Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

good, tell baldy to get it done
If we're doing one of those three for the next 2 years, it's Frost.
If we're doing one as a long term player who will eventually replace Weitering and playing defence alongside HOF and Dean, I'm picking Blight.
If we are going to pick up a couple of key defenders for depth, Phillips and Blight are the ones.

I'm wondering why we're not talking about getting a KPF as depth? Are we going to be hanging our caps on Young as depth and HOK as a forward/ruckman?

What’s entitled is u spouting off crap arguments as u don’t like personality or maybe the fact he left.

Call him a shit bloke, say what u like, that’s your opinion but when u make shit arguments you will face opposition.

Facts don’t lie, especially around a losing coaches record
Voss has a winning record with Carlton. Fact.

Agree with most of what you say here BF- good post. But on the Walsh part.. he's professional enough to know how free agency works. If we get Butters and he thinks that will help us win a premiership then he may stay and not be as concerned about a maxed out contract given he'd be handsomely remunerated anyways. Or.. he spits the dummy and seeks out another team. Who? If it's Geelong.. well they never pay crazy contacts anyway so he wouldn't be getting 2M there.

Contrary to the TDK decision.. not many leave for simply the biggest contract offer. The carrot of success is what drives most of them so long as they are still handsomely paid. Butters would be a costly acquisition for sure in terms of both $ and picks but our team will be primed to bring in a FA after obtaining quality youth across consecutive drafts.

The good teams have players staying on slight unders. So yes it would have to be a buy in from the playing group and they would have to see us on the right path. It's why 2026 is a big year for us to take a step forward in playing style, in wins, and in culture. But regardless of Butters I'm very bullish on the talent we have and what's coming in.

Yep big year coming up - with the new players coming in we can and really need to set up better than we have in particular in the forward half.

Hopefully we have a strong enough season for us to re-sign Voss and new contract for Walsh and that can put us in the running for Butters. I don’t think we can ever over rely on one player (no more Messiahs please) but we have added some very selfless role players this off season and our young defenders are going to have great careers plus we will be adding Walker who could be the best youngster since Harley Reid - so adding a Butters would be very useful and we could be an attractive destination for him. After all playing alongside Walsh, Jagga Smith, Cripps and young Walker - and kicking to a more dynamic forward line would be very attractive.

I agree it will be hard to get enough picks in to satisfy Port plus match Walker but it is doable and worth pursuing.

That all 3 are not good at being head coach, so bad in fact, they were fired because they couldn’t do the job.

All have a win record of less than 45%. All have had losing streaks of 4 or more games in a row per season, as coach of Carlton

Two were never given the opportunity to be head coach again & the third was not the first choice for the job he got.

Given the clear evidence of poor performance, it’s very likely that someone with a deep understanding of the game, would take issue with how they coached.

You think for a minute Jack might have been onto something?
Not referencing Jack solely on this one, but if there is a portion of the players who create dissension and that infiltrates the group then the coach will not succeed.

It takes everyone pulling together to win regardless of talent or effort.

The problem is that we aren't aware of how bad it's been. I reckon the Club would give him a chance if it felt it could.
The talk I've heard was that teammates didn't want to play with him; if that is indeed the case, then he must go. Whatever the case is, I trust the Club to make the right decision, as good a player as he is, I'm more concerned with what is right for the Club. I hope that he gets his life in order, though; that's more important than footy.
But they seem happy to train/run with him?

With Smith and Walker coming through, if we play our cards right, our midfield will be stacked with A grade talent in the years to come.

If we can somehow work our way up this year to get a pick for Robey, we will not even think about Butters come 2029ish.

I still think McInerny is the FA we need to chase next year...
There are 50 blokes I'd 'chase' before McInerny....

(the Swans' guy?)

While ago it was taboo to ask about Elijah.

Now it seems okay.

Can someone more intelligent than me please clarify why the club allowed him to play last few games in 2’s if his papers were stamped.

It’s all very bizarre.

I’ve asked this question multiple times and no one has answered or given their opinion.
You play someone if you want to trade.them

In no way suggesting I’m more intelligent than anyone but once the mental health card is played, everything is off limits.

I find it disappointing that those with genuine mental health conditions are treated with scepticism because others with drug/alcohol/relationship problems fall back onto what has become a “catch all” to avoid scrutiny or dealing with the actual issue.

Elijah telling his story in the Age was odd given the protection racket that surrounded him earlier in the year. I also thought it was quite disingenuous as it was clear the journalist was given the “exclusive” with some boundaries restricting what would be discussed.

All that being said, the club has and continues to have an obligation to support Elijah as a contracted player and a flawed human … no matter his issues. It’s almost impossible
to sack or even punish AFL players for non-football related issues. In the off season Richmond had a footballer involved in an off-field incident which had the potential to kill his victim. Yet the club/afl were happy for him to keep playing … only the courts ultimately providing real punishment.

Playing Elijah in the VFL late in the season gave him a positive opportunity and may have also be an attempt to spark interest from other clubs.

Seemingly none of those actions worked … which goes to show that you can dress mutton up as lamb but when you taste it … it’s still mutton.

This is where I think Boak will bring something in the background. We've got a thread about Mental Toughness, and some have made comments about a good sport psychologist, but I think Boak will be a part of this jigsaw puzzle. I am actually more optimistic than I have been for some time. I'd like to think that on balance, with the outs and ins of players (including players returning from injury) that we'd actually be a better side in 2026

I’ve heard info for years that there was a clique amongst the players - sort if an inner circle and outer circle.

We are never going anywhere if that remains in place which is why I’m a fan of Walsh as captain.

I think you’ve butchered this saying bbb.

Referring to someone as “Mutton dressed as lamb" is used to describe an older person, typically a woman, who dresses in a style that is more suitable for a younger person in a way that is considered unattractive or inappropriate.

Not sure it involves any tasting…:)

The best thing about this off season is that Geelong failed to get Curnow.
Too arrogant to negotiate beyond their mediocre offer, they took their ball and went home.
They then moved on to Marshall - and failed again!
I dunno, is there a drought affecting the farms down Geelong way?

Then we have St Kilda, who were largely talked about as the new "destination" club.
That was before they suddenly realised they'd thrown so much cash and picks into the fan that they couldn't get the deal done that the media had been talking about all season.
Irreparable damage done to the club's reputation there. Future player targets will be extremely wary.

As for us, we've added a player with ticker in Haywood, Ainsworth and Florent who will all be best 23, Chesser who will be an upgrade on our delivery into forward 50, and a smokey in Reidy whose value remains to be seen
Off the field we've added Davies who presents as an extremely professional and knowledgeable person, the highly respected [PLAYERCARD]Travis Boak[/PLAYERCARD], and brought the highly regarded [PLAYERCARD]Josh Fraser[/PLAYERCARD] back to the club to modernise our forward line.
Interestingly though, to my knowledge we still haven't announced a director/head of coaching?
The stars seem aligned for Ken Hinkley there which would then be the perfect set up for Butters.

The do we or don't we add Butters debate can wait for another day.
He would add class to the side but do we risk going down the unbalanced list path again?
From all accounts it seems that Walker may in time be better than the man himself, maybe Smith as well.
We could end up at square one payments wise?

All in all though I'm extremely happy with what we've done.
Even more happy with the fact that Geelong failed twice, 3 times counting the Grand Final, and absolutely mystified as to why the media has rated Geelong as one of the top rating performers of this trade period?
I just can't quite Cotton On to that??????

Big preseason ahead for you, time to invest in the digital binoculars!
It must hurt Charlie Curnow’s ego to hear people refer to the trade package for him as “a big win for Carlton” when the trade package are draft picks (18 year olds) and one player.
