One of the most exciting years to be a Port fan. Hinkley is gone. The Carr has started and he has brought a lot of friends with him.

MIDFIELD

For the first time in ages, there are questions but there are also great possible answers.

Butters - awesome but possibly leaving
Horne-Francis - very good has yet to show his full potential
Bergman - good but has yet to show his full potential. Hopefully his kicking is better
Wines - grizzly vet with great inside game and average outside game. Great Port Club man.
Drew - hopefully returns to form
Brodie - will put pressure on the late rotation
Watkins - backup

WINGS

A tad underwhelming but Hinkley played them horribly and hopefully the wings are off the leash

Burgoyne - I want to see more
Wehr - will he start on the other side
Mead - given chances last year and struggled
Mackinley - has the traits to be a great wingman
Lorenz - had time late last year and was uninspiring
Liddy - backup whatever line he plays on

RUCKS

Our worst position on the ground.

Sweet - reasonable. Holds the fort.
Visentini - it would be nice if he broke out
Soldo - back up. On his last legs.

KEY FORWARDS

Looking really good.

Georgiades - AA squad in a down attacking team year. 7th average for goals. Love it.
Whitlock - excellent foil for Mitch. 200cm. Marks the ball out in front. He brings huge balance to the team because he can play 2nd ruck for a quarter. Has to play.
Lukosius - third tall. Yes, he's soft but he can kick 70 metres. Perfect as the third tall. If I was Carr, I'd be diversifying his play to third tall back and full forward when Mitch is off because one of the best tall forward prospects in a long time in Douglas Cochrane is coming to town.
Lord - backup. Wasn't able to show much form last year. On his last legs.
Moss - developing

MEDIUM FORWARDS

A hodge podge. Good coaching will clear that up. With Moreas being dragged here, I feel Carr wants a lot more production from this line.

Powell-Pepper - super injured but runs hard and bashes hard
Richards - hard worker but needs more polish
Durdin - the talk is he's taking over Rioli's role
Moreas - super hard running to the half forward flank
Berry - waiting for the talent to rise
Byrne-Jones - will he stand up or slide down the list
Cochrane - a point of difference
Barrett - would love to see him come on
Anastasopoulos - backup

KEY BACKS

We won't know what we have until the games start.

Ratugolea - looked like a black and taller [PLAYERCARD]Steven May[/PLAYERCARD] for 6 games last year and rocked my world. What do we have?
Aliir - If Rat plays well then Aliir plays his natural role
Zerk-Thatcher - I think more backup but he's pretty good
Marshall - thrown a lifeline down back with massive concussion issues. Hard watch.
Ramm - the massive question. Lots of intel saying he's our [PLAYERCARD]Harris Andrews[/PLAYERCARD]. What do we have?
Walsh - backup

MEDIUM BACKS

At the moment boring but with possibilities of huge potential so I guess not that boring.

Rozee - his natural position is QB seagull. Nothing wrong with that.
Farrell - we know what we have. Great kick but soft
Jones - possibility under Carr to go up a couple of notches
Sinn - possibility under Carr to go up a couple of notches
Evans - lets get back to the great form we know you have
Lai - huge and quiet potential

I'm super excited.
Most of our top players are under 26.
A new coach.
4th and 5th year players ready to improve.
A lot of 2nd year types ready to improve.
Unknown but hopefully accountable gameplan.
Unknown player movement within the team.
A lot of players vying for positions. Always a good thing.
An easy draw.
Some real talent waiting to join the squad in the next few years.
Can we play an exciting, winning style that keeps Butters? Also Bergman?
Can we nab [PLAYERCARD]Zac Bailey[/PLAYERCARD] off FA?
I won't even mention Nasiah.
What is most exciting. The calmness of Carr. Accelerate the Carr.

I think Rozee is the weak link in the midfield rotation in terms of build though. Yes he's nimble and wouldn't need to be all bulked up but he can't lay a tackle nor withstand
It’s been said before but I’m hoping to see a Cotchin like transformation in mindset and more captain like performances which I think will happen.

Where is Marshall in this plan?

I think one of the good things about Carr is that he's very relaxed but knows what he want which can be related and I think this will help Rozee because Rozee is more relaxed and doesn't have a big personality as well.

Great post but severely missing in Jaidyn Stephenson

Reckon that says more about the Big Footy audience than the reality. You need all body types in a footy team - I agree that we have some smaller players (Burgoyne) but no AFL team has a squad of pure muscle. Butters is a good example of keeping his body in the right proportion to his game, he can stick tackles and break them.
This was a comment about across the teams over the years, on average. Of course there is (and should be) a difference between players with different rows. On average though, we've always been on the smaller size. In some years the reason was clear. 97/98 we had a bunch of kids. Post 2004 Choco went on a 'skinny runner' fetish. We then had a fitness department purchased on Temu from 2008 - 2012. 2013 onwards though, there's been no excuse for being brushed aside / unable to stick tackles, other than a combination of poor training plans by staff, lack of effort and lack of prioritising strength.
