Reckon his chances of resigning would be less than 10 percent.
We have a cast of thousands coming off contract next year. If he shows genuine progression he might get another year (at least as a rookie), to track his development.

River is more unlikely than likely to make it at this stage. But happy to wait and see how he develops over the pre-season and starts the year in the 2's.

We have a lot of players on the list with uncertain futures. We can only hope River and others are ultra motivated to stick, seize the moment and take the step up. That is key for us next season getting more from our marginal guys so the floor rises, everybody has to work that bit harder to get a game and the gap between our worst and our best reduces.

Top 10 in the 2km time trial and looks in ripping nick

Probably put on the most mass out of anyone then a top 10 2k. Watching him in the VFL a few times his go-to seems to be ability to find his way through traffic. Goes into the big pool of half forwards we have, hopefully a surprise packet for the season.

Could he play midfield? Tank won't be the issue. Even a small defender role could see him find more footy. I think we'd be doing him a disservice to keep him as a small forward.
I wouldn't mind seeing him used across half back or as a small defender in the VFL just to have a look at it.
He looked promising for Vic Country when he could use his foot skills and vision when he pushed up the ground.
He was picking off some nice passes to teammates who didn't have to break stride, so might be something there.
The query would be lack of elite speed to play on the elite small fwds though down back.

He was a great runner when first drafted but then was told to put on size. Now he is learning to run with his extra size. Could be an exciting year in the vfl, maybe a move to the midfield? And possibly a senior debut?

I wouldn't expect it as it's probably a little early. You'd want to see some improvement in his VFL footy.
