Hobbs would just be a list clogger. Clohesy a chance at some upside at least.
List cloggers are not what we are after. But they are ok on the right price. At their age, there is still the chance of upside as well, even if it’s unlikely.

If they are cheaper than Davies, then it’s fine. 1 or 2 year deals will hardly cripple the club and provide mature depth if there is an injury, or VFL bodies while the academy kids grow.

But I imagine it will depend on how many picks we manage to take on draft night, as that may be our priority.

21yo Ted Clohesy also comes with the added benefits of having a brother who is already on our list (great outcome for both of them) and, like Sam, Ted spent multiple years in our junior development pathway at the Cooly Blues + our Northern Rivers regional rep team. Would be a feel good story to see the two brothers run out in our jumper next year after they both participated in our academy as juniors, just like we're going to see with the Uwland brothers next year.

Fox Sports have published there top 50 prospects:

  • Pick 2 Zeke Uwland (2,481 points)
  • Pick 5 Dylan Patterson (1,795 points)
  • Pick 34 Jai Murray (360 points)
  • Pick 36 Beau Addinsall (317 points)
  • Pick 38 Koby Coulson (277 points)

Total Points before Discount = 5,230 points. We get the 10% so we would need 4,707 points.

We really need bids for Annable and Dean to happen before Patterson or Uwland. Then if we have some later picks they should push up with the Sydney, Blues, Pies comprised picks

Surely we will sell off picks 15 and 18 to get more points. Maybe even 24

I’m thinking we would be looking to get Norths picks 25,26 and 46 for 15 and 52, nets us about 300 extra points

I’m also thinking that we know we were going to have to go into deficit if we want all the academy boys, selling off our first next year which would have greatly impacted makes sense as now ( presumably) it will be our 2nd and 3rd rounders that get chewed up and we have banked the Melbourne 2nd which should be immune

So I'm guessing Max Knobel is still on the list for next year then
Seems like it.
Footywire has him OOC in 2026.
Either was given a contract, or was given a 2 year deal in the rookie draft?

I guess Caleb Lewis got an extension too.

Uwland being compared to Gulden because he is 178cm and supposedly a good kick, but watching highlights he looks like a poor kick just like his brother.

I remember Bowes being compared to Simon Black in his draft year and his highlights were just a montage of him kicking floater after floater, and missing every target.

The only thing he had in common with Simon Black was that he was slow.

I hope the only thing Uwland ends up having in common with Gulden isn't that he's short and skinny.

Patterson on the other hand looks as skilled and poised as a junior gets 👑

Am I living in an alternate universe to you? How'd you get here?

Have you watched Zeke play?

Zeke has a superb left foot

While I don’t 100% agree, I do have some concerns that Uwland has been a tad overhyped. Hasn’t had his underage year to prove anything much, unfortunately, yet still sits at number 2.

Hopefully he lives up to the hype, because we need some outside, skillful types.

I'm much more hyped for Patto and the x-factor he can provide. But the knocks on Zekes kicking are baffling. He could potentially be the SUNS best kick from the moment he is drafted IMO.

If it is true that stats don’t lie you are way off the mark.

Only these highlights and a VFL game from this year.

He can barely hit a single kick to his teammate's advantage from what I saw.

Multiple elementary 15 metre kicks that pull up 5 metres short - that's what you see in AFLW.

Multiple floaters which get lucky and hit the target but suggest a similar kicking technique to his brother.

If you are an elite kick as a junior you should be nailing kicks with ease in games like that with the limited amount of pressure compared to what's in AFL games.

When you watch match highlights from Nick Daicos' or Dustin Martin's junior games back in the day, they are shelling peas the whole game 🎯

He was coming back from a pretty lengthy back injury. Hopefully un-interrupted training since then and a pre-season will get him back on track.

The positive is we aren’t relying on draft picks to save our club. They just need to contribute over the next few years and grow into themselves.

Over 50% of 1st round draft picks are busts.

Look at the 2016 draft: Ainsworth, Scrimshaw, Brodie, Bowes.

We essentially got zero in return for 4 top 10 picks.

In fact we ended up having to trade another two 1st round draft picks for clubs to take Brodie and Bowes years later.

Patterson is a sure thing so the draft should be a win, even though Uwland will likely be a bust
