Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Highly unlikely we will chase a big name at the trade table next year.

We won't be trading away our first rounders as we need them for Cody.

A free agent is our best shot to bring in an A grader.
It'll be interesting, given we have 2 x 2027 R1 picks, plus potential to trade a 2028 R1 pick next year...

Our 2x firsts in 2026 are for Cody Walker.

We have 2x firsts in 2027 that we can do, in a majorly compromised draft.
Yep but 2x1sts in 2027 and 1 in 2028 gives us something to work with and that's before the trade period next year where more can be done. It's a good starting point.

And still nothing from the AFL about whether these rule changes are happening next year and what they are.

True Ten, but the Devils must use some of their round 1 picks for established players, so if there’s any Carlton players they’re after who knows what R1 capital we might end up with to chase a top draftee?

This year was our chance, we had the currency to get a deal done.

Unless we trade out players in 2026 or Tassie gets pushed back can’t see us having any chance at Humphrey or Butters.
But why would Humphrey have nominated us over Hawthorn who were keen and had the currency? If he was genuinely up for trade, Hawthorn would have pivoted from Merrett and gotten that deal done. In 12 months who knows where his preference may lie...

If we can add any of butters,Bailey or king as a f/a will be handy

Forget Butters. Port will match any bid, they're not letting him walk for a solitary compensation pick.

Ess are apparently going to offer Bailey a monumental contract so we'll have some tough competition.

I reckon McInerny is a good chance. I know not as appealing as the other two, but would also cost less while still being a good player for us.

We'd have 2 x 2027 first rounders and a 2028 as well we could use to trade.

Already addressed this. Basically, when we've got 26 first rounders and we're chasing an A grader from another team, they will want those picks.

27+ picks will be in compromised drafts.

Factor in as well the strength of 26 draft.

Imagine for argument sake, Harry requests a trade next year... he nominates a club with 2 firsts in 26 draft but they're only willing to give up their 27 firsts... would you take that deal?

If we play our cards right, we should be offering those 27 1sts to Essendon for another 26 first.

On my Carlton private group chat my source (same bloke who told me about E Hollands) has said Humphrey deal agreed. He wont divulge anything else though. He hardly tells me anything and I'm more than prepared to come and put my hand up on here if I am wrong.

Yes, but we can use those picks to trade with Tasmania to get a higher pick. The draft is compromised, but Tasmania have to trade picks as well. In their inaugural 2027 draft (picks 5, 7, 11, and 13) and the fifth pick in both the 2028 and 2029 drafts. We are in a great position to trade with them.

No doubt we're in a great position. But like I said, when you chase other team's top players, you have an obligation to get a trade done. We have 2x 1sts and they will not care we need those for Cody, those will be the demand. We will look like idiots if we don't get the deal done because we won't put our 26 1sts on the table.

Need to be patient, slowly, slowly, we'll build this list into flag contenders. This off season was all about depth + obtaining draft capital.

imo, next year should be about attacking the draft as hard as possible. I think our priority #1 should be to get Sam Walsh to extend and go after another first for next year's draft. There will be clubs that need 27 1sts for academy or F/S bids. I would put our 2x 27 1sts up for grabs to say Essendon for their 26 1st.

We could also go after McInerny as a fa next year too.

Come 2027, that's when we go hard after a big name fa and an established talent at the trade table.

Dean and HOK holding down keys is a concern, apart from that its a balanced team.

**Potentially delisted + Monaghan, Duff,
Big responsibility for a draftee to hold down a KPP in their 1st year. Would prefer to build into the side, and their body in a lesser role and VFL learnings.

Only 193cms too?

Motlop not playing in front of Ainsworth Hayward Moir Williams or FRANK THE TANK.
It’s pretty funny, we are all taking the piss about “Frank the Tank” but in reality the best games Mots has played doesn’t come close to what Frank was doing.
He was ****ing amazing & I for one think he will only get better with a strong side working around him.

It’s no longer a piss take, he is a genuine part of us being better - he’s actually demonstrated ability repeatedly for a block of games.

You put that with Harry leading up hard, Moir, Hayward, Ainsworth, Williams that a seriously dangerous forward line. Everyone of those players has the X factor we want from Mots & are better footballers

I would have liked to do the Buku deal just because we committed to him and obviously had him earmarked, but with that not happening, I do feel like we can still easily 'replace' him, for want of a better word.

Best of a bad situation

Necessary shift in the side. Might be another year of 12-13th but we are building nicely now
Agree with the necessary

disagree with where we end up - not juts because i think we will be better but also because I think some clubs that finsihed higher than us will fall as they have done nothing this trade period - Geelong and Collingwood prime examples I reckon
