It's not even Kane's worst

Edit** How the AFL (Gil) demanded that Gov go in the GF parade or he won't be playing instead of getting treatment is nothing short of disgraceful.

Surely he shouldn't have that power - agree, thats a terrible abuse of power at the expense of player welfare

I mean, the guy literally called the immigration Minister to get a waiver for his French nanny when she turned up with the wrong visa and was held up at the airport, I don't think he was all that worried about whether he should or shouldn't be doing a thing...

Sure. But on the other hand, if someone is that banged up they shouldn't have been playing. So within that context, it's not really that unreasonable a request from ****head Gil.

Obviously everything worked out for the best, but still.

I think Nigel Lappin played with a punctured lung in one of the Lions premierships. It's nuts what players will put themselves through.

It's an unreasonable request/order any which way you look at it IMO

There's a $50 000 fine for not turning up to the parade, which the club was willing to pay so Gov could get another couple of hours of treatment.

He was going to play either way, so he should've been allowed the extra treatment.

Gil wasn't concerned about Gov's health, he was only concerned in getting him to go on the parade.

Ya, I think the 'how unfair is this' angle is just part of the 'everyone is against us' narrative that was clearly a (successful) theme in 2018.

For the AFL it would be as simple as, 'having an injured player not feeling well enough to attend a parade and then playing the next day is not a good look for the AFL'. Imagine if it became life threatening after getting knocked around in the GF with the AFL allowing him to play, despite him being a notable and public omission from the parade due to that injury. Zero chance the AFL's lawyers and insurers would have been happy without that fig leaf of deniability.

As an aside, I think that the 'unfair, everyone is against us, we'll show them' attitude that galvanised us in 2018 ultimately metastasised into the malignant 'woe is me, what's the point' version we saw post 2020. Difficult tight rope to walk.

Lappin played with broken ribs. And the only reason we know this was because that dickhead Akermanis told the media during grand final week.

Mate... it's just so good for footy :smallfooty:
I've really loved seeing all finals (bar 1) decided by c.40+ points. And teams get a roll on because you can't put a player behind the play after a goal to stop the momentum. And all free agents want to go to the top 4. So good for footy.

Yeah...but mate...c'mon 2 Prelims at the MCG with free agents queuing up to join the teams taking part in them.
Tell me its not good fEr dA faaaWwwwttTTyy

Yeah. If it's Collingwood v Geelong in the GF, well my front lawn needs weeding.

Heading down south for some school holidays festivities with the family that day, if the above occurs I will be more than happy to concede to the kiddo and listen to the Moana soundtrack on repeat for 3 hours…

So Simmo said pre finals based on the stats of the last 10 premiers, only 2 teams could win the flag - Cats and Lions. He was spot on.
Mick Malthouse predicted before the bounce of the qualifying final between Geelong and Brisbane that these same teams would meet in the big one.

He was also correct.

He also said after that based on finals stats the Hawks would be there with Brisbane
