I suspect they might have more luck getting Bresnehan. She has been involved in more of the promo stuff up to this point too I reckon.
And Mia's in alot of the promotional stuff for North too so that would make sense.

This is a tricky list management time. To steal from the ancient text "Pumping Iron" - the wolf climbing the hill is hungrier than the wolf at the top of the hill.

Adelaide owned the comp until Brisbane usurped them then we took the mantle.

The way North Melbourne has approached AFLW has enabled us to compete with the other clubs who took it seriously (Carlton, Brisbane, Dogs, Crows, Dees) but the richer clubs will improve soon imo. I compare it to Australia's domination of tennis before the global population fully adopted it.

Our current unbeatable aura won't last forever. I'm a little concerned we undervalued our sold "assets" and may have overinvested in retaining a couple of experienced players. But it's only a slight feeling right now, not compelling.

Remember the focus is now on 2026+ projections, not on recognition of a player's 2025 output.
You can see a lot of other teams that are young sides that are developing rapidly that are catching up.
It will be tough for us to keep contending, as I think it will get to a point soon where there could be 8-12 teams that could legitimately win it any year and then some poor developing level draftee terms that look miles off it.

It's a 12 month retention of senior players to try win a third flag.
I don't think that will hinder any rebuild, as if essentially you hold onto Mahony, replace Ariana with KLWT and Torpey is ideally a replacement for Emma King or Kim Rennie as ruck if one retires end of 2026.
Slocombe might be the biggest loss of that group, but we couldn't do much with her OOC and wanting to go home.
The way Riley said "Pies have lined up a deal for Ariana" made me think perhaps she only signed for 1 year with us.
The emergence of AGM I think replaces Martin and we were obviously happy to trade her out.
It sounds like we were looking at bringing in Emily Pease from GWS down back, but it fell through.

At least we can plan with the knowledge of at least three players we might lose (Kearns, Kate & Eilish set to retire) at the end of 2026 and can trade for players or draft players we think will be replacements.
Next years trade period will be the more defining one I think as to how we go about regenerating with those exits.

To be fair Kashy was the face of North until she was out the door.

So assuming we get KLWT with pick 37

What sort of player do we want with pick 48?
Has KLWT even nominated for the draft? I can't see her name in the full list of nominees.

Zero chance if you know her well enough.

More chance of a narcissist apologising!
Yeah, from what I've heard she's about as North as they come.
I'd be flabbergasted if she bolted.

Basically anyone who can get game time on the regular is likely to stay.

Monetarily other clubs are not throwing ridiculous money at players. Meaning the difference of maybe a flag or maybe no flag ever probably tips the scales in our favour a lot.

Regardless where she ends up, Dogs end up with a big fat nothing and this was always going to be the outcome if they wouldn't agree to a deal.

Even if some other club ends up taking her before us, it is going to realistically be with a pick in close proximity to the pick we were offering them. It seems like a silly hill to die on. I am sure they could have got our 2nd round pick plus one or two future third round picks. it would have been worth a lot more than whatever anyone who gets her is going to pay. If she was going to get taken in the top 10 and our offer was miles off then you could understand making a statement.

They’re just saving face to spite their nose
Wouldn’t of been a win for them trading out a pick 1 from 2 seasons back for pick 37

Pease is OOC at the end of 2026 so we go after her again then.

Kearney > Pease (GWS) 2027

Shierlaw > KLWT WB) 2026
Sherrin > Mia King, Bella Eddy, Maybe even try to get Conti for a season or 2 in 2027. l wouldnt mind trying Vikki Wall in the mid but her skills for a midfielder might not be good enough..
E. King > Torpey (Carlton) 2026

I don't think her going into the draft and being taken in the 30s is saving face though. Not only has she devalued a lot in the space of two years, but you also managed to get absolutely nothing, I find that to be even worse.

I wonder where she would have gone if she said that she would be happy to get anywhere, would it be around our pick or would someone have taken her with an earlier pick? I think there is a definite element of the Dogs losing bargaining power given where the preferred choice was but it was either going to be Brisbane or us, neither option would have been a great outcome for them.

I'm thinking a tall defender or tall Utility. These players have Draft Profiles on the Rookie Me Central website.

Most are expected to be drafted before our second pick, but perhaps there is a rough diamond we can turn into a polished gem in there somewhere.

We will find out next week if someone will defy her agent. It would be funny if the Dogs do it to double down on their intransigence.

Dogs only have one pick before ours and it is at 8. I can't see them using a top 10 picks to prove a point.

Gotta love unbiased journalism.
Agree DP….what l find interesting is that he loves to promote a certain …cough …swans …podcast and its players. I have nothing against that, but to post that comment and basically not giving a stuff about the individual it’s aimed at…nah Stuff him time to call out that rubbish.
