geelong GF would be vomit inducing
It's kind of funny how we've basically ended up with the worst possible scenario when you considered all the permutations a few weeks ago. I quipped early in the 4th quarter during the Pies Dees game that luck was finally turning against them, and I swear since then every single thing has gone their way. I apologise for that.

I think it comes down to coaching: Scott and McRae still a rung above Nicks and Fagan. They also happen to be the two sides with the most advantages, who seem to be black holes for every good player on the market, who are constantly up there. There's also the frustration/envy of us being mired to the bottom.

But I should probably detach myself a bit, and my lack of interest in that match up might help.

I think you won’t be alone in giving the grand final a miss if it does end up being those two. We had an interesting grand final last year in terms of the match up, the year before was a good game at least, but yeah, this year won’t be all that attractive if that’s what eventuates. That and if (god forbid) Fremantle somehow get that far 😆

I'll still watch, but at home this time. Away from Pies and Cats fans lol. But without a team I really want to win, it won't be much fun.

Still a lot to play out though, I do still get the sense Collingwood may falter in the prelim. I've almost ruled out Crows and Lions based on those performances though. They were miles off the pace, nowhere near it.

Geelong looked imperious tonight. I can't see anyone stopping them.

Honestly I'd be happy for Freo to get their first over either of those two winning again.

The thing is, the Dockers best footy can beat anyone, but they are probably still a "on their day" type of team.

But they may as well throw everything at this Finals series and see how far they can go.

Bollocks to that…… a cats v dockers GF and I’ll be wrapping myself in pussy, embracing pussy like there’s no tomorrow, living, breathing and inhaling pussy for 2 hours straight without a single moments break and even if the pussy performance turns out to be less than I hoped for and its an experience that drys up like Lake Monger in a very hot summer, I would never ever for a single moment, regret choosing pussy over Cockburn!

I don't think they're quite on the level of Geelong, but who knows if they can find another gear.

All the benefits of the non Vics (distinct HGA over visiting sides) plus all the benefits of the Vics (‘away’ games in your backyard, no travel) all rolled up in a ‘breaking the salary cap but the former Geelong men now running the league said it was fine’ package.

The mind boggles at how they’ve stayed good for so long, just what is their secret!?

Victorians: "Vic bias is all in your heads, none of us like it when other Vic teams do well"

Also Victorians:

Last 14 years is an interesting cut off.

Wonder why they started from 2012 to now?

Wouldn’t have anything to do with both prelims being played at the MCG in each of 2008,09,10 & 11 - 4 years in a row. But the 6th time in 18 seasons doesn’t quite have the same ring to it

For the record, ignoring the 2020 & 21 seasons due to COVID implications meaning no finals in Victoria, there’s only been one season where there was no prelim at the MCG - 2015. Prior to that you need to go back to 2006 to find another MCG free prelim week

So twice in 20 years without an MCG prelim compared to 6 with both prelims there

Headed to the game tonight, will be a Matt Rowell lead Suns fan this evening.

The rain should benefit Gold Coast?

Hopefully one day Geelongs 'secret sauce' will be revealed in all its glory, along with the dark alternate AFL/(VFL) agenda that always bubbles away beneath the glossy shimmering mirage of an equal national code. Never forget how The GF was locked into the MCG for 50 years in a hastily rushed through manoeuvre in the corrupt corridors of power.

Meanwhile Geelong's game last night was their 18th Prelim final since 1990. Their 14th Prelim in the last 18 seasons. The Cats have converted their previous 12 Preliminary Finals into six Grand Finals and four Premierships. Mitch Duncan and Patrick Dangerfield both played the 28th Final of their career this weekend.

Geelong’s current Finals winning streak, is four, stretching from the 2022 Qualifying Final to the present. The Cats have only won four or more consecutive Finals matches on three occasions in the Club’s history, with five wins their longest ever Finals streak (2007 Qualifying Final to 2008 Preliminary Final).

The Cats winning percentage is 62, in Finals at the MCG, dating back to their 2004 Semi Final against Essendon. Geelong have won 21 or 34 matches at the venue over the past two decades.
This was the Cats 10th Preliminary Final appearance under Chris Scott, in a span dating back 14 years 2011 when the master coach took over the top job.

This was the 5th Preliminary Final meeting between Geelong and the Brisbane Lions. The Cats have won the past two clashes (2020, 2022). winning percentage across the last 20 matches against Brisbane. This is the Cats second highest win rate against any team across the previous 20 meetings, only holding a better record against Essendon (85%).

Little surprise they beat Brisbane really? But hmm what is their secret sauce?
(apologies, this article was from Geelong Cats Website a year ago - some has been lost in translation/conversion. But you get the drift, incredible list of Cat's finals achievements, almost too good to be true.)

I know we like to think they are being nefarious but it’s most like that living right next to Melbourne with easy access while providing a lifestyle that appeals to a lot of players, and a cheaper cost of living so they can take a slight discount? Coupled with a lot of stability in management and consistent plucking late picks who turn out to be very good? Oh and being bastards to deal with at the trade table but somehow always seem to get their way with opposition clubs?
