What a surprise, no leaks at the club. Wonder who’s left us that use to give stuff to Kane and co.

Three names come to mind.

A bit of an underwhelming CV really, mostly on the football admin side of things. I kid of always liked the guy so no issues with him being a "crows great". Just not a great appointment at face value but he might surprise us.

229 game AFL playing career, 4 seasons under Damien Hardwick as an assistant coach at Richmond, 2 seasons as a senior AFL coach at Essendon, 2 seasons as head of coaching and development at Richmond

Hasn't played a single game of Sheffield Shield cricket.

I like it, he has seen the show at Essendon, been a part of Richmond’s rise and rebuild, should have a fair grasp on what success feels like, successful businessman. Not every new appointment needs to be a Port person or Best in the Business name.

Some reliable, steady, levelled, footy acumen to report back to the board may see us roll

c) experienced in a variety of roles in various AFL clubs
d) a good communicator

Sounds like a good fit for me.

Surely there are better and more highly credentialed people out there.

Im guessing Port only have a small budget for this

This is interesting, lending weight to Dew talking yesterday about strong connections between head office and footy staff.

In 2023, he returned to Richmond to work closely with the coaching group as the head of coaching and development.

He was also involved with Carr in the discussions about the role

“I’m very excited to be joining Port Adelaide Football Club, especially at the beginning of a new era at Alberton,” Rutten said.

“Speaking with Matthew Richardson and Josh Carr about the opportunity, it became clear very quickly that I felt aligned with both the role and the club.

“Starting a new journey, with a new coaching group and plenty of new staff, it’s an exciting opportunity to grow together and build something special.

I really like this appointment. Great footy brain, been in a successful system, knows what not to do after being at Essendon. Good stuff

We definitely seem to have brought in a certain type of football people this year. They're all pretty serious, tough characters, with lots of experience, and lot of that at winning environments.

Their is definitely an alignment with how Josh played the game.

It's refreshing after the year we had, which included the lolly teeth gag during a loss and gods know how many post game press conference jokes after losses.

It's probably understated how unserious we were this year, the quiet quitting wasn't just Ken this year, the GM and assistant coaches were all on the way out well before the season ended.
