Turn it up 'who is better at pick 4'.
That's a genuine question, and from my point of view the crux of the discussion. People who know the draft better than me can answer it. If the answer is there are a number of talls that are projected to be better or there is an elite midfielder who would be worth going for over a tall then it is a bad trade.
If the answer is he is better than any player we would pick there, both on talent and needs then its a good trade.

H, on paper it's shithouse. Absolutely.

I have however completed my AA meetings due to my Koolaid Addiction.

The really pertinent question you need to ask yourself is where the following would go in this draft?

Goad
George
Goater
MWhitlock
WDawson
Cooper
Trembath

We, hate to say it, are reasonably well placed in terms of talent. There's 5 who would be Top ~20 in this draft possibly.

Hold all tickets.

It's true that we can't attract quality players, but this is no excuse for our poor list management. It just means we have to rely on the draft to balance the list and be selective in who we pick up from other clubs. We've done neither. There hasn't been a coherent list management strategy at all during the Rawlings years; just a series of disconnected and often questionable decisions.

Archer's board tenure and some of the decisions he was involved in directly led to this situation

He was "the football guy" on the board and we made shit footy decisions.

It's such a reactionary response from Arch with just an off the cuff suggestion that the AFLPA would knock over in an instant especially at the behest of board member Patrick "What's a conflict of interest?" Dangerfield. Arch is a legend, heart and soul fellow and his on-field exploits were beyond inspiring but this is not his bag.

You'd hope a legend from North with such gravitas would be lobbying for the AFL Commission to ensure there are metrics and KPIs around equalisation to show that the comp has not turned into EPL-lite (too late!) These metrics or KPIs could be reported on annually and inform executive bonuses - that's probably the only chance we have that the term of 'equalisation' won't just remain lipservice or what they ask for when they need a sweetener in their hot beverage.

Whitlock would be the best open pool KPD in this draft. Maybe even the best overall depending on how you see Dean.

We traded pick 4 (which will probably become pick 7 at least after bids) for the best KPD in this draft (+a year of development) and pick 20 (becomes 24 after compo picks). This whole page would be screaming for us to do exactly that if we still had 4. Just like they were for pick 2 last year...

Also note how Richmond are looking to trade out that pick 4 with a view to picks next year.... almost like this draft is as poor as predicted. There will always be gems, but we don't need average sized mids...

Talent there but it's possible none of them make it for various reasons.

LOL. Turn it up Glenn. Stop defending your mate Rawling. After all it was you who decided to bring him in as GM of Football without interviewing any other prospective candidates. At least it ain’t on you that Brain Dead is still at the club. A guy who has a personality of a door knob and couldn’t sell Nutella, or dare I say it, a Snickers, to a Fat Chick. :stern look

With the blame game that goes on here it s beyond my comprehension why Rhys Shaw is left out of the conversation. He set the slash and burn policy and then left!

At the time we had Comben, Logue, Corr, W Dawson, Pink and K Dawson so why did we desperately need another key back? Why? :stern look

Plus we were in the hunt for Aleer amongst other key backs midseason? Why? :stern look

Shit we are back in the “race” for Aleer now even after Rawling announced to the world that we were sticking with our key backs. Why? :stern look

So how many key backs do we need? Or do you finally accept that Brain Dead has no idea how to build a list? :stern look

Any scrotes able to tell me the approximate time brady will do a terrible trade so i can organize something to distract myself?
I can feel it coming in the air tonight...........

To point 1-3: Just because we had those 6 players doesn't mean we like them as those to carry us forward. Logue and Corr are 3rd tall type players who were/are being asked to play as full backs. As of the 2024 draft Chom was a maybe, Pink had not settled in his position, and Dawson was a good VFL player at best. Putting all our eggs in one basket has in part led us to where we are (though mostly horrific decisions around senior players)

To point 4: I'm not defending the full list build - I'm defending this particular move. Plenty of missteps along the way. The margin for error for small clubs is also tiny because we get no assistance from free agency or academies - poor Victorian clubs get the scraps and that's about it, you have to get lucky with a generation player (which for what it's worth I think could be any of Sheeze/McKertcher or FOS, keeping a particular eye on FOS.
