As much as I’d love him to succeed, I’m not sure about Liddy by yet.

I don’t see any real tricks or elite straights to his game.

But if he is getting picked instead of Mead then I’m all for it
If his kicking picks up a bit he'll be fine. If he butchers it while also having no real weapon or elite parts of his game he might not last.

Rome could be a very good small defender which people here have been crying out for. Be interesting to see who else gets an invitation.

2 small forwards and 2 midfielders. That's who we should invite for train on.

Quite confident that we have the 2 forward invites sorted based on what I'm hearing, with one of them being Stephenson which is well documented now.

2 midfielders, this has to be 2 with elite kicking skills and ball use. Our midfield lacks this right now. Butters and JHF aside, I can't think of a reliable kick in our midfield.

Can you share with us who the other invitee(s) are?

Whatever happened to baby [PLAYERCARD]Ryan Burton[/PLAYERCARD]?
Looked very promising in his first couple of seasons at Port then went to water.
Hard to nail down what is was but I believe injuries played a big part.
Could hardly bend over at the end of his time with us.

Watkins has a pretty good kick, not sure about Brodie. Rozee goes alright by foot.

Rome is still only 19, reckon he's still got a bit of improvement in him.
If Rome was on our list last year and playing the way he did people would be talking about the potential he offers. Its hilarious some are so against him, despite what he showed as an undrafted 18 year old in the SANFL.

Obviously he's under listing consideration or they wouldnt be having him train out there. Whether they see what he brings as a gap to be filled would be the question. We are probably short on back flankers for the first time in our history given the obsession with listing every small forward available. So he'd have to be a chance.

Personally I cant see what other gap we'd fill. Would've loved a sliding mid in the draft, but with Watkins and Brodie coming in, it feels like that would be ruled out. We wont go rucks, we wont go KP defs or KP fwds, if Stephenson comes on board thats another small forward. You'd think the next slot might well be a small defender.

You are the only person alive that thought Rome had some sort of amazing year in the SANFL it's quite baffling tbh.

Not at all, go back and look through the Port Magpies threads. There is a lot of talk about how well he was going. Equally plenty of talk about the last few games where he trailed off.

Not sure about the midfielders, that was just my thoughts that we should get a midfielder that's good by foot.

I don't want to reveal the other small forward just yet but it's someone from WAFL. He's been invited but unsure if he's accepted yet hence why I don't want to reveal yet.

It's the idiots out there that are laughing at Port. The serious pundits out there would probably have some grudging respect for Port sticking to their guns ... 'The players we had earmarked where gone by our pick, so we passed."

A smart move IMO, it means we can 'keep our powder dry!' All the players left at our pick are still there now, and are still accessible. So why make a pick on the night, just for the sake of it?

Assuming he impresses, we are likely adding Stephenson to the list. Now we can take our time and decide what to do with the other spot.
We probably should have taken someone at pick 45.

History shows between pick 45 and the last pick of the rookie draft there will probably be a couple of 200 gamers and a maybe 10 to 12 who play between 100 and 199 games. This draft wont be much worse than the so called worst couple of drafts of the last 15 years or so.

I would get Wes Walley over for a look, even if West Coast thought he wasn't worth a spot. Bit of [PLAYERCARD]Charlie Cameron[/PLAYERCARD] about him. Not as quick as Charlie but a marking and ground level threat.

Not a fan of Wes Walley, I hear he goes missing a lot.

I'll see myself out.

TIL that Wes Wally is an actual real player and not a Port Board meme
good to see you getting into the spirit of perpetiating the meme with this post. Now people will think he is a legit player. OGC will be devastated when we don't pick him up.
