We can get a future 2nd for an uncontracted Ryan next year if we want, the point of trading him out under contract would be that it actually benefits us now, because we could definitely use another season of him in the forward line given the other options are spud owies, a 34 year old cripps and a bunch of young unproven guys.

If the Saints don't want to offer anything worthwhile for him this year then just say sorry Liam you'll have to see out your contract. No one does our club any favours so why should we keep giving them out?

Ryan's value decreases to a F3 if he stays with us another season.

I don't know why people are fretting over Ryan and Chesser.

Ryan may be our best kick forward of centre and finished 2nd in the goal kicking. But doesn't chase, completely unfit (never has been). Despite a young team could only finish 8th in the BnF. Was awesome in his day, but I think he's a poor leader and toxic for culture.

Chesser, what's he done? Has potential, and shown glimpse in the last 3 games after 4 years. I'd argue that Grego, Gross and Hall have shown as much if not more in half the time. It's disappointing but let's move on

The problem with losing Chesser is the amount of investment put into him it sucks that once he finally puts some games on the board at AFL level which I thought showed good signs he makes a decision to leave. I think he was easily worth investing in with another contract to see if he could go on with it.

Just a set back we didn't need.

It’s not the worry of losing them, it’s the return for players in that age bracket which we struggle in already. Flip them for 2 best 22 players and in positions of need. More future picks with our current list and draft hand that we are expected to have is not much value imo.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a bigger play here with Chesser and Carlton... Perhaps Cripps is wanting to come back to WA.

Package our assistance package and Chesser maybe?

I would be surprised.

Whether it sucks or not, players of chesser history and performance do not attract much when out of contract. We were literally calling for his delisting in July. Hardly screams Cripps is coming to WA.

Yep it’s time we stand up and use this sort of leverage. PSD threat too.
Brisbane are getting that many free hits with FA, NGA and Farher son if they want to be Kents about this and we call their bluff I doubt the footy industry is going to give a shit
Really like Annable at pick 1, and happy for Brisbane not to match

Except M Reid should have been top 6 last year but he slipped to Freo, lack of pace apparently…….the better question would be where would Bo Allan, Berry, Oliver and Hynes sit. Easily all first round but I doubt they sit top 5. Probably struggle to sit top 10 if you include the academy and F/S picks.

Yep good points.

Oliver is overall a better player than and more versatile than Lindsay, just not quite as good of a kick.

Berry (and Kako) were better prospects than Dovaston.

Allan there’s not really a player comparison I see in the top 20 so more difficult to compare.

Hynes is a hard comparison too. Maybe NHH in some ways.

No he is a free agent next year . He would fetch minimum band 5 which would be early 40s . Band 4 late 30s .

in reality it's a 10 pick upgrade in the 2nd round if we let him go this year vs having ryan stay for a year .

Saints need to understand this and offer us something that will actually benefit us

He's contacted so a r1 upgrade or we keep him

Was wondering where Tunstill from the Lions is at so went and had a look on the Brisbane board and came across this on him & Dev.

Would be happy to have Tunstill.
Yeah both OOC.

Both would be best 22 or great depth imo. I was on the Dev wagon but they way he screwed us over last time by the sounds of it, I’d also be happy to walk away.

For those that have seen Tunstill, would he be an upgrade to Chesser?

Good post mate.

But thats the business of AFL isn't it? We invest in players and some shine and some don't. We have been more inclined to over invest with players like Petch.
Chesser has asked to be traded so he simply does not want to be here and giving him more money than he has earnt at this point would be ridiculous. Let him go and move on and invest in those who want to be here.

Sure, doesn't mean we as fans have to be happy about it.

Interesting, makes it sound like a done deal with one or both WA clubs.
