Lot of talk on these pages of how Curnow will work with Amartey and Logan McDonald, but where does Hayden McLean fit in all of this? He's still on our list, right?

If we run 4 talls plus Grundy it will be between him and Ladhams for the second ruck job you would think. In with a chance as he's a better forward and a reasonable ruck.
If we run 3 talls it gets interesting as Amartey would need to ruck. 🤔
Given Amartey's injury history you would imagine he'll be backup.

McLean will be working in the VFL

Still need depth players and can't just play an extra tall cause they are good enough as it will break our structure and mean we have no forward pressure

I feel like McLean, Amarty will be fighting it out for the same spot.
Play the hot hand up forward or preferably one of them takes the opportunity with both hands and makes themselves undroppable.

McLean was dropped early last year and without injuries and suspensions I think he would have stayed in the twos. Not convinced Cox rates him that highly.
Amartey is much more mobile and gets the ball to ground if he doesn't mark it and can chase and tackle.
McLean would be for injury cover as far as I am concerned.

Hope Amartey & Curnow don't get into each others way. Mclean v Ladhams for the 2nd ruck/fwd spot imo.
I'm really torn on it all TBH. I 100% don't think Curnow/McDonald/Amartey and one of Ladham/McLean can all be in the 23. Just my opinion on that.
BUT, I will say I don't like the thought of it being Curnow/McDonald/Amartey with the latter taking up 2nd ruck. Nor McDonald, nor Curnow.
So I wonder if this is where the true McDonald down back theories will start to ramp up. Maybe not as a full time, but starting forward and going back.
And I am 100% against that idea too.

You don't bring in Jai Serong if you plan on playing McDonald down back

We don't need him down back neither should he be down there.

Amartey is okay in the ruck and with King potentially in the side as the "4th" tall and can play as a medium we will be fine if Amartey goes in the ruck for 5 minutes a quarter

The conundrum I have previously posted. No perfect solution.

I should have added to this. If you're using Amartey in the ruck, it's not that he can't do it, it's that he will not last with his injury history. So what is the solution to backup ruck? I just don't see it yet.
Amartey is the right choice in theory. He isn't in reality though. At this point in time it might just be go with that and cross the fingers he can stay healthy.
If the Swans go in with 4 talls in Curnow/McDonald/Amartey and one of Ladhams/McLean IMO they are giving up a pretty significant advantage to who they're going up against.

Logan can go in there for a few mins, might be a benefit getting him near the ball he's good with his disposal etc

King to maybe play the Will Hayward role?

Maybe in 2 or 3 years. I think Bowman would be before him.
King quite different to Hayward too I think. Bowman more similar if that's what we want. In the first instance I suspect Campbell might get that role, albeit that he's not a great mark. Whether we run 4 talls will have a big impact as well. Lots of ifs, buts and maybes.

He has the same problem as Amartey. And coming off his injury its a big risk.

Better than playing McLean who does very little except half stand in the ruck a few mins. Just play Ladhams if you so desperately want a second ruck

Understandable but would you rather McLean in the side and little to no forward pressure or do you want to risk Amartey in the ruck for a better team structure and forward pressure
