Curnow - GONE - I’d rather move on a (leadership group ) player that wants out and has sooky tendencies on field when things aren’t going his way.

Motlop - GONE - with a reported deal on the table. Obviously it’s lowballed to avoid DFA, either the club are looking to trade him or he’s looking for a better deal.

McGovern - GONE - Khamis comes in, Voss saying he wants him to stay, to try and pump up his value. Reports multiple clubs have inquired, hopefully a mini bidding war.

Hollands - GONE - Club forced, enough said

Acres - GONE - Think he’ll be part of the Chesser deal.

If he’s as good of a player as he sounds, why not draft him. We paid a premium for Jagga and we will pay a premium for Cody. Unfortunately, that’s the new price of doing business.

Totally agree...

We need to keep bringing in good citizens and model human beings.

Under no circumstances do we bring in any player that might rub the opposition players or their supporters the wrong way (clearly that includes Paps as all opposition supporters think he's a flog).

We can't afford to be controversial and bring in anyone that might ruin our squeaky-clean list of model AFL players...

Sure yes they are, but we all know what that means if they dont sign by mid season. Just think you either want to stick it out as you love the club, or its a business to you. Weitering and Cripps have always signed early. What does that tell you?

That Weitering and Cripps like signing early... You're labelling a player selfish because he hasn't re-signed with the club and we're still in November.

A player who has struggled with injury for the last 3 years which tanked the immense value he once had on his head...

There's a hidden and obvious scenario lurking with Walsh that I think the club sees, and most supporters don't want to think about for now, but we all know what it is.

We just finished 11th, and our list is PROBABLY worse next year, given the talent we have taken out of the team (including a Coleman medallist, an All-Australian, and a star ruckman) compared with what has come in, and the age of a few other blokes going around.

We've also made some of our competitors in mid-table better (eg: Sydney and ST Kilda).

From a list management perspective we have already begun (for some reason) a hard rebuild, and have replaced 23 players who were on our preliminary final list just two years ago, with even more of the key parts of that squad likely coming to an end in 12 months time.

Best case scenario is the new pieces fit well, the young guys (Smith and Dean) are better than expected, we finish somewhere around 10th, everyone is happy, Walsh resigns, we bring in Walker next year using our own natural pick (around pick 10 and a bit more) and complete the rebuild with Williams, Saad, McGovern, Newman (all out of contract) and a few others moving on, and some more youth and speed coming in, and we genuinely think about competing in 2027.

AT the other end of the scale,you don't have to squint too hard to see a scenario where, say, Weitering, McKay and one of the midfielders gets injured, we crater and drop into the bottom 2-3 teams, and suddenly we're looking Walsh leaving, giving us pick 2 and 3 in a strong draft AND Walker is then available as a F/S at pick 5 or whatever (using Sydney F1 and 2027 pick)

That's the insurance policy right now: if it all goes pear-shaped, we play into 3x top 5 picks in a good draft, to go with Smith, Dean, O'Farrell, Hollands and a few other nice young pieces already in place, and an absolute tonne of salary cap space to go shopping around those players over the following years.

It all aligns with Voss having one year left in his contract too - we'll know more this time next year around that, as well.

Compared to our previous rebuilds we seem to have a bit more going for us now (certainly compared to 2015 and 2002)

I think if we finish bottom 4 and go full rebuild he is 100% gone but see it as unlikely.

I see a middling result. With Voss less then 50/50 to stay.

In that scenario hard to see what he does.

Also, not sure whether Voss staying vs going, helps vs hurts.

It just seems odd that we've lost 2 key forwards over the last few months - as well as TDK who filled in sometimes through necessity, and you could even throw JSOS into the mix who was our third tall up until recently - but didn't bring a single one in through the trade or draft.

HOK is a ruck who we're apparently turning into a forward, Kemp is a 3rd string tall, and we have Harry who has had issues getting onto the park.

Collingwood have been linked to King for a while now, but over the past 2 years have brought in 3 key forwards through the trade and draft, and still have McStay on their books. Conspiracy theorist in me suggests that they're already planning on him not being there, and gone other options....as well as the 'rumour' on the main board that I read a while back that King's a fan of Wright, not so much Collingwood.

As much as we're now potentially going for a smaller more mobile forward half, we still need targets - ie marking options. Which is why we were so much more dangerous when we had Martin up there supporting Harry and the Sydney bloke.

I'm probably way off the mark, but we now have space in the cap, and I can see us going after a quality FA without having to spend draft capital we need for Cody. It just seems a glaring hole in our list that we don't seem to be addressing right now.

Watching the Talor Byrne edits.... what a completely non-Carlton type pick this is. He's just a natural footballer with an un-AFL physique. Yet we picked him anyhow. Something has changed this year for sure. I will assume GW influence but who knows but one thing is for sure he would never have gotten a lookin at Carlton at any time in the past 5-10 years.

For the record - Byrne one of my favourite draftees in the past 5 years. We normally try to draft greyhounds. This guy is a pitbull.

I think it’s as simple as - we didn’t rate the key forwards available in our range. And there’s no point picking up a player to develop and play when we don’t rate them. We have the cattle to fill that spot, even if they aren’t A-grade quality outside of Harry

Do you not notice a difference in this guy from almost all our other draftees? Speaks like a country boy. Has more of a Dane Swan physique. We'd normally go for #1 someone from a private school and #2 someone who could smash a beep test. We normally look at everything other than pure football ability.

I too reckon, one or two quality FA's will be chased next year, unfortunately have a gut feel that [PLAYERCARD]Sam Walsh[/PLAYERCARD] will be moving on, huge offers most certainly have already been offered and given the uncertainty surrounding Voss's tenure and other factors he may well decide to leave.

TDK, CC and JSOS did sfa for the Club in 2025.

Let's not mince words.... aside a few good games from Tom and Jack very early in the season, they delivered negatively on the ground....

I'll take output and effort over talent any day of the week.

Yeah, the blow-in did say that....reckon we take that post with a grain of salt...but I can't see any reason why we'd be sitting on our hands when we now have money in our salary cap, and there's a player who totally fits our needs available as a FA.

We've now set ourselves up with our small and mid sized forwards, but still short of another genuine target to complement that lot. I honestly reckon that the inclusion of King in 2027 along with the players we've already brought in could push us right up there in finals contention - and I'm not just talking about the final 10 bullshit.

At the end of the day I'm just speculating like we all do with future trades, but it just makes sense to me.
