The only reason I see us doing a deal like this is as a precursor to another deal. Maybe we're happy not to have 1 and/or 2 but want more presence in the top 10/20?
Agreed but would likely be included in a trade for player/s. If that’s the case surely the Hawks pick could be around the same value anyway. Which we could find out in 3 hours.

How many picks can we have? We could easily have 1,2 and 8 (power/suns pick) as it is.

The clubs has been very vocal in we don’t want to get younger so you’d assume we are bringing in a balance of picks and mature age players.

But who knows with this list team, they kicked the can down the road last year with trading a current pick rather then a future pick for Baker.

If these discussion are being had with Carlton hopefully it’s just to help pump up the pick 2 value

My very strong preference is to keep picks 1 & 2.

Happy to trade the others to get up the order or fo players, but anything else would have to be so compelling that we all could see the benefit.

For a draft the has a top 3, then thins out we would need a Walters type player and a low 1st or future 1st, or 2x1st and a f1st.

Please WC take a self interest approach !
Why would we take a self interest approach when we can support Carlton in getting top end talent in the door?

Could be a 3 way trade with Curnow going to GC? Something like the below

WCE get 8 and 10 (Port 1R and TDK compo, lossing pick 2

We could then move our 2nd rounders to next year as we wouldn't need them. Draft night we could even snag a late 1st rounder for our first pick of night 2

You’d hope not we are in the box seat for pick 8 as it is.

1,2,8 looks a lot better.

Got to stop getting attached to players like Sharp/Grlj/Cumming/Duursma, same mistake as last year. We'll trade back again to get Farrow, put it in the book we've fallen in love with him.
We aren't the only one. Have heard from a recruiter that he may well be the draft bolter well inside top 10. Tigers dons both interested.

By himself is Ryan worth pick 8? No

But he is under contract, and Saints are offering him 4 years on decent coin so they want him and we should play hard ball

Pick 8 for Ryan + R2 pick

or Saints F1 for Ryan + F2

Use his contract status and their offer to leverage trading up what we have

This is the trade I want to see if Ryan goes.

I think we will know in about 3 hrs with GC being knocked out of their 1st finals campaign.
Come Monday there will be some serious leaking, plots and plays for Flanders and Davies imo.
Who will be the winner?
Hope WC have 1 of them on our team come trade time.

I have faith that our new recruiting team have a plan and are not the same recuitment team who got us into this mess.

If you like being unhappy living in the past well thats your call.

Ok I'll bite - I'm well aware that this is new group of guys (mostly) and I don't hold anyone responsible for the sins of their predecessors...but what on earth has given you any faith that this recruitment team have any idea what they are doing?

Aren't you the 'wacky mega trades guy'?

Does the switch just flick and you go into super mega dreamland mode where anything is possible and the Eagles are brewing a master-stroke involving shedding over the hill hasbeens and bringing in talented young guns that previously appeared to be in no way obtainable?

You're right, that does sound much more appealing than horrible, sobering reality.

Surely we can squeeze a player of worth out of them, with $$ and tenure. It should be our absolute first demand. The word I have is that there are several players looking for greener pastures.

Ryan is contracted so the saints will have forgo that mantra come negotiation time.

in previous years there has been a method to the madness with the pick splits/drops

dropping down to nab sheed (and generating an extra pick)
splitting for reuben and hewett
splitting 3 (i'm in the dud deal camp, but at the end of the day Baker will likely win our B&F and could easily be our captain next year. plus the resultant draft was great anyway)

this year i just dont see any reason to split/drop down. take the two best talents that fill needs (Sharpma), and then climb back up the order if we're keen on schubert or farrow or if cumming falls. dont get cute with it - we dont have the list spots to worry about bringing in any more picks than we already have

plus, you need the top enders to build a side around. 7 A graders, 10 B graders, and 5 C graders can win a flag. 22 B graders cant.

The Tigers and Don's are just doing a reverse CDT back to us.
Reckon it's Carlton that'll have the most interest. TDK replacement and they'll need another highly regarded tall if Curnow does leave.

Richmond don't really need anymore talls, other than a true ruckman.

Essendon have taken heaps of talls recently, they need mids.

Edit: Just realised you were talking about Farrow. Will be interesting to see where he goes.

ROB interested? Another HB with midfield potential. Could end up at Essendon.

Is Silvagni actually any chance of Band 1? I haven't really paid much attention to that
Supposedly the offer is similar salary to Battle who barely scraped into band 1 last year, but Silvagni will be nearly 2 years older than Battle was. So not really

Why would we take a self interest approach when we can support Carlton in getting top end talent in the door?

Compare this to Geelongs take in refusing to trade with us because we were a "rival" and "why would they help a rival team get better".
