USA MAGA activist Charlie Kirk shot dead during Utah rally

Okay. We've probably had enough of a free for all.

There are still forum and site posting guidelines, and you will abide by them.

A few seem to be of the opinion that now is a good time to have a crack at moderators or moderation. I'd rather like to discourage that impulse so I'm going to make it explicit: a moderator on this forum is a poster like any other, and can share their views and have free use of the forum like any other. If you feel a post breaches the rules report it; attacking a mod for their posting or objecting to a post purely because a moderator said it is grounds for an infraction and some time off.

From here, if you cannot speak civilly, you will not be allowed to participate.

Thanks all.

He might have a paper trail already. Member at a local range etc.

There are literally many ways he could go undetected in terms of this weapon. Maybe it was a hand me down, maybe he took it from his dad's safe, bought it at a gun show, bought the parts from gun shows, online and assembled it himself; got it on the ilicit market or stole it.

All I was pointing out is that for a mission oriented killer even Australian gun laws wouldnt have stopped him from buying a similar type rifle. I think I'll leave it there.
Don't forget 3D Printing!!!!

Imagine being on the gravy train getting a senate wage and your whole existence is focussed on another country's culture wars
It's just a wacko extending our focus on that country to a new extreme. Our major political parties are obsessed with not offending them.

Maybe we have differing standards in terms of whats a pain in the ass all the above applies in VIC except the mandatory number of comp shoots - might be different for pistols. Never been into it and havent checked for a while.

If you're a clean skin its not that hard in VIC. Like I said just takes some time.

6 comp shoots for Competition shooters. Annually. And there is only 1 range in Perth that does handguns comps/ bill drills (other than target pistols).

Number of guns you can own also restricted, and bullet caliber is restricted (no 338 and larger). Also, no tactical accessories and your gun cant 'look' tactical (so no excessive rails, pistol grips etc).

Previously lawful guns became unlawful overnight.

Hunters need a permit from an approved provider (a registered and approved primary producer/ private property owner) and that's proving to be a right pain in the ass as well.

Also, if anyone has taken a Restraining order out on you for any reason in the prior 5 years, you're auto disqualified, as are you for virtually any criminal conviction, sketchy social media posts WAPOL find out about (cooker shit, or highly political shit etc).

Oh, and the medical you also need. If your GP thinks you're a danger to yourself (depression, anxiety) or others (any kind of psycho shit) you're also out.

The above rules (along with complex storage and transit requirements) knock out most people from ever applying to own a firearm (and stop a lot of the wrong sorts of people from ever owning one in the first place).

To contrast the above with how things work in Utah, USA:

Utah's firearm laws are some of the more permissive in the United States. Utah's firearms laws are intended to protect the second amendment rights of its law-abiding citizens, while at the same time ensuring the safety of the general public. A 2013 study ranked Utah the lowest among all 50 states in the category of gun control legislation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_Utah

It's literally among the most permissive State in the USA (and that's saying something).

I can't remember where I saw this but there's some 21 year old ex-MIT genius kid in the US who won a defence contract to build drones for the military. His predictions on drone warfare were absolutely shit scary
I saw one too, and had the darnedest time trying to remember where. Finally found it on a Taiwan news site

US attack drones delivered to military, defense minister says

The first batch of Altius-600M attack drones purchased from the US was delivered to the military on Monday, Minister of National Defense Wellington Koo (顧立雄) said yesterday.

Koo yesterday afternoon met with Palmer Luckey, founder of Anduril Industries, which manufactures the drones, and thanked the company for its swift efforts to enhance the military’s defensive and offensive capabilities, the Ministry of National Defense said in a statement.

This is exactly what is happening on BigFooty. Exactly.

Chief has slowly implemented more and more tools to hook us all. First it was notifications, then it was reacts, then it was spammy notifications for big event threads, then it was thread-rolls. I'm sure there'll be a new type of notification soon.

This site hosts a conspiracy board that allows users to go down a rabbit hole. This site hosts a scandal and rumours board that allows all sorts of made-up shit that we start to believe. This site hosts The Bay where, for a long, long time, we could all go and be quasi misogynistic, racist, anti-gay covered by the notion of "it's only a bit of fun, we're not being serious". Yes, the boards are relatively well moderated, but still...

We see thread after thread all over this site dedicated to umpire bashing, media bashing, AFL bashing where conspiracy after conspiracy is peddled about corruption in AFL circles. We all read this stuff, it gets planted in our minds, then we start to believe it. Every club board is filled with posters who think the umpires/AFL/<insert media figure> is biased against their club; and more people start to believe it.

Is it disingenuous to lump Chief in with Musk, Zuckerberg etc? Of course. But Chief is doing the exact same thing that these power-hungry tech bros are doing. And profiting from it massively. In a way, good on him. I love BigFooty, and most of us who use this site love it, too.

I'm part of the problem. You are part of the problem. We are all part of the problem. But maybe we should reflect on our own misgivings at the same time.

You aren't seriously comparing a tiny footy forum to a whole ass social media platform that is a million times the size with a more advanced apparatus and a whole lot more bots, are you?

Yes big footy is also social media and the same things happen here as elsewhere

Same thing happens at the pub when a group gets together and talks shit either arguing or reinforcing each other

I don't think we're better on here than elsewhere as far as people go, most people on here are on other social media as well so there's a lot of cross pollination

Probably too late for many of the frequent posters here, but this is my favourite take on this whole thing.

The internet isn't real life, people. Take a break from the hate. And don't waste your life getting sucked in by it.

Peace out people, and love to all.

Let's face it, no one here really cares about Charlie Kirk dying, not even the chuds who are suddenly performatively pearl clutching, they only pretend to give a shit insofar as his death is convenient to advance their political agenda. **** all of you, including me, even knew who he was until yesterday

Didn't see any of you care about gun violence and children massacres until today, you called all that "bleeding heart" and "woke". When you people are still riding that wooden moral high horse about any other deaths other than someone on your political spectrum, then maybe we'll take what you say seriously

I'll give Johnny Bananas benefit of the doubt because he's usually respectful and intelligent.

I can't imagine cheering on the death of anyone for speaking their mind. The left baffle me.

Wait, aren't you the guy who was rooting for people dying to COVID in the thousands just so you can go to Bali for a dry root and a happy ending?

I can't imagine wishing thousands to die just so you can go on vacation, the loony right baffle me

It's amazing how they went zero to woke at the speed of a bullet.
Overnight gun violence became a huge problem and we all need to be respectful of others now apparently. Neither were given 2 ****s about before yesterday morning.

Imagine how they're going to cope when the fast food gets the best of daddy trump.

Did he say anything deserving of death?
I don't know, it's a complex question. Does anyone? Some would say no. If we start from the premise that some do, then I would say that I've seen many less deserving people. His preaching strengthened the ability of future school shooters to access firearms and kill more children. He said the murders of those children are "worth it" to enable his ideal world. Therefore, he was an advocate for policies that will directly lead to more child murders. That's abominable. And so it's quite ironic that he died from the same thing he advocated for.

While I earlier thought he deserved it, after mulling over it for a day, I now think he deserved a punch in the face rather than murder. Does that make me sad about his death, or think it was a tragedy? Not in the least. Outside of the impact on his family, American society is a better place without him. Shall we say, it would have been better that he died of natural causes. Then his contribution to enabling future murders of innocents would have still evaporated without potentially leading to further murders.

The same people were pining for COVID to let rip and said **** your grandma actually she had a good life

The death and destruction party suddenly care about human life when the guy who died is one of their propagandist who was also rooting for death and destruction

"Society is better when everyone who disagrees with me dies"

Very fascist viewpoint

If you think political violence is ok, you're probably at the extremist end of the spectrum.

"Society is better when everyone who disagrees with me dies"
Let's look again at what he actually said instead of what you want him to have said.

In Australia they are all feral and only here because some idiots wanted to be able to hunt for venison, much like the idiots that wanted rabbit meat and wanted to hunt foxes for sport.
Im stuck between being a conservationist and being slightly titilated by their escape in wa.

Of course I will take it upon myself to go out and shoot one or two a year to do my bit!!
