Gifted Blues pick 3 last year and now trading pick 2?
Blues must be laughing.

Our club has blamed our predicament on too many years making finals and not having access to top 10 talent. Now that we have accesss to top 10 picks, we're trading them away.

And how good was that pick 3 this season?

Not sure that's even relevant.

Who's to say Jagga would have injured his knee if he played with us?
Who's to say we would have even drafted Jagga if we kept 3?

The guy we traded it for won our BnF and Shanahan probably isn’t on the list if we don’t trade it. Shit call during trade period but it worked out fine.

You can't assess a trade after one season. Jagga was the best player in the open draft. We picked up a B&F winner and future captain, hopefully a future Coleman medalist, and three other handy players. If it works out like a poor man's version of the Judd trade, both clubs will be happy.

Uwland and Patterson.

Oh you mean available to us? Trick question, there isn’t one because this draft is weak and the three best pure mids aren’t available to us. Rowell and Anderson were highly rated in their draft year and are now top 10 mids in the comp. You don’t get that in every draft and even less likely in an underwhelming draft class like this year unfortunately.
Annable is the only of the 3 that is capable of playing on the inside at AFL level. Uwland at his ceiling is Gulden on the wing and Patterson is a prototype modern HBF

Fair enough. Duursma is even less of a sure thing as a midfielder though right? Sharp plays the inside role but his ceiling isn’t even close to what Rowell’s was at the same age. Assuming Duursma and Sharp are the mids posters want with picks 1 & 2.

Alex Davies would be perfect for our list.
Honestly, there's snowballs chance in getting him, but he's the right age (23) and style (contested beast) for us.

Hard to see him leaving given the academy links and midfield promotion in recent weeks.

Duursma isn’t Sharp or Greeves, but he’s shown he’s capable of going inside and winning the contested ball at his age level. You’d sort of bank that that side of his game improves with time, confidence and physical development rather than skill, if he puts on a kilo or two each off season for the first few years he’ll be an absolute weapon both inside and out.

Drafting Duursma and Sharp at 1 & 2 is basically praying to end up with 60-70% of Bont and 80% of Rowell

Sorry the other focus to what you said being; Duursma will be the best ‘midfielder’ aside from Annable out of all 5, assuming development is linear and people give them the time they need. His athletic profile and skills at his height is not normal and something you see in the likes of Bont. I’m not saying he’ll be even half the player, but that’s the direction if you were to break him down into his big upsides at face value. Annable will be the best mid of the draft class imho, we’d be taking him if he wasn’t tied. Patterson I don’t see moving into the midfield for a long time, but do see him playing out of the back half day 1; his athletic traits are monstrous. Sharp is the lowest ceiling but probably the middle ground floor. He can likely contribute more than Patterson day 1 depending on system, but his style of player is clearly being phased out of the game more for capable balanced big bodies like you’ve seen Rowell become. Greeves and Robey look more likely to be modern big bodies than Sharp imo

We need someone like Ryan daniels to report on this pick 2 trade to carlton so that wce get such bad response to it that they call it off before it's too late

Robey is definitely intriguing, will be very interesting to see where he goes in the draft

Before last years pick split was official, fans were rioting lol, the club doesn’t care because we turn up each week and they continue to make loads of money, which is the thing they actually care about unfortunately.

This.

Unfortunate for Jagga Smith, and of course plenty of time for him to turn into the jet that many project him to be, but at this very moment, the decision to split the pick is so far ahead it's not even funny.

Yep bad timing for us with Davies and Erasmus hitting their straps late in the season. Kinda like Sheldrick last year. Going to be hard pressed to get them out of good teams now would’ve thought. But we have plenty of trade capital and cap space so who knows

If pick 2 this year could get us the Blues Rd1 next year with something else of value this year I'd defo be keen.

Well worth entertaining the inquries about 2 more broadly, even if just to see what various clubs would pay. Know the trauma some here have after last year, but we can keep the sheets dry for a couple of months surely.

It’d need to be something substantial. I don’t want to keep kicking the can down the road. We need talent NOW

Not saying it's definite, but the man who broke our clubs pick swap last year before any media caught wind of it just posted on our Bluemour thread with another head scratcher involving ur mob.

Thx for blowing up our thread. Drop a Eagles are going to do another dumb trade with the blues in here 🤣

Relaxed Mad Men GIF

now I have 10 pages of whether we need Mitch McGovern or not to read……🤨

We know Davies is an inside contested player and the perfect fit.
Where do our player ratings crew see Flanders?
Is he a balanced mid, outside mid or can he be inside mid we need or is he too small in frame?
He is an elite HB which we know from 2024 season?
