“Sharpe” is this years “Curtain” isn’t it?
This is why we can't draft Duursma. Everyone is spelling his name correctly. We have to draft Sharpe and Cummings.

Just out of interest, we dont seem to look at Ireland?

In more recent years we’ve filled our Cat B quota with NGA players so haven’t had the list space to add any Irishmen

Happy for us to continue investing in our Academy. At least until the AFL change the bidding rules again

What hope is there when posters are still rolling out “Hewitt” after he’s been on our list for three years.

And to be fair the last ‘Sharp’ we drafted didn’t go so well. Also kinda looked like Bo Allan’s dodgy doppleganger

Sullivan Robey has that real Bont feel to it. (Bont was a real late riser from memory too)

Late riser. Seems to have an elite mindset from what I can find.
Huge late growth physically. Seems to have a very high ceiling.

I love players that have clean hands and ability to find space. Has good burst too.

Think I have a new favourite.

If we had pick 8 connected to carltank sure.

Pick 1 will be Duursma and I’ll imagine 2 is going to another club for a 1st and future 1st.

If not CDT, which if you think about it we are going to be a hard team to match up on with our size.

Was getting excited by all the Neale talk. Happy for the club to throw the rest of our salary cap at him for the next 2 years, his leadership along with him taking some of the pressure off Harley & Hewett, would be worth every last dollar.

Add a fit Yeo & a motivated Kelly, and things are looking up.

But then reality brings me back down. Neale not interested, Yeo apparently dead, Kelly will be Kelly.

The only constant in the universe is change. WC will not stay shit forever.
Simmo being given the boot was an excellent 1st step, Mini did a good job all things considered, gets to build the off field team around him this year, on-field we will be bring a large amount of talent in the trade and draft periods.
Onwards and upwards.

Everyone could see how Newcombe ripped that game apart and has been one of the best finals players over the last 2 years.

For those who match the Hawks closely and also the u18s how does Sharp and Newcombe compare?

Newcombe more an attacking hard nut rather then the defence midfielder that some think Sharp will be in the afl. What would Newcombe have over Sharp? Speed seem similar, both hands are clean, both hard nuts, Newcombes kicking while not elite is probably above average?

Wasn't it reported that Erasmus was going to the Dogs before he recommitted to the dorkers ?

The concern is that we already missed our first choices in Warner, Cameron etc. We have then pivoted (like the Hawks did so well) to the next tier or two down of Erasmus, Davies etc but they are also starting to dry up as options. There are heaps of guys putting up huge numbers in state leagues who may be gettable like Hustwaite, Tsatas etc but most have question marks and that’s even if they would come to WA.

We are also restricted with FA acquisitions as we can’t risk diluting OA compo. If we can’t at least lure some mature role players then we would be stuck with a bunch of picks in a weak draft, while losing senior players despite not wanting to get younger.

Optimistic that we can land Starcevich and a couple of mature mids, whether that’s one veteran like Steele/Neale and 1-2 fringe 20-24 year olds with upside. Butler would be a good get. Would love a curveball like Walter, Warner or Flanders to come our way but we will know more when more teams drop out of finals.
Yeah Warner was know a fair way out. Cameron later in the season. We seemed to drop of Erasmus by reports and weren’t doing the work required, he mightve already said no to us?

Agreed plan C or even D lever might be being pulled in some circumstances but there will be players out there that can fill some of those holes for the next 2-5-10 years.

Didn’t we get some talent identifier from the Crows in the off-season? Some of the talent we have been linked with have shown some decent signs late in the season, probably unfortunately for our luck the signs were too good so will likely stay. Let’s see how deep and well they can identify the players we need.

As much as he showed a bit in the last couple of games I'd prefer we left McCarthy to distribute off half back, he's the only one back there who can really nail a kick.
Agreed. More dangerous off half-back for now and if Hough and Starcevich end up back there as more lock-downs we will need his dash, especially with Duggo and Cole slowing down.

Robey is an exciting prospect. Lalor comparison is interesting with his power and late rise up the rankings. Will be a real wildcard if he can string a couple more strong games together with more attention. If we split 2 and ended up with Duursma, Sharp and Robey that would bring a good mix of future midfield options while keeping the CDT haters happy.

I mean, not to clutch at straws but it was only reported what he was thinking midway through the year. Things can change, and all the chat about it has only just bubbled to the surface. Could be something still at play, never know

So smooth. Just looks a player and what a rise.

Who was the last player with this sort of rise? Top 5 and not even considered for National Carnival.

Greeves putting on a show too.

Ryan Daniels writes a big long article talking about how we need to get tougher and start being more ruthless at the trade table. And his idea for demonstrating this new found ruthlessness is offering Brisbane Pick 19 for Starcevich. That might be around about or a bit over the market value of Starcevich. But he is out of contract, we have first pick in the PSD and Brisbane probably need to shed somebody to create salary cap space for their new arrivals. We should be trying to get players for LESS than their market value. Not offering up market value as a first offer. And if he won't go along with PSD threats and insists we give market value to Brisbane then we can just walk away. A bit of extra experience in the squad would be good if we can get it on the cheap, but he is not going to change the win/loss tally for us next year or any year thereafter and we should just walk away if we can't get him for a price that suits us. Daniels is an absolute moron.

Did the article begin with a big old word salad that drew a cringeworthy long bow reference or analogy before finally getting to the point? He writes like an absolute dickhead.

I live Greeves, been totally written off on this board. If we can't land Sharp, I'd take him as our inside mid. I think he's mates with Duursma too? Could be wrong
Very close with Duursma, I haven’t been big on Greeves for most of the year but he’s winning over lately, kickings still pretty rough but everything else is coming along.

And yep, I think Greeves potentially being available a bit later on makes it even more unlikely we take Sharp.

It's not the money that we can offer neale . It's a foot in the door to a coaching role in the state he wants to move too .

Freo don't need him as serong and Brayshaw play the same role .

We could use neale both on and off field and he could use us too

We shouldn't need to worry about his kicking too much if we're utilising him correctly. Feed it out to Duursma and watch him go for a run. Options a plenty opening up for us in this draft. I find it hard to see how we could completely **** it up, moreso if we land a third pick inside 10.
