Why don't we just take Kellaway as a cat B? Still open surely?

Oh FFS - people now acting like "Projected Drafts" mean nothing. Just ignoring they have been used for decades, not just in the AFL. nut the NFL, MBA, MLB, NHL. The people that make them tend to know a lot more about footy than anyone here & that is a clear fact. Cal's projected draft managed to get 20/20 - just not in the same right order. But, he got the first 20 kids to be picked 100% correct. Lucky guesses i assume?

What are you on about? What does Cal Twomey going 20/20 have to do with selecting a player via the rookie draft?

Media projected drafts DO mean absolutely nothing. They are one persons opinion and/or educated guess on what teams could do.

You know what really matters? Where the teams themselves rank players. Do you actually think AFL clubs look at any mock draft in the media and go, ‘oh yeah, we should do that!’ Or, ‘I see Cal had this player ranked 21 so we should change our internal board accordingly’.

All 18 teams passed on Greeves, on NHH, on Kellaway etc. multiple times. Who cares where they were projected to go. Do you think there’s a reason they weren’t selected there?

IF it was a Rookie or Cat B - does it matter? I won't pretend to know all the details of the Cat B, but i thought this as a few people who do know this stuff said he would qualify. Perhaps they were wrong, but either way - we passed on the Standard Rookie spot. Why not actually use that on Louie?

Just admit it RJoKe. You are a dead set mess.

I think not taking Kellaway as a Cat B & Greeves as a Rookie selection was a bad move. I think for all our 1st & 2nd round picks our midfield depth longterm is pretty poor. Still completely reliant on Taranto/Hopper.

The longer i look at our pre-season the more i think it was one of the worst i can remember for us. Club needs to be doing shitloads more to get better after 7/46 wins over the past 2 years under Yze

People saying we are smart as we get to trial the remaining rookies before selecting are laughable. We are now picking with another 25 players off the board, some of which were projected to be late 1st, early 2nd rounders.

Im very concerned at the Yze era. They remind me of "The Process" 76ers who accepted losing as part of their "process" & ended up with a lot of highly talented losers like Simmons, Okafor, Embiid - a lot of very soft players.
Accepting losing, that’s laughable. I would have more trust in our staff that get paid to watch these players and everything else that goes into rating players rather than set fans on Bigfooty that only make judgement by watching highlights or limited games online. We have done well in the draft the last two seasons and takes time to rebuild the list.

Kellaway was the best F/S or NGA player we've had in like 5 years and he still went undrafted!

You gotta laugh.

That's got to be the worst result for any team in the comp surely.

If he was so good, wouldn’t other clubs have taken him too? Let’s see if he gets an invite.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know why we didn't take Kellaway as a Cat A rookie like what Melbourne did with [PLAYERCARD]Jeff white[/PLAYERCARD]'s son?

Also Cal Twomey gets inside info on who the clubs rate and will likely pick - somthing all clubs have a general idea about. Its not like the prick has them properly ranked and is actually geussing where they will go. who gives a **** how many he predicts his job is literally to find out from the clubs and players themselves

You just tick the “Cat B” box on the form. Not that hard.

In the Coates U18 teams they're allowed to have like 3 or 4 kids who are over 18 come back and play another season. Does anyone know if the SANFL U18 teams do as well so Louis can crack in have a big off season and go again?

Shattered he never got selected. Hoping Richo interrogates Pie scoffer on Talking Tigers why they never took Louis when we had spots and told him we would. It's a sad day when Collingwood have more righteousness when they were honest with Mcguane. Very disappointed and angry are the sentiments shared by all my Tiger loving family and mates.

As already mentioned Louis will not be one of the players invited to train with us
Good read into the clubs need for speed in this draft

Why Richmond overlooked father-son prospect Louis Kellaway amid speed focus in draft bonanza

Richmond believes it has quenched its need for speed with a quartet of national draft picks but has told overlooked father-son Louis Kellaway he will not be a contender for its single summer rookie position.

The Tigers believe they have finally rounded out their next generation midfield after securing “combative” South Australian midfielder Sam Cumming and Oakleigh speedster Sam Grlj with picks seven and eight in the national draft.

Richmond added 179cm mid-forward Zane Puecker at pick 31 then fellow South Australian Noah Roberts-Thomson (pick 54) as a genuine small forward who can also put on the afterburners.

The Tigers overlooked Rowville bolter Sullivan Robey to instead secure Grlj, with recruiting boss Rhy Gieschen telling Code Sports that Cumming and Grlj were simply higher up on the club’s draft board.

That pair will add to last year’s draft haul which includes midfielders Sam Lalor, Josh Smillie and Taj Hotton.

Gieschen says that all of the club’s new batch of mids can hit the scoreboard but believes coach [PLAYERCARD]Adem Yze[/PLAYERCARD] also has some serious speed to add to the ball-winning brilliance.

They do complement each other, it’s been a real conscious effort,” he said.

We have (Jacob) Hopper, [PLAYERCARD]Tim Taranto[/PLAYERCARD], (Jack) Ross and (Dion) Prestia who are doing a super job for us at the moment but the plan has been to really bring in that next wave of guys to learn under them and eventually make the midfield their own

“Lalor is a powerful mid forward. He’s unique because he’s classy with ball in hand, Hotton is agile and has speed and can go forward, Smillie is the big bodied 195cm mid who is good at the contest and is a nice kick. We also have (Kane) McAuliffe who has that power, grunt and aggression and then Cumming compliments them. He’s genuinely combative, aggressive and he’s got a defensive mindset. He loves contact and they can all go forward and take a mark and kick a goal and be dangerous one-on-one.

We had a real emphasis on speed. We wanted to add speed to our mix. That balance of speed, power, agility, competitiveness, we felt like we got that with all four boys. It’s something we value highly and to bring in four guys who had that, we felt like we really added to our list.”

[PLAYERCARD]Duncan Kellaway[/PLAYERCARD]’s son Louis put in an impressive campaign for Sturt and South Australia’s Under-18 side but Richmond eventually overlooked him, unsure where he would play in their new-look side in coming years.

“We worked really closely with Louis over three years. He spent time at the club,” Gieschen said.

We feel like our communication through that period and as the draft got closer was really good, we kept him in the loop as to where we sat and we had the option to put him on our rookie list but wanted to keep the option over for SSP or leave it open for the mid-season draft. We decided to do that.

“It’s always a difficult decision but Louey and Duncan were in the loop with what we were doing and it was a tough decision but we felt like we did the right thing by him and the family to communicate.”

The Tigers have invited a handful of players overlooked in both drafts to train with them in coming weeks but will go with youth instead of considering any recycled options.

Kellaway will not be in that mix as the Tigers consider other options.

Makes sense. Exactly what I commented about him as a prospect multiple times. Very hard to say what role he would be able to play at AFL level.

Don't see him being dynamic enough for the midfield/wing and he's not a marking option up forward. I have thought his best bet would be as a defensive stopper in the backline that can play off the back of stoppage.

Hopefully he takes it on the chin, works hard and has a good year in the VFL or SANFL. MSD for someone could be an option.
