Keighton has been reselected as a Rookie by Geelong

Welcome back KMF

GO Catters

KMF. Still.with us. Good.

If I remember correctly one Josh Hunt took a little while to get traction. Even unfairly being accused of lacking courage. In the end he was an integral part of a premiership team.
Keighton has the same big attribute [long kicking] and hence opportunity as Josh had.

Good luck .

So......what are they seeing that justifies another chance?
Absolute rocket of a boot. The problem is he can't seem to do anything else.

He's only got two chances IMO. He has to build his tank and become a low possession poor man's Cam Rayner with repeat pressure efforts, or a budget Josh Hunt off half back.

Neither position requires natural high accumulation, and you can play a role having 10-12 touches a game.

The issue is we're stacked for medium forwards (and it's a tough position to justify at times anyway) and value speed, pressure, repeat efforts, and delivery more than anything from our elite fleet of smalls - so he's a fair way back in the queue.

He's got a bit more of a chance as a defender, but outside of Stewart who is an all time great, we prefer our defenders to actually defend rather than just attacking and having a license to give up 3 goals, but setup 7.

He's a big powerful kid with a gift that you can't teach, so he's not a complete write off, but there needs to be a lot of improvements in 2026 to be retained.

He's contracted for next season because we took him in the main draft. You don't want to get rid of contracted players who haven't done anything obviously wrong. It'll give the club a bad reputation.

He's a booming kick and looks like he's going to develop a massive frame. But he doesn't look like he's got great positioning or footy IQ from the little amount we've seen of him. He'd need to step up massively to make the grade and the fact we delisted and re-rookied him suggests we're not confident of that.

Same as Stevens IMO. Has some good attributes but the lack of athleticism is terminal at AFL level. We could cover for Josh Hunt 15 years ago. In the modern quick transition, scores from turnovers game, you wouldn't be able to cover Hunt these days with the frenetic pace of the game.

he was described as a powerful explosive player… does he literally show any of these traits??

I just checked and Wells on draft night described him as strong and big kick, which I think matches his game. I wouldn't say he was explosive.

My hope weeks ago(forlorn and incorrect as it is) was that we rookied Cam Guthrie. The club must see more upside and less risk in KF-M than in CGuthrie.
Imagine 3 sets of brothers in one team.

Cuthrie was done.

They tried resurrecting him for 3 years but couldn't get a pulse.

His time was over.

I haven't seen many better kicks in my time, at any level. Would love to see him get a senior game this year before we consider moving him on for good.

Some people are being very harsh on a kid who has literally only been on the list for one year.

One team or one squad?

Even if Cam was in the list next year, I'm not sure we'd see more than just a single set of brothers in the seniors in 2026

One team photo then. Anyway, was never going to be.
