I just wish our team would keep it simple this year, take what we need. How often do you get to take the first two picks in a draft where you don’t have to hope someone doesn’t take who you want?

Pick 1 Duursma. Put him on the wing and let him run.

Pick 2 Sharp. Straight in the guts and let him facilitate Harley and Hewett.

Trade for the Port pick with GC. I doubt Bombers get band 1 for Draper but even if they do the Port pick will still have one of CDT, Lindsay, Cumming, Schubert, Marsh or Greeves still available.

Trade the pick hopefully for Hawks R1, R2, and Liam Ryan compensation. Tell the Suns with our 3 first round picks no nominations will come from us.

Hopefully land Starcevich via Free agency or perhaps our Rd2 for him and Dev Robertson with a later pick coming back to us to match Banfield or an academy boy if someone nominates them.

Trade Chesser for Hollands and roll the dice.

Take academy boys with cat b and rookie spots and take blight as a delisted free agent. Ofcourse this depends on AFL giving us extra spots but I think they will as it will help our development at WAFL level as well.

If the AFL hands us priority assistance picks even better and even easier to get deals done.

Doubt Neale or Steele are coming and we don’t seem to care about rucks so not sure what else we can achieve here.

Well when you put it like this, it's so, so simple we couldn't possibly F### it up.

Nek Minnit....... hold my beer!

Reid was much, much cleaner with his hands, is a much quicker decision maker and has far better skills. What does Sharp have that will compensate at the next level? Bearing in mind the pace at SANFL level looks too hot for him
I like that you are challenging Sharp as the clear number one for us. Sharp will rely on his strength, tackling and contest work at AFL level. Is it actually going to stand out at AFL level or just be average?
Cumming is still the best midfield prospect in the draft.

Spot on. At the pre-draft Combine Elliot Yeo was:

2nd - Kicking Accuracy
1st - Agility
7th - Running jump
1st - Standing jump (equaled NicNats record)

If Sharp puts up numbers like these I'm sold - seems unlikely.

I think the Yeo comparisons are a little absurd.
What were Tom Liberatore's and Tom Green's numbers?

sullivan robey being spoken of as possibly this years draft bolter on Gettable
This is no surprise given his last two weeks.

Wasn't Oliver as late bolter as well, similar situation in that he moved into the midfield late and made people realise he could be a mid?

I've been told that we're wanting 3 top 10 picks and have our eyes on GC (Port pick)

Unused 2R and 3R will be moved into next year.

Splitting 2 with Essendon could also be on the cards but will be 5 and thier F1

Wasn't told who are targets are, just drafting team desires for capital.
5 and F1 sounds decent if we can get the GC pick for points. 1, 5, 7 and 14 with potentially 2 top 5 picks again next year is a hell of a haul

There is just no way that Essendon are giving up their F1 and pick 5 for one of our first two picks unless we give something else of significant value back. Next years draft has a reported way stronger top end, and they are projecting to be bottom 3 next year.

More Priddis/Matt Rowell in my opinion. Extremely good in the guts, extracting the ball with a quick handball and applying presure around the contest with tackles. Not as slow as Priddis, Not as explosive as Rowell.

The 3 biggest knocks of his game were that he was

One Dimensional. - can only play inside and not effective at hitting scoreboard.
Mature body playing against kids. - has always looked bigger than kids his age.
Improvement/potential. - has he already peaked as he's been bigger, is there further improvement in him?

My rebuttals to the above would be as follows.

One dimensional --- He was criticized as not having an outside game and then proceeds to play both outside and forward during the carnival. Hit the scoreboard regularly and showed that he can play outside if required.

Mature body playing against kids. --- Stepped up and played men in the SANFL and did extremely well. Completely negate the perception he was only dominating because he was playing kids smaller than him.

Improvement/potential. - Some argue his ceiling isn't as high as others but if i had a dollar for every player who has "potential" and doesn't deliver i'd be a rich man. He has shown he can play other positions so not sure what more he can do.

Has led

S.A to the National Championship
Won the Larke Medal for best player of the tournament.
Captain of the Under 18 All Australian Team.

None of those awards mean a hell of a lot in regards to his transition to the AFL but not sure there is any more he could have done to press his case as the best inside midfielder in the draft.

West Coast in 2025 were

18th Contested Possesions
18th total Clearances
17th Centre Clearances
17th Inside 50's
17th total goals

You'd think a hard running, inside midfielder, who is a contested beast, clearance specialist and tackling machine would be a priority.
So hes pretty much Dom Sheed without a laser left foot?

Butler would be a great get, but we'll have to offer him well above his market rate to pry him away from the Hawks.
So what.? Got to do what we got to do. The markets changed. To turn heads you've got to splash the cash. Offer him 4 at 700 with triggers.

If Merrett leaves and Essendon end up with potentially five 1st rounders, we can expect a compelling offer for pick 1.
The Dons cannot let Merrett go without having Pick 1 to sell to fans.

We will take picks 7, 8, 11 for pick 1.

(I expect picks 4, 5, 8 to slide to 7, 8, 11 due to Uwland, Annable, Patterson academy bids).

We get a haul of top end talent, Dons get Duursma and the redemption story for long suffering fans.

Again, I'm happy to pay overs. Didn't say I wasn't.

This is also how we piss off other players when you bring in someone that's no guarantee to be in our best 22 and give them $600-$700k on the basis of very little. Everyone starts looking around going WTF.
Who? Which players that are guaranteed B22 do you think will be underpaid and get pissed off the club is trying to win more games and get the team better?
We either have old blokes like Cripps and Yeo on their last years and contracts, young blokes like Ginbey and Shanahan, who will be very good and have signed shortish extensions and will get their big $ in a few years or middle of the road plodders like Duggan, Cole and pretty much the rest of the list that are on what they signed up for and if they don't like it they can either move on or step up and demand better $ with better performance.

Its a non-issue and I doubt the club will be thinking that way. Any players on our list that are going to be worth good money in the coming years will have their opportunity to show their wares and get a good contract in the next couple of years as they mature.

Dons not going to let him go. Has 2 yrs left on contract.

Next year they will though, knowing they'll get nothing for him the year after.

Ummmm you're calling Dom Sheed a clearance specialist and tackling machine?

Well that's definitely a new take i've near heard before. :tearsofjoy:

No-one on our list would have any right to get pissed at what anyone else is getting paid at the minute. Ginbey is the next one we will have to cough up big to keep. We are 4 years away before we have a cap squeeze. Spend big now

Not saying I would trade down but its logical for sure. Lucky we got a win so we dont have to keep fans happy.

OK, keep it simple, what if the club don't view Sharpe in the top two picks and have CDT in the top two. Do we still go best available or do we take Sharpe as best fit?
What if we get a good offer for pick 2?

I just don't rate Sam Butler as someone that should be getting anywhere near that. Don't think you could guarantee he's best 22 next year or the year after. Have no issue paying if someone is worth it.
