The discount next year has gone from 20% to 10%There are very simple solutions, that don't solve the problem, at least can minimise the advantage
1. Get rid of the 10% discount. Make it 0%. You get a right to bid. You developed the player. Those are advantages. You don't need an additional points discount. (At the very least a compromise where it's 5% or whatever).
2. Fix the draft points curve. They changed it this year but they didn't make it strong enough imo. I think the decline is too sharp or sharp enough in the top 15 but not sharp enough beyond 25 to 54 being zero (though about 40-45 should be zero in my eyes). Pick 15 you can expect to get a very good player, pick 35 you can't. As it stands, pick 34, 35 and 36 is worth more in draft value index points than pick 15. But in reality, if we're talking actual talent rather than DVI points, no team would actually trade pick 15 for 34, 35, 36. They might for (say) 28, 34 and 35, and that's a meaningful difference.
3. Make the actual matching of bids meaningful to the principle of the draft, that a player is worth one pick, not 2-3. For your first eligible player, you can use the points worth from a maximum of 3 picks. For 2nd and subsequent player, a maximum of 2 picks. You must use a pick within 18 places of the bid. The bidding system effectively "allows" teams to trade 4 picks for 1 player, but in reality, how often to you see a club - even if they have 10 list spots open - "break up" one early draft pick for 3-4 later draft picks? Never. Don't allow it in bidding either, it's unrealistic to how clubs actually operate.
