Crows should be fiercely trying to get him in. Desperately need midfield support

Agree they have a loaded list now and are at the point in their rebuild when they can go specific needs and quick fixes.

He would suit their needs well.

It's going to be a very delicate balance getting a trade thats fair to any Victorian Club that might have interest, hard to see him staying in Victoria if he wants a fresh start.

Keep an eye out for Adelaide to enquire.
Tom Morris did say he wouldn’t discount interstate teams.

Trac ain’t coming to Eagles so not sure why that’s even being discussed. It’s more what could that spit out of another club for us to give up the Hawks first ect

We need to be pencilling in band 1 for Draper until proven otherwise. It could be as simple as Essendon going to Brisbane and saying they won't play hardball over Ridley if they guarantee band 1. Essendon would have 5, 6, 7 and 10 if they get band 1 for Draper and Merrett leaves. How many of those picks can we get our hands on?
Hopefully none.

Bombers won’t look to split (and points are irrelevant to them). Not sure why we should trade out of the top tier of players for multiple shots at lower tiers?

If we want a pick in that range we are in the box seat to buy the GC pick.

Petracca turns 30 on January 4 and has a contract worth $1.2-1.3mil until the end of 2029

Aside from that nasty injury last year he’s been pretty durable and played all 23 games this year, albeit for a Victorian side that doesn’t travel a lot

Would he be interested in a move to WA to a club with low prospects of success? Probably not. If Goodwin comes across as a senior assistant would that influence his decision

He’d unquestionably improve our list and would be a good mentor for Harley. Don’t think we’d have any trouble absorbing his contract into our salary cap either

What Melbourne would want in a trade might be influenced by where they see their list. If they think they can still challenge they’d be reluctant to let him go but if they want to what we arguably should’ve done at the end of 2021 then now might be a good time to cash out and free up cap space

I’d gladly handover the Hawthorn R1 pick we hold but doubt that on its own would be enough. If we get an end of R1 priority pick and/or a pick that needs to be traded, one of those might be enough

Petracca for pick 15 and a pick we need to trade, I’d be wrapt with

Isn’t going to happen though

Exactly. Hawks 1st, WC 2nd, Hawks 2nd, draft assistance and Ryan/Chesser compensation means we can trade up, multiple times

No way should we be looking to trade the best player in the draft away

Here's the thing. He will be 30 in January. Still has 3-4 years of good footy in him so Demons won't be trading him unless it's a couple of first coming back.

Blues wont chase him, especially if they lose Curnow.

Pies could but their list is old. Do they really trade away more draft capitol and go into a full rebuild when the Devils come in?

Bombers could bring him in if they lose Merrett but they won't be winning a flag with him. Best to rebuild now.

Geelong. Watch this space but Cats won't offer what Demons will want and if they get Worpel would they really want Tracc too?

Hawks. No way they can get both Merrett and Petracca. They'll choose Merrett and so would i.

North. They aren't trading away draft capitol of a 30 year old mid/fwd. They have plenty, they need KPP. Then again, this is Norf we're talking about.

Richmond. Can't see them giving away first rounders for him. No chance of a flag.

St Kilda. How? no chance unless they push out Steele AND Marshall and even then the money Tracc is on it's highly unlikely.
Paying 3 players over 1.3 mil a year would be the definition of stupidity.

Dogs. Maybe but their midfield is already full. Could put him on the HFF.

Is he prepared to move interstate and west?

We can afford to pay him and can probably afford to trade for him too if we split pick two for a first and future first.

The future first and Hawks pick would be more than enough for him you'd think however i can't see why he'd consider it.
I feel Merritt will stay as essendon like us need players more than picks . Essendon will already have enough picks .

Hawks will trade Carltons first for petracca and maybe something else but petracca still has 1.4mill per year x 4 on his contract so Melbourne should be happy to get that off the books .

Melbourne should then look to bring in Davies or Phillips as cheap inside mid options and hit the draft hard .

Essendon and Melbourne would both be nuts to hang onto either player with the state their lists are in. Both should leave but Hawks can’t afford the two of them.

I just don't feel duursma will stay . If he does it will be like GC and GWS having to pay massive overs to keep him .

Rather manipulate it so we get all of sharpe cumming and shubert together .

We have a reasonable track record with SA boys except for Ebert who was a walking red flag like duursma

Hawks will have pick 10 , end of 1st compo (Worpol) , 30 , F1 and cam makenzie who looks to be moving clubs

2 firsts for 30 year olds just doesn't happen

Essendon will not release their captain and only A Grader for less than 2x1Rs or equivalent.

Petracca might be cheaper provided the club takes his contract $$$.

CMac was a recent pick 7 and probably carries the value of a mid 1R pick, don’t think he’s looking to move though.

Rumours makenzie want more midfield time . Not going to get that with day and possibly petrecca back into that side

Bombers may want #1/Duursma, but is it not for the same reasons that we should want to hold it?

Best player, position of need, athleticism (again suits our needs).

We trade it we quite possibly end up with CDT then the 3rd/4th best mid available (after academy shenanigans).
indeed. with the hand we have it makes no sense to trade down.
taking duursma is a no brainer.

imagine not taking a guy because your scared he turns out good and we may have to pay him. looks like vic media antics are too much for some to handle. harls ptsd i guess.

We would have had an actual seasoned inside mid to take the pressure off Harley .
Neither gross or davis played where Parfitt would have and SSPs are a 1 year contract. Might have even won a couple more games

To what end?

You are describing a sugar hit.

Would have been nice sure. But would it have helped long term?

Lots of eastern states media putting out trade scenarios for Merrett resulting in Essendon getting two high first rounders or two first rounders (with one being high) plus a player. They are not going to get that IMO. It's a forced sale. Essendon can't walk away from the table because they have already said they don't want him back at the club and the other sides know that. I think they will have to take just one first rounder for him and it may not even be top 10.
