2026/2027 Draft & Trade Periods

Marra looks like he has trimmed down since the trade period already
I thought the same. That's a great sign considering preseason training hasn't even officially begun. If he can strip weight quickly then you'd think there's a good chance he'll be able to get in playing shape by the time opening round rolls around.

Or maybe he sucked his guts in when he saw camera pointed his way and the social media guy did him a favour :moustache:

It’s not how fit he looks to be more about his commitment to the preseason. Needs to be fully committed and attend every session so it’s still a big watch to see how he goes. It’s his last chance so im expecting he will put everything into it

Hopefully we secure all the academy boys, I know most are mids but there is no guarantee that Rowell, Anderson, Touk and Trac will be there in 3 years
There is also Lombard, Rogers, Graham, Davies hoping for middle time. Humphrey is still with us.

Uwland and Patterson have middle ambitions too. Although in 3 years spots will probably open up in defence when Rioli, Noble will be 32.

Yes, some players will probably leave but I expect, unless we get injuries, there will be no or very limited opportunity in the middle for most of them in the next 3 years. Far from ideal sitting in VFL for 3 years. Some could leave after 2 years for more opportunities.

Personally, I would get only 3, Uwland, Patterson plus the best one from the last 3 and instead draft a small forward? Other teams can take risk and develop them. Nothing better than bring ready-made players home.

Archie Hill could be another midfielder next year (played also on wing and in defence), first rounder possiblility.

Looks like the type that just stays fit with minimal prep.
Could still probably kick 30+ goals and create a few more playing exclusively forward.

How good is this video from Zeke! As an 8-year-old he wrote a list of 12 goals he wanted to achieve to become an AFL player and he has two left to tick off. Soon to be one goal left.

What I have to achieve to be an AFL player:
🗹 Make South Coast
🗹 Make State
🗹 Make Suns Academy
🗹 Make Gold Coast Stingrays
🗹 Make level two Suns academy
🗹 Make U15s South Coast
🗹 Make seniors by 16 years old
🗹 Make U16 All Australian team
☐ Make national draft
🗹 Play on a stadium
🗹 Play at the MCG
☐ Win the Brownlow Medal

Uwland 2
Patterson 4
Addinsall 30 in Twomey's recent form guide (not a mock draft). We really just need WC to do us a solid

A bid by WC on Harry Dean before Zeke and Patterson wouldn't go astray

Yeah, that wont be happening.

2 issues.
1. Decent chance that a bid that high wouldn't be matched, and there is no way WCE wants Dean at 2.

2. Carlton is probably looking to trade down with their first rounders, and with WCE apparently looking to trade up in the draft, a deal there would seem quite possible, which would probably also involve a handshake deal for them not to bid on Dean or Ison.

It seems like both witts and Rowell are slightly Nerfed by the new AFL rule changes

Any thoughts?

It looks like we could let go Addinsall if bids come early on him and Murray.

Several rival clubs are big fans of Jai Murray – a composed, smooth-moving player with great endurance and line-breaking ability. The industry view is Murray’s bid range starts at the Western Bulldogs (Pick 14), with Geelong (Pick 19) and Fremantle (Pick 20) also strongly considering calling his name.

Then there’s Beau Addinsall – a reliable and consistent midfielder who stuffed the stats sheet at nearly every level he played at in 2025. Both the Cats and Dockers, again, will consider bidding on the Suns academy midfielder, as will Essendon (if it holds Picks 21, 27 and 30) and North Melbourne (Picks 25 and 26).

Whether the Suns match an Addinsall bid, however, remains a hot talking point among recruiters. Sources believe if Murray and Addinsall received bids in the same first-round range, Gold Coast would more likely match for Murray than Addinsall.

Inside midfielder Koby Coulson, another Suns academy prospect, is also tipped to be taken in the national draft, but looms more as a second night proposition. While Gold Coast will clearly wait to see where the Murray and Addinsall bids come, the club is expected to match for Coulson, according to sources.

Witts certainly as he's never been able to get off the ground. Rowell will adapt fine. Ethan Reid agility might be needed more as the season unfolds.
Rowell will adapt, but he is definitely more of a burst player.
The rest at stoppages definitely helps him.

Witts nerf obviously affects our whole midfield to some degree.

I heard one media person today saying recruiters are considering guys that can run well without rest in the draft based on the updated rules.

Makes sense, Addinsall is a run of the mill mid who doesn't get a look into our 23 for years. Murray could lock a spot on in the wing within 24 months.
And we kinda have to take Coulson right, given his Dad's relationship with the club? He sorta feels like the Suns first FS in a way lol.

Agree it's a shame if we can't take Addinsall, but he would struggle for a game in the next few years anyway. Better for his career probably to go somewhere else.

Id say we get Coulson yeah, I think Addinsall is last on the list of those 5.

I reckon all of them have potential to be 200 gamers but obviously 1-2 will not work out.

I do have a feeling Addinsall might end up being a jet but it's perhaps the right call for us right now and for his development to allow a club needing inside mids to draft him. He's got a long ass road to getting in the 22 at the Suns as shitty as it is to potentially see him thrive elsewhere.

He'd be a good get at the Eagles, Melbourne or dare I say it (**** em) the Crows.
