Spitballing on what I wouldn’t mind us doing this trade/draft based on a healthy dose of wishful thinking

Assuming the AFL take pity on us and agree to our assistance package meaning-
• 2x additional Cat B spots with the ability to prelist our NGA players
• 2x additional rookie list spots
• An end of R1 priority pick
• An additional 2026 R2 priority pick tied to our finishing position that must be traded for an established player
• Our request to not dilute any FA compensation if we add a FA to be denied

Trade out -
• Allen in return for pick 2 as FA compensation
• Ryan and our F4 pick for St Kilda’s F2 and F3 picks
• Chesser and the St Kilda F3 pick for Carlton’s F2 pick (might need to be our F3 pick though)

Delist - Barnett

Trade in -
• Neale and Starcevich for the Hawthorn R2 and R3 picks we hold
• McVee and Melbourne’s F3 pick for the priority F2 pick that must be traded (alternatively Ah Chee and Brisbane’s F3 pick)

Pick swaps -
• Trade pick 1 and our F2 to Essendon for pick 5 and their F1
• Trade our end of R1 priority pick and our R2 pick to the loser of Gold Coast v Brisbane for their R1 pick

Go to the draft with picks 2,5,15,16 and our R4 pick (assuming Crows beat Hawks)

Draft -
• Pick 2 - Cumming
• Pick 5 - Sharp (assumes Richmond overlook him with their two picks)
• Picks 15 and 16 - Best available
• R4 pick - Banfield (F/S)
• Evans and Williams added to Cat B list

Would leave us with the two additional rookie spots to fill which would be a choice between any two of the following:
• Rookie listing Barnett
• Adding Walley as a Cat B and moving Livingstone to the rookie list or delisting him
• Using the first pick in the rookie draft on a slider or mature aged state league player
• Adding a DFA post draft or leave a spot open to look at a train on option to be added as a SSP

My preference would be to add Walley, keep only one of Barnett/Livingstone and keep a train on spot open - Robertson, Tunstill, Blight, Murdoch, Parfitt, Winder would be some of the options I’d look at

In - Neale, Starcevich, McVee (or Ah Chee), Cumming, Sharp, Pick 15(TBA), Pick 16(TBA), Banfield, Evans, Williams, Walley, SSP(TBA)

We would also hold the following 2026 draft picks:
• 2x R1 - Ours and Essendon’s
• 2x R2 - St Kilda’s and Carlton’s
• 2x R3 - Ours and Melbourne’s

Which gives us four teams to deathride

Yes, I was bored

Would be happy to take Neale but don't think he's coming for a deal similar to Mitchell. He's 32, Mitchell was 34, there's a few more years in the tank. Would pay what it takes in salary, but unless it's a free pick from the AFL, it could be fraught with danger.
A lot of the chatter is about neale wanting to come back to Perth post career due to his wife's family being here .
The lions also would like to open opportunities to their other mids who want more on ball time . Brisbane have both ashcrofts , dunkley , Rayner , Bailey and now Annabelle who all want on ball time .

I would let neale go 1 year early to keep bailey happy so he signs on again

This is great and something like this would be a perfect off-season but have no faith in our front office and will be so upset when they trade pick 2 for 9,19

I assume all the Lachie Neale talk is just big footy nonsense. In the unlikely event that Yeo and Neale played 23 games each we'd get a sweet dead cat bounce.

I would like it normally, but I'm of the opinion this year isn't the year we kick the draft capital down the road with one caveat.

Taking another 7 kids this year makes us very young, I think that would be 28 on the list under 22.

The caveat is having all those picks next year allows us to target A grade 23-26yo talent next trade period. My only thoughts on that is, if we have someone already in the pipeline, surely we should dangle the carrot now.

We need a sweet dead cat bounce. It would have a positive net benefit on roles players, scenario set plays, and winning mentality. Highly motivational for Harley too!

Sign this man up west coast recruiting team.

If you could somehow manufacture 15 and 16 into ports first rounder there’s a big bonus for you.

Mnn..not buying the Lacky Neale rumours. Didn't Fyfe just retire and he was Purple!

Are we being played again!

What would Brisbane likely get for Starcevich if there was no pick dilution issue? End of 1st round?
Hard one to judge because we would be offering overs to get him over the line.

Band 2 (end of first) would be the best guess. Might be so heavily front ended that’s it a band 1. Perryman got band 1 last year .

I reckon we would be telling him he would get his chance to play midfield. Apparently that was what he was looking for and not many clubs would give him that opportunity.

Let’s have an argument over whether a dead cat bounce is a good or bad thing, and even it it really relates to footy, you guys go 1st, I’ll join in later.

There doesn’t seem to be much online re L Neale and him moving back to WA. BF rumour for the moment?

Unless the AFL grant our wish to have the OA compensation pick protected if we take Starcevich, my guess is we will trade for him.

If the AFL give us an end-of-first round pick to trade, would that pick plus Hawthorn’s first (pick 14/15-ish) and the pick we get for Chesser (44-ish) be enough for Neale and Starcevich (given that Brisbane would otherwise get almost nothing for him in a FA scenario)?

So, picks 14, 20, 44 for Neale and Starcevich?

Just a thought, or am I undervaluing the players here?

I think that price is too high.

A promise not to bid on Annable, then 20 and 44 should be more than enough?

Brisbane would lose Starcevich for nothing if he went elsewhere so a late trade with us suits them - and it sounds like the proposed Neale trade would suit both parties and not cost us a great deal.

Edit: I think we'd be able to trade the proposed pick 20 back somewhat and still get the deal done. If we slid back to say 30, 44 and a promise not to bid on Annable that could be enough. BS would be pick 30, LN pick 44, and the no bid-match would be the sweetner.

That would be the case until after Brisbane Gold Coast, have played their last game of footy and then the players will show their cards, just conjecture at this point.
