I've been spending a fair bit of time imagining that, yes.Imagine if North Melbourne only have 1 premiership to show for being supremely dominant over the last 3 seasons.
It did kinda feel like there wasn't a single Lion that stood out as best on ground week in week out like we've had in previous yearsCan't understand how Anderson only received 3 votes for the entire season. No Lion voted very well which makes the 3 even more mesmerising for a team that finished second.
Ignoring North Melbourne as an obvious outlier, we had a pretty consistent number of votes as the other contenders - just spread across more players more evenly. It did kinda feel like there wasn't a single Lion that stood out as best on ground week in week out like we've had in previous years
| Total Votes | Number of players polling | Median vote total | |
| Brisbane | 52 | 11 | 3 |
| Melbourne | 54 | 10 | 2.5 |
| Carlton | 39 | 11 | 3 |
Weston-Turner has interest from both Grand Finalists in North Melbourne and Brisbane, though rivals believe the unbeaten Kangas remain firmly in the lead to secure a move for the talented and versatile prospect.
...
Brisbane's gun goalkicker Taylor Smith is also among the star players exploring interest from elsewhere following a strong 18-goal campaign at the Lions, with Sydney now seen as the frontrunners to secure a deal for the key forward if she chooses to leave.
However, Smith – who is a two-time premiership player and an All-Australian – is contracted at Brisbane for 2026 and the Lions have also been locked in negotiations to potentially extend her deal even further across recent weeks.
...
Magpies vice-captain Jordy Allen has attracted interest from Brisbane, although she is contracted through until 2027 making a potential trade complicated
...
The Giants are elsewhere seen as the likeliest landing spot for Lions defender Poppy Boltz
...
The Eagles have also been monitoring a potential move for Lions youngster Sophie Peters
Yeah, GWS most likely apparently.Apparently Boltz is also looking to Bolt?
Each club has 10 train-on players for the season. In other words squads essentially consist of 40 players, but 10 of them don't get paid and can only participate in a limited number of training sessions. What's the go with a few training sessions having random other people training with the W team? I've noticed a few times this season that there'll be people training with the W team who aren't on the team list. Today for example, I'm pretty sure this is former Netballer Gabi Simpson whose played a few QAFLW games in the last two years.
Huh, interesting. Never knew that. Thankyou for the answer. Each club has 10 train-on players for the season. In other words squads essentially consist of 40 players, but 10 of them don't get paid and can only participate in a limited number of training sessions.
If there are enough injuries to the main playing list, a train-on player can be elevated as a temporary replacement.
I've seen plenty of articles on us. I'd have pegged it as equal between the two sides if you take out ant stories about Riddell winning the league B&F.Apparently North Melbourne are playing in a Grand final this weekend. Not sure who there playing though as all the news is about NM
Although tied to Gold Coast via that academy program, Baron's allegiances do lie with its cross-town rival. Having grown up a Brisbane diehard, and as a big [PLAYERCARD]Josh Dunkley[/PLAYERCARD] fan, she has mixed feelings about future QClashes.
"(Playing for Brisbane has) been a childhood dream for me. My nan, she's a real big fan of the Lions and she's backed them for so long," Baron admitted.
"A lot of people know that I go for the Lions, but I'm actually in the Suns Academy and will maybe play for the Suns. It's a bit funny because they're obviously the biggest rival in Queensland."
[Ryan] Davis, who has spent the past two seasons as an assistant with Brisbane's AFLW side under the guidance of head coach Craig Starcevich, told Lions players and staff of his impending move in recent days.
The Crows are understood to have been impressed by Davis' work as a midfield assistant under Starcevich, as well as his previous experiences coaching his own programs at state league level.
Collingwood best and fairest winner Jordyn Allen is also weighing up a move away from the Magpies, despite being contracted to the club until the end of 2027. It’s understood the 25-year-old star defender is open to an interstate move to continue her career, with early links to the Brisbane Lions.
The other key trade headline to follow over the next week is premiership Lions star Taylor Smith, who’s attracting big rival club interest.
Smith has been a mainstay of the successful Brisbane set-up since 2021, kicking the second-most number of goals in club history (67) to go with a premiership and an All-Australian blazer.
Despite being contracted to the Lions for another season, Smith is in the sights of clubs around the AFLW – especially the Sydney Swans, who are looking for a key forward to support star goalkicker Chloe Molloy. While Smith isn’t disgruntled at Brisbane, it’s understood she would sign a significantly more lucrative deal if she moved clubs.
