Kyle took the eye of clubs through the year with his dashing runs from half-back and through the midfield playing with the Allies and the Swans Academy. He could even be the first of the Sydney Academy prospects to attract a bid come draft night. He can mark above his head and moves in a similar way to Giants gun Finn Callaghan when he's dodging through traffic. He tested well at the Combine, too, placing No.1 for the running vertical jump on his left side (98cm) and No.1 on the right side jump too (95cm).

Pretty keen to watch him play, good size on him from the get go which I like so adds some versatility for the coaches to tinker with. Rugby background too so hopefully he brings some good physicality both ways.

So happy about this selection. I really liked his footage. At last, a kid who’s built! His development in such a short period is seriously impressive and 3 combine top ten results, I want that! Rugby league will have toughened this kid for the physical contest and given him the agility to avoid it when it’s the better option. Yes, I’m pxxxxd that the Giants made an early bid but they’re back to the wall with depth. Another Sydney boy who won’t be going home. I just hope I live long enough to see him become another Swans great.

Exciting mystery pick! I can't believe Kyle isn't being more talked up as a bolter. People were making a huge deal about Sullivan Robey bolting. Kyle has come from even further back into the first round.

I have no problem with GWS bid. I don't think it was any more spurious than our bid on Rowston (which is to say I think both clubs were prepared to take the player at the pick and believed it would be a good result). The word was that GWS wasn't the only club interested in Kyle (and maybe that was one reason they traded forward - although I think that was also so they could nab Taylor before North) and so may very well reflect fair value.

Here is what Fox Footy said in their phantom draft:

There’s a chance the Hawks pull the Kyle trigger before the Giants do. The Bulldogs and Cats also will strongly consider bidding on him, while it feels like he won’t get past Fremantle at the latest. While clearly the Swans would like a later Kyle bid than this, all signs point to Sydney matching.

I wonder how the clubs became so sold on Kyle. I personally really like his highlights, and obviously he tested really well at the combine and showed great development in his draft year. But still to be picked so early after playing so little football and not especially dominating at any level he has played is remarkable and based all on upside.

Welcome Harry and I hope you prove to be a 300 gamer and club legend!

Averaged 20 touches in the Coates talent league.

Hard to get a touch of the footy when Patterson, Anable and Carmichael are taking all of the touches at the Allies

Well the allies numbers like you implied are not brilliant, and we didn't match a bid on Carmichael so Kyle needs to be getting at least a somewhat similar output as him.

Rozee and Zak Butters both put up near similar numbers to Harry Kyle across their coates/sanfl u18 and also the National championships and look how they turned out...

Taking a guy on how many touches they gather is poor

Not saying he can't improve, but it is something he needs to work on, and it isn't easy either as both Rohan and Campbell had similiar issues, both high impact players who didn't find the ball enough, and in their cases they never really figured out how to find the ball more. I hope Kyle is not like them in that sense.

Campbell played as a midfielder and averaged 5 less touches per game than Kyle did for the Swans academy.

Maybe stop trying to judge a player on their disposal count

Plenty of guys are drafted that "can't find the footy at junior level" each year. Many of them are premiership players already.

Its so lazy to use that as a sole marking stick for a players ability, like even Jordan De Goey averaged worse at u18 level than Kyle did...
