So I didn't watch the game but just watched the highlights.

I found it interesting that any hack kick fwd from Brissy had their forwards holding front position.
I thought that rather novel, I mean we have for years allowed the opposition to hold the front and take easy marks to repel our attack.

Maybe we could try this moving forward. Maybe the new strategy coach could look at it. Clearly too difficult for Albert Clarkson to work out.

There are certain parts of this game that we can control. If we get smarter we will improve immensely. Imo of course

Makes a difference if your forwards actually work rather than standing there scratching their nuts if it isn't delivered lace out on the ****.

Probably help your defenders too if every forward entry wasn't stamped with priority express upon exit.

Dangerfield at 35 would have been very sore from the previous week. He played like it too they barely put him in the middle. When they did a player was literally blanketing him at every bounce. He pretty much played only one match this yr in the middle for an entire game and that was the Preliminary final.
Brisbane have a deep midfield Cats don’t . Losing Stewart and Cameron getting injured gave them little chance of winning imo.

It also sucks if you select the same type of midfielders that cant transition to flanks and wings.

We are reaping the rewards of this right now and has exposed Rawling for what he is. Only the club cant see it.

Yeah, exactly that. I saw an interview with him, mighta been last week, reckoned as he's gotten older it's harder to back up, takes longer to recover etc .... and I reckon most of us have been there at whatever level we've played. He won them the game last week, but wasn't able to repeat that yesterday .... he'll be right by wednesday :-D Could just play at full forward.

Geelong still need to strengthen the middle.

They have been getting away with it by pushing up their half forwards and getting numbers around the ball. Especially at stoppages. They put a hard tag on McCluggage and it worked for a bit but didn't help their offensive chances. Smith isn't damaging by foot consistently enough and can torch the footy. When he was at the Dogs they desperately tried to mitigate those issues by putting him on a wing but it didn't work.

When they went 1v1 like in the centre clearances, that's where they got exposed. You can develop mature age and state league players in your forward 50 and defensive 50 just fine, but where it matters the most in the middle is where the draft and free agency comes in. Need to build the midfield organically.

Ruck - Darcy Fort
2nd Ruck / tall fwd - a battered big Oscar
Key forwards - Logan Morris and Ty Gallop
Key backs - Harris Andrews, Darcy Gardiner and Ryan Lester

1 a grader amongst 7 talls with big Harris and a bunch of role players. An inside out re-build is definitely the right method as the Lions have just proven.
