There's been a new energy to Carlton's start to pre-season according to General Manager of Football Chris Davies.

"We’re really pleased to bring someone of Adam’s experience into the Club. He’s a coach who has a whole heap of experience and is a premiership coach. His role won’t be player-facing, it’ll well and truly be behind the scenes with Michael and the rest of the coaching group. Michael and I have been talking to Adam over the past period of time, and it’s clear that he wants to give something back again. The timing really works well.

For Michael, it’ll be an objective eye and someone who Michael can talk to from time to time to get an objective view of what’s going on here at the footy club. For the broader coaching group, we really want to continue to invest in their development, so we believe having someone like Adam who can help from a coaching perspective with a broader assistant and development coaching group will be another thing that will be fantastic for them.“

I can already sense the hate that will come for poor Simmo via the Jumper Punch boys after a string of losses... "Does anyone know what this bloke does at the club!!? He's a malaka stealing paychecks and is only there so they can fire Voss and have a replacement ready to go"

Reckon this is a solid appointment though. Simpson ran a fantastic system at the Eagles when they were at their best in 2018-2019, hopefully can help Voss oversee something similar.

A senior coach consultant was an absolute necessity, GW and CD would not have unleashed Voss in 2026 otherwise. Michael is lost when it comes to game day tactics, Adam Simpson is a respect coach and as an observer , adviser will add finesse to our coaching panel.

Funny that..sure Simmo was amongst the scribes that were critical of our players not showing composure with ball in hand or upstairs in thinking the game through and their shoddy execution.

He’s a big believer at not being the best in a category but being at the top 3 of tree in multiple categories. Spread the team at being elite and harder to play against.

On paper we now have much improved Coaching group. Looks great

I don’t see the Simpson appointment as a threat to Voss at all

I am so happy with our Development focus. Been such a weakness for years

Key now will be can they work well together and communicate. Need to be on same page and be able to have strong conversations.

Simpson will need to be very strong with Voss. Voss is strong willed and rarely changes opinion. It’s a strength and a weakness.

If we don’t come out Round One with a new game style and focus changes will happen very quickly

In this case, we finished 11th, and have lost a bunch of very good players, and Voss has one year on his contract so ummm.... Righto...

Hopefully Voss embraces him as an equal or a mentor given he is a premiership coach (and player). In this way Simpson can have an effect if he feels Voss is too stubborn when a game plan is not working.
