I’m pretty strongly of the view that it is a minimum of 50% luck (other half is soft tissue management and whether the player is injury prone).

I apologise for this in advance Tom.

This is ten percent luck Twenty percent skill Fifteen percent concentrated power of will Five percent pleasure Fifty percent pain And a hundred percent reason to remember the name.

Dreadful flashbacks to school assembly hype videos for the rugby team 🤮🤮🤮

Look I had a scholarship,

I was the first in my family to graduate from grade 2. Made it all the way to grade 3.

I think there's a lot of luck involved in the recoveries from ACLs. And if you were injury prone prior to an ACL then it gets a lot worse afterwards

We've been extremely lucky with Cam and Will after their ACLs but the other guys have got a bit more fragile
The way some ACLs are done as well is nothing but pure bad luck. When they're tackled and land funny, knocked in mid air which causes them to land funny or slip while changing to change direction. It is almost purely bad luck that happens because they're playing a really physical game.

I have done my ACL twice. The playing footy, I jumped up to spoil, the sun was in my eyes and I couldn't see where the ground was so landed with my leg straight. That one was a complete calamity because I decided to take a swing at where I thought the ball was, missed the ball but got my opponent square in the jaw. He ended up on the ground out cold, I ended up on the ground grabbing my knee. The umpire had no idea what to do because it would have been a red card offence. Players didn't know whether to remonstrate with me or not. Everyone just stood around not sure what to do.
The second time I tore it was wrestling practice and two guys wrestling on the mat next to me went full speed into the leg I was standing on.

I'm sorry but since I wasn't there I can't help but laugh at the idea of everyone standing around confused while one guy is unconscious and the other writhing around.

From the outside looking in, it 100% would have been. It sucks for me that I did the ACL and it sucks the guy got knocked out but nobody being sure what to do was funny. I looked up at the umpire and all I saw was complete confusion on his face.

Funny how a prominent poster on here who has been absent for a few weeks, which we all do, was adamant that it was BS that Fages said players when he arrived at the club were happier being in rehab than playing…..only for Fages to AGAIN say on Unfiltered that that was the case.

No doubt it’s still BS.

When did he (poster) say that?

A good example of how we use our wings and the importance of Berry

I saw some clips of Marshall and his ability to gut run and create spread from the Wing which was highlighted by someone on Fox Footy. It looks like he is quietly becoming a vital piece of our structure and how we set up.

Very interesting to see how Ollie Dempsey was used and how he took advantage of young Levi in the qualifying final.

I haven't watched the replay, however at the ground it really felt like we just couldn't get it past the half forward line and if we did, it was rushed and without precision.

I initially put this down to the loss of Hipwood and having Day and Gallop not providing a good enough 'get out' option for the bomb kick to a contested situation.

As horse has analysed, Geelong cleverly used their spare behind the ball to create hesitation for the ball carrier which resulted in a turnover and Dempsey getting out the back to create the outnumber going back the other way.

Strangely, I'm feeling a little more reassured with the loss against the Cats given we have been given an early insight into their tactics.

Should we face them in a GF (a big if) I won't be as disheartened by the loss of Eric and would give ourselves a genuine chance to beat them.

Starts this week. Really need to curb Sidebottoms influence

It's hard to keep the setup in the video above and clamp down on a wing but preferably we won't be giving the ball back too often

Also, will be interesting to see if Ah Chee keeps his wing spot

Dempsey cheats forward at all times. This isn't a criticism of him or a suggestion he doesn't work defensively - the Cats high half forwards come up so much that it releases him to stay on the aggressive attacking side.

Makes changeovers really really hard between the back 6 and the wingers.

Marshall is giving me fletcher vibes. I can see why Fagan hasn't been able to drop him since he found his way to the team.

Marshall is the type of player (presently) that you have to be at the game live to assess his performance because of the role he plays.

With his disposal already as good as it is by foot, his ceiling and development is worth persisting with.

I've been a big fan since his first game. If the choice came up for who to start between him and LAshcroft, I would pick Levi as the sub. I'm not saying Marshall is a better all around player, just that his wing role cant be replicated by Levi.

Levi has done a great job on the wing as a guy who isn't a natural winger, but have loved his time on the ball with Lachie out of the team. Marshall on the other hand - reminds me of a young Whitfield on the wing, minus the absolute elite disposal.

Pretty much every game he plays, he's in the top 3 for us (and usually the game) in terms of average speed in defense.
